Pete Parsons out as head of Bungie

Are they a bad studio or are they a badly managed studio?
Oh, hope they fired the pink haired weirdos.

Nothing says it could be both. And the brown finger of Sony is the cherry on the top.
And it wasn't like a difficult choice or anything. Just pick Bungie, make them simply do Destiny 3 or something very closer to Destiny and leave it at it.
But nah let's put full soy force and the social crap we do with their games nowadays, put someone in charge to applaud at any crap they make(even if they didn't made because they stolen stuff) and call it a day. This is the recipe for disaster.
And the reason I want all those projects to fail is because Sony really needs a hard swipe and clean.

Fixing the "stolen" assets in Marathon shouldn't be a problem; all they have to do is use stuff from WipeOut 3 instead. Nobody's gonna notice the difference!

Also, I still think they had to have had a financial incentive to kill off Concord the way they did. Surely if they had that much invested in it, they'd have at least tried something... anything to try and salvage the situation!

Shame we'll probably never know. It just seems odd that Sony pulled the plug after a month, while MS allowed Redfall to limp on for a year.

Honestly I'm pretty certain that Redfall lost MS way more money than Concord cost Sony.

Xbox has Activision for insurance, they also have scary-money backing them up, someone mentioned before that Sony doesn't have that luxury, so brand reputational damage gets taken pretty seriously, it seems.

Yeah, if they start working on it now maybe it will be ready for ps6 pro launch in 2034, which doesn't even sound like a real year.

Bungie is cooked. They wasted way too much time on old and busted Destiny 2.

Maybe secretly they've been somewhat working on a Destiny 3 in pre-production........LOL!

Everything they do leaks, which is another mark of a well run studio.

It's honestly sad. So many top tier studios from the past are just shambling along as zombies. All the talent that made them good is gone.

- Rocksteady
- Bioware
- Bungie
- Obsidian
- Rocksteady
- Konami
- Blizzard

Is it a human sacrifice for the fuck ups?
What a stellar acquisition Bungie turned out to be. It's 3.6B down the drain if Marathon is canceled/flops and the studio continues to implode. They can always turn them into a support studio for Naughty Dog & Insomniac.

Honestly fine with this. Bungie seem inept at handling their own independence, so Sony coming in could yield possible improvement. Not sure it's gonna save Marathon though.

Dude was so close to hitting the heist of the century. One of the video essays mentioned some clause he had in his contract that was gonna pay out BIGLY very soon. I wonder if he hit that milestone of if someone at Sony finally woke up and saw that they very well might have been defrauded of billions.

What reputational damage? The game by all accounts was just mediocre. It actually has a higher Metacritic than Redfall.

The plain fact is that it was just a game that most people felt there was better, cheaper, equivalents to. It wasn't a broken, bug-ridden mess, just a bland hero shooter! Just saying, nothing I've seen indicates to me it that it was exceptionally terrible as a game. That being said the successful hero shooters look pretty shit to me (!)... I'm just not the market for that sort of game.

However it does support my point that it didn't look so egregiously substandard *within that genre* to constitute a thing that was reputationally damaging to the Playstation brand. The problem wasn't that every who played it hated it so vehemently they demanded a refund... most just people looked at it, looked at the price-tag and expected GAAS bullshit, and decided... "Nah. I'll pass."

What I'm getting at is: Yes, it was unpopular. But companies doing unpopular releases usually doesn't result in total shutdown and full refunds in a month!

Man.....when you put it that way geez! That's horrible. I'm glad the Chinese devs are stepping up.

They're done.

Not yet though. Bungie will close when Destiny 2 is eventually sunsetted. No point supporting D2 making them convert to another SIE studio. Just keep it under the Bungie badge.

Marathon will be cancelled soon too.

Give it another year when D2 is on its final legs. But who knows. Maybe they got more DLC packs coming.

But I'd say in 1-2 years tops Bungie is gone. A bunch of people will shift to SIE and rest fired. Timing will depend how long D2 stretches out.

New Sony exec doesn't fuck around when it comes to shutting things down. If marathon is cancelled and bungie is asked to stop making content, so all they got is supporting existing DLC, I can see Sony shutting them down in 6 months.

What happened was Destiny 2 was rocking so well they didn't want to make D3. If they did then D2 would fizzle out, but if they do marathon they could have a 1-2 punch covering two games and two revenue streams.

Fast forward to now and they didn't think D2 would fizzle out so bad and marathon being a stolen asset meh GAAS hardly anyone cared about.

There's always chance they also got D3 in the works they could show people as a trailer, but that game wouldn't come for probably 5 years. And no way Sony brass is waiting that long for results.

AHAHA AHAHHAAAH FINALLY! Get the original boys back Sony and give us Destiny 3, Marathon Trilogy Remake and a new IP. Gawd I hope Parsons gets run over on his way out the building the fucking asshole…

Don't forget Rocksteady.

Good riddance..

I watched this YT doc a while ago that provided some useful insight into Pete's influence at the studio and it's safe to say he probably shouldn't be missed…

i watched it. Tl;dw he was a corporate stooge who repeatedly fucked over his employees and lost all of Bungie's top talent because it.
