So i'm watching the newer Far Cry Instincts stuff (wtf.. Stephen Dorff is jack carver!) and i don't get how this game is set in the Far Cry storyline, or if at all. It seems to have the same characters and is set at the same time, but has a different storyline altogether?

As far as I know its a whole different game, but its sort of a retelling of the plot from the first.

Hanging out with my friend one day he booted this sucker up on his PC and I was stunned by the visuals. He showed me the very beginning where you break out of the prison you're being held in. So he's navigating the typical dark, cramped confines you find in every FPS until he gets to the exit and this explosion of color hits as far as the eye can see. This gorgeous, lush island awaited to be explored. Describing the new elements of the Xbox version to him he thought the game was headed in the wrong direction from what he thought was an excellent game.

Rolling Stone reviewed Far Cry: Instincts, and said it's the newest shooter on the block and that it surpasses even Halo. But that's Rolling Stone, and games isn't exactly their specialty.

Inconsistant would be a good way to describe Far Cry. Some parts of it were nothing short of spectacular (mostly the human focused maps) but whenever you got into mutant heavy levels it went right down the shitter in the worst possible way.

That's funny as Far Cry was originally going to be a dinosaur based shooter back when they first unveiled the Crytek engine.

the engine was originally showcased using dinosaurs on an island. i think the trigens were originally going to be dinosaurs as well, not certain on that

There is...sorta. Its being done by a German team. I dont know if they are ever going to finish it though. They had a multiplayer alpha but the single player hasnt come out yet. Its taking them a looooong time

I'm playing through Farcry for the first time. I agree, the Trigens are lame. But I do like the fact they fight against the human enemies too.

Hang Glider stage was the best so far. Any more areas like this?

Are there really any worthwhile finished mods for games of this gen (Far Cry, Doom 3, Half-Life 2)? I haven't been able to find any, I figure they're just harder to make nowadays.

Truthfully though, I just watched the Xbox HD trailer and the game does look pretty good.

Far Cry was one of the best FPS games to come out since the original Half-Life.

-Graphically, nothing can touch this game.
-The single player is very long. The same cannot be said for other FPS games on the market.
-The monsters did not bother me. If they left out the monsters, people would complain that there was no variety in the enemies.

Does anyone know how well this game sold at retail?

I agree with FirstInHell.. although i didn't finish the game.. I REALLY want to go back and play it. I thought the tri-gen's were freaky.. and added a nice mix to the game..

I literally would spend HOURS on some of the early levels.. re-playing certain parts over and over again.

Although, I had a hack that allowed me to save anywhere...

Did they ever implement that in a patch or something officially? The hack (I believe it was just a game code) was pretty buggy.

Hell, I'd much rather play Doom 3 then this game. Yes, I said I'd rather play Doom 3 then Far Cry.

Well, not exactly. It isn't unreasonable that guards would know where an unmuffled sniper shot came from in such quiet areas. And it was often possible to use this to your advantage.

So yeah, great game ruined by the stupid Trigens. Still worthwhile for the awesome first half.

Game is mostly boring. AI is bad. Story is laughable. Tri-gens are badly designed.

Yeah, right. What a dumb game. I finished it to make sure it didn't get good by the end of it, but the last levels were the worst ones. The one where you start without your weapons is one of the worst levels I've ever seen.

The level directly follwing the hangglider is awesome especially because of the sunset lighting. The level with the tree top high hides was awesome too.
