FCC wont take action against Colbert over Trump comments

How soon before Trump fires the FCC director and puts a new person in charge that will silence anyone that says bad things about Trump or focuses too heavily on the Trump/Russia ties.

The FCC is clearly full of nutjobs. First the FBI and now the FCC? When will real American heroes stand up to the tyranny of the far left!?

The current chairman of the FCC is already a Trump appointee and he's definitely drinking the Kool-Aid, but either way if the FCC did try to pull something like that, it would inevitably go to the courts who would immediately find it unconstitutional as fuck. Sooo... I kind of hope he does try something, since that would be a fun fail to watch.

If that's what he was aiming for, he sure missed. Not only did this amount to nothing, it just bolstered Colbert's ratings and gave him at least a night's worth of material.

Kind of fits 45's track record, right? lol

Watch out everyone, if you don't watch your words he might do nothing at you!

It's just intimidation. I think if Colbert had been just another average joe, the person would have clammed up rather than draw further attention to themselves.

This is bullshit.

There never was any kind of "investigation" into Colbert's cockholster comment. What happened was that the FCC received a large volume of complaints by viewers, and they followed their preexisting procedure for processing those complaints. Specifically, by examining Colbert's remarks to determine if they contained any material considered sanctionable by established FCC rules.

It's The Hill that blew that up with "FCC investigating Colbert", in such a way that implied retaliation. It was false and clickbait. And then other outlets cited The Hill.

And this is coming from a guy who hates what the Trump FCC is threatening to do with Net Neutrality.

I believe it was an attempt at intimidation--not by the FCC, but by Trump.

Sure, in the end, nothing came of it, but I imagine that Colbert breathed a little easier when it was all over.

Trump has repeatedly made veiled threats / attempted to bully the media into "behaving". That he failed is great for our country, but seriously, I still think he did it to send a message.

I mean, can you imagine if something had come out of it?

I mean, no, you're literally responding to a post explaining the actual reality of the matter. It was your regular, run of the mill "right-wingers whine about something, FCC does a token investigation because it's literally there job" deal. Maybe Donnie tried to push something behind the scenes, who knows, but with or without him it would have played out the exact same way start to finish.

And if something were to come out of it (and it wouldn't have, so it's a pointless hypothetical), it would have gone to the courts and immediately been overturned on account of being extremely unconstitutional. So the worst case here, Trump and co. face yet another highly embarrassing blowback in the courts. Granted, it would still be fairly terrifying that he tried, I'll give you that, though the whole damn administration is already terrifying top to bottom without digging into hypotheticals and hunches.

I agree with what you have written, and I am not at all surprised that this has amounted to another "L" for 45. The agenda that 45 is trying to push is so heinous that even one victory would probably have profound, long-lasting effects on our country.

I'm just glad that some parts of the apparatus (the judicial branch in particular) seem to be sturdy enough to withstand this administration. I hope they keep holding out, because the majoRity of the legislative branch seems pretty content to follow most of what he's preaching (though that appears to be less true now than before).
