Favourite gaming moment...

Whenever I get home from the game store and open a Nintendo product for the first time, I just want to drop down on my knees and thank God that such a great entertainment company even exists.

Thank you Nintendo!

Seeing a real Zelda game shon off at Spaceworld 2001. Made me care about zelda again after giving up hope because of Craparina of Wasted Time.

Sadly, that's been wiped out with twilight pricess, and mario platformers still suck since Mario 64 killed the franchise.

Seeing Mario64 videos at my local video game store for the first time. Holy shit.

Or basically any evenly matched round in Mark of the Wolves.

Equipping the cardboard box in MGS. After that I knew the game was going to be awesome.

or counting down the days until Resident Evil 2 was released.

Okay, it's not a very good game, but it's a great moment.

In Second Sight, a short way into the story, the protagonist first manifests his telekinesis powers, when he accidentally kills a guard that's trying to stop him from escaping. If you go over to his terminal, you see his IM conversation with his girlfriend, chatting about inane things. Thing is, it's still open, so her IMs get increasingly more desperate as there's no answer.

That was chilling.

For reals?

Me - killing the last boss in arcade Super Contra for the first time. It was actually wicked easy, but I got chills.

Walking outside that snow level in Halo where a full on battle was being waged. 2nd landing on the beach to a full battle in the same game.

Thank you, Microsoft! :lol

When I got out of the garden for the first time in FFVIII. That game was my third or so RPG and I was pleasantly surprised

While it's hardly my fav FF, I would have to say the opening of FFVII. Seeing it recreated just brought back all the memories.

Eh, there are many: Booting up A Link to the Past for the first time, finding the extra life in level 1-2 of Super Mario Bros. before my brother (seven years older than I), Ganandorf tranforming into Ganon in OoT, watching Cyborg Ninja fighting Metal Gear Rex in Metal Gear Solid, "fighting" yourself and becoming a Paladin in FF2 (US). There are far too many moments that I can think of that I've enjoyed greatly over the years. I sound like a friggin old man!

Double Dragon: When you're fighting the end boss and the theme starts playing. I was so pumped up when that happened I didn't know what to do except mash the buttons furiously.

FFVII: When Sephiroth uses the big honking meteor attack on your party. All I could feel was hopelessness as that frickin' animation went on. I kept thinking, "Oh, this isn't good."

Chrono Trigger: When Frog gets the Masamune. The music and the dialogue was just awesome.

Rival Schools Arcade: Playing that for the first time and doing those insane team moves had me laughing my ass off for days afterwards.

1. playing Mario 64 the first time.. had never seen texture filtering before.. thought it looked raytraced

2. playing the newly released Quake 1 over LAN the first time.. totally amazing experience

The beginning of FF VIII. Not only had I not played many RPG's before (only ones being Pokémon games I think), but I also never played a game that was anywhere near that epic before. The opening movie was amazing, I really didn't expect anything like that, and also the way you're introduced in the game and story was very nice and well done (which is the case in most modern FF's actually). Some gameplay elements were confusing though, but that didn't ruin that first experience.

Last week I was giving Metroid Prime another chance, I didn't like it when I bought it because I was expecting a linear first person shooter. So I put it down for a year or so. Anyway, I picked it up again last week, played for some hours and all of a sudden I was like "so THIS is what Metroid's all about!" and from truly disliking the game I changed to truly loving the game in that instant.

The whole endgame sequence of FF4 - Golbez and FuSoYa casting all these crazy spells on Zemus, to Zemus striking you down, to all your friends offering you their power to revive you, to the awesome battle with the awesome looking Zeromus, to that long ass epic ending where you see what happens to everyone.

come on guys this thread needs more ocarina of time.

awesome awesome game. has plenty of them "favorite gaming moments" in it.

Water temple OoT. Specifiaclly the reflective room at the end of the temple. I was in awe when I got there and just stared at the screen for a good while.

There, there's some more OoT.

One of the most lasting moments was the Opera Scene in Final Fantasy VI. If only topped by the scene where Celes throws herself off the Cliff.

God, it was literally a life changing game. After that I knew that I woudl spend the rest of my life playing games and being a part in making games. Bar none my favorite game of all time.

Back when I played OoT for the first and decided the game sucked and I quit inside that stupid tree. Not playing that game again for another 4+ years was a great decision. And I regret forcing myself to play through it just to shut up those stupid DDF haters who said I never got to the good part. Turnng it off was the good parts.

So glad to have you back. If you'll excuse me, I'll just be smashing my face against the wall with an industrial strength meat tenderizer.

:)

when i played oot and mario 64 for the first time on my n64. nintendo needs to remake these for next gen!

First time I actually pulled a Dragon Punch off ON COMMAND and knocked a rolling Blanka out of the sky ranks pretty high.

Mario 64, playing first time, jumping towards a tree on a lark and HOLY FUCK I CAN CLIMB THE TREES!!

May 11th,1995. I was in my mall buying some shoes for my P.E. class when I passed by a Software Etc. and saw Panzer Dragoon on a tv screen. I walked in there and saw like 20-30 Saturn boxes stacked, with a sign saying that they would be for sale later in the week. I was then told that another Software Etc. was to sell them that very day. By the end of that day I had a shiny SEGA SATURN,Daytona U.S.A.Virtua Fighter,ClockWork Knight, and Panzer Dragoon, all to play at home. Now maybe it was foolish to buy it for as much as I did,but looking back now it was one of the best gaming moments for me. I still get shivers thinking about playing those games for months on end at that time. Damn I miss those days,SEGA were untouchable in the gaming departnment. Panzer Dragoon was fucking amazing. Its difficulty was a bitch at times but it was so involving that you just kept plying again and again while the music, art, and story pulled you into that next chapter. Daytona, for even being a mess was still fun to the core, and that music that played along side it was somethin else:) Clock WorkKnight and its scaling 2D backgrounds and quirky little world was also very fun. Virtua Fighter I had always played within the local PlayLand arcade in my area, having this game at home was classic. To this very day Sarrah Bryant's stage along with her theme music playing are pretty much Sega Fanatical defining moments for me. Damn I miss those days.

for me, finding that warp zone in super mario bros on world 1-2 totally by accident. Friend started yellin at me for goin up there, and then I was like, "well, would ya look at that, bitch!"

One Easter when I was a kid, I woke up bright and early just to dive into my easter candy when noticed a little game called "Metroid". I never heard of it before but was thrilled that I had a new game for my Nintendo. That night(when I was suppose to be sleeping), I snuck out of bed, closed my bedroom door and powered up the game on my little 12" color tv. I remember being immediately drawn to the eery music of the title screen and being sucked right into the experience. I stayed up all night playing that damn game. God I loved Metroid!!! Anyway, I'll never forget that night. It almost brings a little tear to my eye when I think about it.

=_)

I have a few...I'll rank these by game.

#1-Soul Reaver 2- This moment will probably never be topped for me

[Thus joined, the twinned Reavers turn on Raziel - with the blade still bound
to his hand, Raziel is dragged helplessly as the Reaver exerts its own will.
Raziel struggles, but is powerless to resist the blades as they turn
inexorably toward him.]

Raziel V.O. (a horrible epiphany):
With all other foes exhausted, the conjoined blades turned themselves on me.
And I realized, finally, why I had sensed nothing when Janos offered me the
blade. The Reaver was never forged to be a soul-stealing weapon...

[The Reaver plunges toward Raziel and impales him. His eyes widen in agony,
despair and recognition.]

Raziel V.O.:
... the ravenous, soul-devouring entity trapped in the blade was - and always
had been - me.

Taken from the SR2 game script at gamefaqs

#2. Final Fantasy 7
______#1. The shot of Sephiroth standing in the flames outside of that mansion in Neibelheim(i think that's where it was...and how it's spelled, something like that). I loved that part because it looked so dramatic and cinematic in a way I'd never seen in a game before.
______#2. The car chase leaving Midgar. That was just fun.

#3. Chrono Cross
______#1.
The part where you fight a friend of Chrono's dad's. Can't remember his name. I found that part quite moving.
______#2. The rest of the game. I absolutely loved that game, even though most disagreed with me.

#4. Metroid Prime - The Phendrana Drifts. All of it. One of the most amazing areas in any FPS/FPA ever.

#5. Project Gotham 2 -
______#1. Finally getting that Cerbera Speed 12. Seemingly months of effort finally paying off.
______#-1. Realising the car was a peice of shit and impossible to keep on the track.

#6. God of War. There is a part in the cliffs of madness where you swim through this tunnel to reach a secret spot with a few red chests. It's a circular waterfall looking thing, that has a few waterfalls pouring into it. You can see quite far into the distance of the cavern as well. It's absolutely incredibly beautiful. Probably the nicest looking area I've ever seen in a game. Too bad the rest of the game wasn't as good.

#7. Super Metroid. Booting it up for the first time. I don't think I'd ever been so excited about a videogame.

That's enough I think. The Soul Reaver 2 part stands far and above everything else though. That was, without question, the single greatest plot revelation in the history of gaming, imo.

hehe that's sounds kinda creepy for some reason.

Super Metroid. After you push that 5 eyed dragon thing into the lava, his skin melts off and all you can see is his skeleton. Jump forward a few seconds, the skeleton busts out of a wall and scares the shit out of me. The thing just ended up falling apart in front of poor old Samus, but boy-o-boy, was I ever happy.

Far too many to list but I will name the first ones that come to my mind.

Booting up OoT for the first time and just watching the title screen. Link riding on Epona and the LoZ theme started playing. Going to be engrained in my memory for as long as I live. Then, actually starting a game and after you leave your house, the camera pans over Kokiri village. It just left my mouth gaping in awe.

Playing MGS for the first time. When your reach the elevator and he starts to strip off the diving gear and the title pops up as the elevator ascends. It felt so perfect that I could tell the rest of the game was going to feel just as cinematic if not more.

When I truly mastered Ryu and Ken in Street Fighter Two. I knew I had done this when I could pull of the reverse spin kick in mid-air with practiced ease.

My first RPG, Phantasy Star. The came kicked my ass until I figured out that I had to kill the lesser monsters and build up my character before venturing forth. After a few hours, I was able to slaughter the weak enemies with no problem at all. Absolutely excellent feeling of strength. Then I entered Medusa's Cave and got smacked down again. :lol

When ever I think of an awesome gaming moment for me, it always comes back to beating Mario Bros 3

I tried and tried and could never do it. Finally, one day I beat the game, and as I do, my body starts shaking; everything started to become blurry, I was so damn happy to have beaten the game. I ran to my mom to tell her I beat the game, my world slowly becoming a big blur. When I finally got to her, the second I said "I beat Mario!" I hit the floor convulsing.

I don't know how I can top going into shock from sheer joy.
