Favorite head-to-head puzzle game?

I have barely played any, but I can't imagine anything being better than Tetris Attack (or any of its forms). Seriously, my friend and I have been playing that game since elementary school. We're not even that great at the game, but the games just get so intense. Anyone who has played it knows that when you hear that specific trumpet (or whatever) sound, a huge block is about to crash down and own you.
 
The swordfighting puzzle from Puzzle Pirates. It's a direct rip of Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo, but I actually think its a little better.
 
I've only played a few but I enjoyed Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo the most (PSX, Arcade*cough*MAME*cough*, GBA, maybe others...it IS a capcom game)

Tetris Attack is a nice SNES one
 
Tetris Attack rules! I remember I had to walk like 3 miles to some girls house to get it back because she was so addicted to it.

Anyone play Mr. Driller Spirits DS vs. yet, or Zookeeper vs.?
 
Tetris Attack and Tetrinet for life!

It would be really awesome if Tetris Attack was somehow remade for PC LAN play.
 
Another vote for Tetris Attack and Tetrinet. In fact, when considering posting to that dumb "20 best games ever" thread, I was planning on making TA/Panel de Pon my #1. It's just that good!
 
Puyo Puyo!

By far the deepest and most competitive puzzle game in my opinion.

Fever and Sun are the best versions.

Too bad the only Tetris available on this generation's consoles is that horrid Tetris Worlds. I didn't think it was possible to mess up Tetris...

My friends and I played that game more than any other puzzle game back in high school. I can see how you don't like it since it's probably involves less skill than the puyo-games for example. At the same time I find it more fast-paced and chaotic and thus more fun for me.
 
Man, I clicked on this thread all ready to school the foolios who were saying anything in the entire world other than Tetris Attack, the undeniable, empirically proven best competitive puzzle game of all time.

BUT THEN THE THREAD AUTHOR HAD ALREADY CHOSEN IT!!

Way to start this thread out on the right foot - the foot of factual accuracy.

Saying that Super Puzzle Fighter or Puyo Puyo are better than Tetris Attack is like saying that Mortal Kombat: Deception is better than Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution. And you look about as stupid saying it, too.
 
Tetris Attack owns all. It's one of the rare games that gathers my brother, sister (she rarely likes any game enough to get good at it, with this being an exception) and myself to face off against each other. It's awesome, we can play for hours. :)
It was Bust-a-Move before, but since the discovery of Tetris Attack we've never really gone back.
 
Here's something two of my friends put together during college when we were playing Tetris Attack 10+ hours a week, each and every week. Cliff in particular was inhumanly good. He could regularly question-mark chain from a dry stack. I only ever got up to about 8 or 9 dry. But I got really good at garbage chaining; a necessity, when you play in the big leagues.

And yes, we actually used all these terms. It wasn't just being silly -- you can't really understand how to play Tetris Attack and develop your skills properly unless you have the words to describe it.

The key factor that makes Tetris Attack/Panel de Pon so much better than Super Puzzle Fighter and Puyo Puyo is that garbage blocks don't spoil the combos you could be preparing at the moment they are thrown to you.

In other words, when the opponent throws a super-sized garbage block to you in Tetris Attack, you can unleash a conuter-attack to him, even using wisely the garbage bloc he sent to you. On the other hand, when in Puyo Puyo or in SPF the opponent throws you an incredible amount of garbage blocks, it's almost impossible to overcome it and you're almost guaranteed to lose, even if you were preparing a super-attack of your own.

This is why Tetris Attack is the #1 multiplayer puzzle game for me as well.

I've nearly finished all single player Driller DS, but can't find enough DS to play VS.
 
Pokemon Puzzle Challenge, the best puzzle game ever. For those that missed it; this is Tetris attack in 3D!!! SO great! The voices are also sweet, really annoying when you get huge chains going... pika CHU, pika CHU.... etc. etc.

Tetris attack a close second.

Make these on DS DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are better pure puzzle games out there, but for sheer fun with basically any group of people, SPF2T.

Some fans of other games like to say its "cheap," (and, yes, I've played 100+ hours of Puyo and its various incarnations, and basically every other game mentioned here, and yes they're all incredibly fun and brilliant), but I'll put up my 25+ game winning streaks against the engineering/physics kids in my undergrad MU, and my friends up against that claim.

That changed in Puyo Puyo Fever.

With Fever as long as you keep chaining no garbage blocks will drop on you, plus at the same time you build your Fever meter. Trigger Fever and you can completely reverse the attack and send it back. And then complete the combo you originally had planned.

Puyo Puyo Fever is very well balanced indeed.

We played Mr.Driller DS a bit and everyone left the game because I was winning every round :( Zookeeper we have yet to get round to, but I am really keen to play.
 
I can confirm that Tetris Attack, aka Panel De Pon, is, in fact, the absolute best head-to-head puzzle game ever crafted. Nothing else comes close.

BTW, the N64 version is not as good as the SNES original, the GC version in Puzzle Collection or the totally uberawesome GBC version (Pokemon de Panepon).

Zoo Keeper is hella fun BTW, as a simple two-player diversion. It's got nothing on some of the more hardcore games like TA, but it's still very entertaining, and occasionally intense, even.

It's about fucking time someone mentioned Magical Drop in this thread. Sure, it ain't the most technical puzzler around, but for sheer frantic fun it's hard to beat, and the anime tarot theme is a hoot.

Besides Tetris Attack (awesome), Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, Puyo, and Chu Chu Rocket, a favorite multiplayer puzzle game is SNES Wario Woods (a single player version's in Animal Crossing). It's too complicated for its own good, but it's great.

One more vote for Tetris Attack/Panel De Pon! The one vs.-puzzle game to rule them all.

Wow, that would actually get me to buy a DS (or a PSP if they made a version for that). That was always one of my favorite DC games. Though what I'd really like is a full Xbox Live version.

magical drop 3 is the best versus puzzle game i've ever played. so much fun. get the saturn version if you can..

tetris attack is great, too.
 
Hey, so Tetris Attack aka Panel de Pon is on the Japanese Gamecube Puzzle Collection disc?

Does Freeloader allow this import to be played on US Gamecube systems? I really want to get this now.

Well I tried Tetris Attack with 'Hooker' but maybe it was us but we didn't have fun...
So I showed him Wario Woods one of my Single Play fav's too!!!

Magical Drop is a reason to buy a Xbox and mod it.. :lol I have so much fun with all this Mame / Neo Geo games.
 
I have to agree with Tetris Attack, also that game gets crazy during single player.

I'm looking for a good head-to-head puzzle game to play my cousin with over xbox live...any suggestions? Bust a move?
