FBI Told Orlando Shooter's Wife Not to Tell US Media He Was Gay

In an interview with Brazilian TV, the ex-wife of Omar Mateen claimed the U.S. agency told her to keep quiet about his homosexuality.

The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation told the former wife of the Orlando shooter Omar Mateen, Sitora Yusufiy, not to speak of his homosexuality or the fact that she, his family and others believed he was gay
, Yusufiy’s current fiance, Marco Dias, told a Brazilian TV channel in an interview.

Dias told the Brazilian television station SBT Brazil Tuesday that Yusufiy believed Mateen was gay and that his father called him gay several times in front of her. However, “the FBI asked her not to tell this to the American media.”

Since the attack, Mateen has been dubbed an “Islamic terrorist” by politicians, senior officials and commentators in the U.S. following reports he had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group.

However, the idea that he could have been a closet-homosexual indicates that the Orlando shooting might have been a deeply felt and personal act of hate.

The FBI and law enforcement in the United States have so far been pursuing the “Islamist terrorism” angle and their alleged demand from Mateen’s ex-wife to keep mum about his homosexuality suggests they want to downplay the personal and self-hating nature of the attack in favor of the Islamic terrorism-related one.

Since his attack on the Pulse gay nightclub in Orlando, the developing narrative surrounding Mateen’s life is that of a troubled human being who had a history of domestic violence, a struggle with his sexual orientation, as well as an inclination toward a radical version of Islam.

However, in addition to recently pledging allegiance to the Islamic State group, Mateen had previously shown support for both al-Qaida and Hezbollah, who have radically different interpretations of Islam and are in fact bitter enemies.

This suggests Mateen had an extremely shallow and confused understanding of Islam as he failed to comprehend the social and political differences between the diferent groups. Hezbollah are currently fighting against the Islamic State and other radical Sunni groups in Syria.

Furthermore, Yusufiy has told the media that her ex-husband started to emotionally and physically abuse her just months into their marriage. She said he exploded in anger and often beat her while also keeping her hostage, which led her family to “literally rescue” her from the abusive relationship and Mateen’s mental instability.

To add to this a former male classmate of Mateen said he had been asked out romantically by the mass shooter, who was reported to be a regular at the Pulse nightclub, having visited it more than a dozen times over the years.

Reports also suggest the attacker used several gay dating apps and communicated with several users. Kevin West, a regular at Pulse, told the Los Angeles Times he had exchanged messages with Mateen on an app.

And now, it seems the overwhelming reports and testimonies pointing to Mateen’s personal motives are forcing the FBI to pursue a different angle.

On Wednesday gay dating apps Jack’d and Grindr said they had been contacted by the FBI as part of the Orlando shooting investigation. They also said they could not provide information on whether Mateen had profiles on those sites as such details are now part of a classified investigation.

A spokesman for dating app Grindr also indicated they have been contacted by authorities. In response to an inquiry from BuzzFeed News, the company announced: “We will continue to cooperate with the authorities and do not comment on ongoing investigations.”

Similar attacks by troubled white men in the U.S. against minorities are rarely referred to as terror attacks by either law enforcement agencies or the media, which points to a troubling trend that links the label terror to non-white Muslim attackers only.

So it's possible he just had incredibly deep-seated issues about his own sexuality, and lashed out at the community he tried to be a part of?

I can see that...just having a bad moment where you're trying to fit in, and then in a fit of rage planning this and making sure you pledge allegiance to ISIS just for that whammy of 'fuck you'.

What an awful situation.

Uh thread title is reaching. She alleged they told her this and it was discussed in the other threads. There's no info to back this supposed FBI order up and she didn't say she knew he was gay or not, she was asked and now considers it possible.

This is completely contradictory to both her early CNN interviews where she acknowledged he might have been gay and early FBI acknowledgment that he had been to the club frequently and may have used gay dating apps.

And further the FBI also acknowledged his bizarre shallow understanding of Islam including the Hezbollah part.

Literally a loosely threaded garbage conspiracy theory that only majors sense of you ignore everything they said or did till yesterday.

I knew there was more to this guys old man. He looked shady as fuck in interviews. Probably because he shamed his son for so long which inevitably pushed him to perform that horrible murder to some extent.

dave is ok

aztek is ok
Why would they tell her this and they release information about him having the 'Jacked' app on his phone and shit themselves?

This is a pretty flimsy conspiracy.

The FBI must be a terribly run organization because they acknowledged themselves they were investigating it. I mean what are we supposed to believe that the FBI wanted to use this guy an example of an ISIS agent? Whether or not he was gay or not doesn't change the fact that he was a terrorist.

Wait, I thought the conspiracy was Obama unwilling to admit this was an international Radical Islam terrorist plot directly supported by ISIS.

Fucking TELESUR? Do you even know what Telesur is? It's the VENEZUELAN REGIME PROPAGANDA CHANNEL, it's Maduro's RT. Of course their narrative would end in those shady imperialists.

It's getting hard to believe that these events only happened 5 days ago. Feels like a year or more with how many media cycles we've already gone through this week.

Hell, even if true it's probably more along the lines of "we don't want the media running with this if there's nothing to it" versus "we need to frame this as a terrorist attack so stay quiet about him being gay."

I am so confused.

I was just told Obama was responsible for all of this. Previously I incorrectly blamed the shooter.

Is telesurv telling me that the gays are now responsible?

LOL

The FBI confirmed they we're looking into this.

This is south american leftist propaganda hoping that a few useful idiots in the US will latch on to this nonsense that the FBI is trying to intentionally hype up muslim fear and its all racist or something

The father calling his son 'gay' seems more aligned with the stuff about him putting down his son and being homophobic - not because the father necessarily, genuinely, believed his son was gay. I can imagine he was throwing this as a slur rather than as a sincere descriptor. His family background does seem like it would have been terribly difficult if he was gay.

Guys, I have very reliable sources telling me that only the DEAR LEADER and COMMUNIST VALUES can protect us from the vicious American dogs who want to exploit the people. I also have some very much untouched images that prove beyond all doubt that North Korean missile technology is HIGHLY EFFECTIVE.

Like the FBI needed to do a damn thing for this to go ISIS. My first thought was this guy hated himself and was gay, yelling ISIS as you mow down people with an assault rifle has to be the weakest attempt to hide your sexuality I have ever heard.

And it will work.

When you're in favor of communist/socialist regimes, of course that's your news source.

Funny to see it working on people like OP. Actually not that funny, just sad.

The claim comes from an interview with a Brazilian news outlet. I believe this is the original source (but I can't read Portuguese):

What's funny is, I don't know if this is true or whatever, but the FBI is such a shitty organization you can say almost anything about them fumbling and it's totally plausible.

I don't see a problem here. The journalist investigated the food shortages and realized that not only were there not really any food shortages, but that if there WERE, they were being caused by rich people who want expensive olive oil and rich supermarket owners colluding with western powers.

Seems pretty cut and dry to me.

Yeah let's ask Machado how nice it's going over there.

Saw the video and this angle is reaching. The only one that suggests a FBI cover up is her fiancee. She only mentions that she told the FBI of his "homosexual tendencies". The news outlet doesn't focus on his profile and actually mentions how the FBI would further investigate.

Even if the source is junk, can we verify the claims that he was on gay dating apps? If he was planning to survey the club just to carry out his mission I dont see why one needs to join a gay hookups app.

Cord Cedeno says he connected with Mateen a couple years ago on Grindr, but it was hardly titillating. Cedeno says Mateen -- whose profile was a pic of him in a tie -- would only say "Hi" over and over. He says he eventually blocked Mateen, but knows 4 friends who say the Orlando murderer remained active on other apps.

He says Mateen used Adam4Adam to send shots of his penis to men -- but never showed his face. Cedeno says he has no knowledge Mateen was ever successful in hooking up with a man.
