FFVII: AC is "out"..

I watched it last night, great action scenes...couldn't understand some parts of the film since the plot moved waaaaay too fast at time, but maybe I'll get a better understanding of it when the DVD comes out here in the US.

Great CG for the most part, but I think the action looks like it would work much better if this film was done as a traditional cell anime instead of 'quasi-realistic' CG. Realistic-looking characters doing DBZ-ish moves can look odd at times, but still it's all good.

I like the redesign/updates of the characters, particularly liked the Hawaiian print shirt on Yuffie (nice touch) and Cloud's Lego-ish sword arsenal.

BTW, does anyone know if Cloud's Panasonic (FOMA) P900iv cell phone can work on Cingular? :lol

Just watched "Last Order". Two thoughts...

1) Zack was an utter badass.
2) Madhouse and Square needs to expand this into a 26 episode series covering the entire game.

One thing of note I don't think anyone brought up.

When Kadaj retreived Jenova's "head" and first opened the container, he seemed distraught, rather than happy that he finally recieved the thing thats most instrumental in their plot. Why is this? If you look, when Kadaj absorbs the peice of Jenova it doesn't resemble her head at all, look smore like her heart. Why would Rufus part with the actual head so easily? Also Kadaj states "This is MY reunion" implying that this isn't THE reunion which requires Jenova's head to happen. Also, Sephiroth seems all to nonchulant to just have been defeated and he states "I will not be just a memory". All this tells me that Jenova's head is out there somewhere and Seph knows this. I think we have the backdrop for A sequel to Advent Children or a FF VII-2 right there.

But who knows, maybe I'm just a long time Square fanboy, hoping the FFVII franchise isn't finished.

After reading back over the plot, it was stated that Sephiroth takes Jenova's head with him as he falls into the Lifestream (to then be washed up to the Northern crater where his actual body stays). Shinra then comes by later and takes the rest of Jenova's body to safe keeping in Midgar. Now, one might argue that the scene in the beginning of AC with the helicopter is them retrieving the head, but I don't think it is. I don't think they got anything out of there at all except to almost lose Elena and Tseng and meet up with Kadaj's group. Kadaj probably thought the Turks had gotten the head.

Anyways, I think you are right in thinking it was maybe her heart. The container certainly didn't look like it could hold the head, and it being sealed with the fluid leads me to think it was her heart as well (not to mention where Kadaj puts the piece after he takes it out..his stomach).

As for what this means to the FF7 Universe...I don't think there will be a sequel to AC, as it would take too long when they could be making a game instead. I really hope it leads to more of a FF7-2 thing that takes place not long after AC, maybe giving some insight into why Midgar is still seen deserted and overflowing with life 498 years later. I think there was some definite significance to Square repeating the ending to FF7.

now I enjoyed FFVII I liked the characters I liked the story, that said AC fucking blew large amounts of donkey dick :(

i feel bad for anyone paying 60 bucks to import this

I had a short explanation earlier in the thread but here goes again =P.

It's explained that the lifestream governs all life and it flows through each and every creature. As a result of this, the lifestream acts like the immune system to keep the body healthy and natural except it works against harmful and foreign substances that aren't naturally occuring, i.e. Jenova Cells. Geostigma is the result of the lifestream trying to purge the body of these cells and the scars and abrasions on the body are the physical manifestation of this treatment.

When the body has these abrasions, it means they're still in the combatative phase of trying to purge the body and will remain as long as the human is infected. As you see what Kadaj does in Ajit, he introduces more Jenova cells (at least I assume as much) to the Children by polluting the water and having them drink and bathe themselves in it causing them to become more like them. Towards the end of the move, you see the water that comes out of the church which cures the abrasions and actually hurts Kadaj. It's merely water that has had a higher content of lifestream energy similar to what Kadaj did to the water in Ajit.

Mind you, all of this stuff you can figure out from the film. It's not like I'm pulling it out of my ass. =p
That's not the part of it that didn't make sense (relatively speaking).

That still doesn't explain why
only kids seem to have Geostigma, Cloud and Rufus excluded (who have it for perfectly clear and logical reasons based on the explanation given). In order to have a disease caused by the presence and subsequent absence of Jenova cells, that means they must have had Jenova cells in the first place which were then lost, presumably to the Lifestream. Now, there are possible explanations which MIGHT explain why people in general might have been affected, but there doesn't seem to be any kind of plot device anywhere in the series that I can think of that would explain only children contracting it. Unless I'm missing something here.

And since the movie is called "Advent Children" and the fact that they are children is kind of important to the main plot, it seems like it would be fair to assume that there must be reason why it's children specifically.

Well, I just watched it, and I give it a 7/10. They really should've called it Final Fantasy VII: Cloud. Seeing all the others was pretty cool, but for someone who's played the game, I can definitely say all of those characters deserved more than cameos:(

Anyway can someone explain
Where the 3 Sephiroth-looking guys came from? And why (despite Sephiroth himself hating ShinRA and killing the president) they bowed to Rufus' will? And what exactly type of person/thng is Jenova? She obviously doesn't need all of her parts to survive, what with them taking its head and all
Sorry for some of the probably easy questions but I haven't played the game in awhile and the subtitles came up like 10 second before they actually spoke so it got quite confusing.

Hmm, I don't think that's really
Bahamut that they fight. It reminded me much more of the Ultima Weapon, especially near the end of the fight, the angle and it's feet looked very much like how it did in the game when it would fly up and leave the battlefield, similar to what it did in the movie. It didn't really look like any of the Bahamuts in 7, either. Now before you say "but Bahamut was a summon! blah, blah", summon Materia was red, too, and he didn't pick up a red one. But it's just my theory that it's Ultima Weapon and not Bahamut. *shrug*

Edit: finished.

Movie was ok. I wasn't expecting an OMG blockbuster, and I got what I expected.
There are certainly some OMGOMG fan moments, but the movie seemed to just zip from point to point at times.

The action scenes were alright, but I wasn't wowed at any of them, as ShoNuff said earlier, it did seem like a really long cutscene (but really nice looking). Weird pacing. The supporting main characters
had very little to do with the movie/plot except "HEY ITS <insert party member here>" aside from Vincent. Reno and Rude were pretty cool, though. I wouldn't have figured that Rufus survived, though. I kept thinking that the short-haired badguy was Zell from time to time. :lol

The final fight was alright, more OMG WOW
its Sephiroth, who just kind of randomly appears for the hell of it when that Kaduj? guy changes into him. I'm sure big fans love that 'One Winged Angel' plays during it. It just really seemed, like a lot of parts of the movie, were just for fans to get excited.

If you're an uberfan, there will be parts you'll enjoy, because that's what this movie is about.

I thought it was better than The Spirits Within, but that really isn't saying much. It does kind of support MY thought that game stories are nothing spectacular overall, and one more time the example shows that they aren't up to snuff compared to other media. But that's me.

4/10 (NORMAL rating, not game reviewer ratings or whatever where a 7 is bad and not above average). Aka it would take a lot for me to sit down and watch the movie again. Not a waste of time, but once was enough.

If you took the Sakaguchi elements of The Spirits Within and put them in this movie with a little bit better pacing and character development, you would have an amazing movie.

Currently, it was just an amazing video game movie.

I got all the subtle points of the movie in general, but there's one thing that confused me. Who was the "boss" Kadaj was talking to in the beginning of the movie before the attack on Cloud? It didn't make sense for it to be
Rufus

The Boss Kadaj was refering to is Rufus... he called Rufus boss a few times during the movie.

Hiro-Sub released a subbed Last Order OAV.

I think , when Cloud killed Sephiroth seven years ago (at the Nibleheim incident) Jenova cells were released into the lifestream. So, since lifestream is the lifeforce where people's....souls come from when they are born (bugenhagen said this, not me), the new souls come packaged with jenova cells. At least, IMO. Of course, since they neglected to explain this, it's just speculation.

As far as the movie goes, we're only shown that children are the first to feel the effects not necessarily that it only affects children. I'm assuming that it affects everyone but since the principle element is children, only children were shown to have the disease. I think this is the case because you see everyone jumping into the pool of water at the end of the film after Denzel is cured of the disease and you would think that only the people that are affected would jump in.

Jumping into speculation land, I think the Geostigma probably affects everyone because Jenova cells polluted the lifestream itself and because the lifestream passes through all living beings, it was passed on to others. It just might be that children are the first to be affected due to their age and physical stature.

Just watched the movie last night. I thought it was very well made.
I mean, people who didn't follow FF7 storyline might get lost who's who in the thing.. but it was pretty nostalgic to see them all together. :)

I just saw The Last Order Ova....so bittersweet. Such fond memories. It fits perfectly within the storyline and expands it just a bit into more detail about the cinema that had to be triggered to be seen in FFVII.

Zack is pretty badass and that ending, well yeah, we all know how it ends after that. Damn it, I got really pumped me up to play FFVII again!!

Watching that OVA...like someone said before they should just turn FFVII into a 26 episode series. As now it's a bittersweet part of FFVII legacy.

Wow...I just read through the entire thread. I watched it yesterday and was blown away. FFVII is my favorite game of all time and this was such an incredible experience.

What's OVA, btw?

The plot was terrible

Character development was nonexistant

Any and all 'dramatic' elements were about as engaging as watching a Richard Simmons exercise video.

Some of the animation was PS2 level

It wasn't at all realistic

All the supporting characters had little screen time

You had to play the game to understand what the heck was going on

Cait Sith sucks

Besides the story being mind-numbingly cliche-ridden, the pacing was complete and utter crap.

Final Verdict:

10/10, simply because I haven't had this much fun watching a movie since Spider Man.

Original Video Animation (also sometimes seen as OAV which is just Original Animated Video). It's more or less like direct-to-video releases like what Disney does but more prestigious. In most cases, the budget is between a TV series and a movie in Japan.

Regardless of what the reviews are of the movie, I just got my Vincent and Sephiroth Action Figures from the movie and they are amazing! Superb detail!

Last Order is an 25 min long anime that retells the flashback of cloud and zack in nibleheim, sephiroth bruning the city down, and etc

there's also some new scenes, showing zack's skills and the new turks from the before crisis cell-phone game

IMO it was too short,
it ends when zack and cloud are attacked after they hitchhike with the trucker, they shoul've shown zack being killed

Last Order sets up the PSP action-RPG Crisis Core, which is said to be "Zack's game".

Seriously?! Squaresoft has been so tight lipped with FFVII PSP so this is a first for me, my mind full of MGS4 lately.

You can find that info in the EGM FFVII feature. And to date the only trailer for CC is an animated one which turned out to be scenes from Last Order.

I agree with you on plot, character development, supporting characters and having to play the game first, but as you said, it was fun and entertaining, which in a lot of ways, makes up for all of that.

Ya know, I like it when people complain bout how unrealistic it is or like,"Omg, the characters can fly?" stuff. They just have to keep in mind. Its just a 'fantasy'. Anything is possible. thats why it has the fantasy in,"Final Fantasy". Duh
