FFXII: it begins... (again)

that lead character looks like a little bitch.

Sadly by the time FFXII is released in the states PS3 will be out, I cant wait much longer. FF XII has been one of my most anticipated games for 2+ years now. We need more scans with Penelo in it. :)

At this point, they might as well. Graphically, FFXII appears to be a second-gen PS2 title that didn't come out at the right time.

Are you high? The quality of the characters and crispness of the visuals are amazing. It still feels like we've seen the same 12 screenshots since the game was announced a billion years ago though.

It almost kills me to say this but any excitement I have for this game is on hold until the system for leveling up and the battling system are confirmed. I simply don't care about some grid of spheres, obtaining different "jobs" and I damn sure don't like having a little timer just ticking away as I battle. Turn based forever.

All that aside, I'm confident they'll put together a decent story and as amazing graphics and the like have sort of become par for the course I'm sure that most players won't be left wanting for that in the end as well.

I'm personally much more enthused for DQ8 than this game. S-E has taken wayyyy too long on this, and I don't really like what I've seen of the battle system (hopefully they do change it).

It appears that Final Fantasy may not be your cup of tea. Best move on.

Vaan is so pretty.

I used to want this game very badly. Don't care much now.

As a HUGE FF-fan I'm disappointed with my own lack of interest on this game. Still looks very good and I'm definitely gonna buy it but my hype is almost gone..

I'm more disappointed about this whole "delay it to next-gen" thing.
It's a present gen game, i don't want a fucking upgraded port and i don't want to wait one more year. It's not a shame at all to still have big titles for present gen and i hope the PS2 will continue to receive big games until the end of 2007. I doubt i will buy a next gen console before that time.

The characters definitely look nice, but it is suffering from PS2's greatest weakness - trying to display detailed textures in a complex world with detailed environments and character models.

Awesome looking environment, nice character model, but the textures are very washed out. Note the bricks. Looks like a wall up close in a first person shooter with medium texture detail. It doesn't match with the sharpness and clarity of the wooden textures it is right next to, but they aren't far behind.

Washed out. Objects on characters and other aspects of the environment (throughout the game, not just this screenshot) seem to conform to the same surface.

By no means am I saying FFXII sucks, I'm just saying, the PS2 has already shown it's age and games have no choice but to look the way they do now.

dude shut the fuck up and those pictures are blown up. The game looks really pretty; go watch the 200 mb trailer at IGN and you will see what I am talking about.

what I can't get over is, how gay the lead character looks I mean wtf were they thinking?

haha i cant wait to see the official boxart for the game. will they man him up some for the NA cover? :) it really seems like a lost cause.

I'm going to be hated on for this, but oh well:

If this plays like FFXI I'll be happy. Yes, I said it, shoot me now. I'm far from a fan of FFXI, but that's mainly because of the horrendous amount of time-sink the game requires. I really like the combat system, and with the single player prospect of being in control of more than a single class in a battle, it could be really fun. I mean, in FFXI if you were a White Mage you just did White Mage stuff the whole time in battle, but in single player you get to control a range of people with different skills so you're not stuckin one nitch.

I could probably quite happily play through FFXI's storyline if they gave the game the ability to log onto single-player servers where you could build a party, control all your party members in battle, run through the world at your leisure, balance the mob difficulty so it's not so horrendous, and basically have free run of the world. Basically, FFXI as Morrowind I suppose. Just make it less of a time sink and I'd love it.

Basically, the mechanics of FFXI, but minus all of the hardcore MMORPG (as opposed to the WoW newbie-friendly level of MMORPG) baggage.

Relax, there's no way this will be a PS3 game. People seem to think the timing is bad, but in fact the timing is genius. PS3 owners are going to be itching for a great new game, and that game is going to be FFXII.

I don't even see how people can say FFXII is too late or too delayed. Are people forgetting DQ7? That was delayed for more than FFXII and ended up being the best selling PSone game ever in Japan (and the only RPG to ever sell over 4m there).

Considering FF always sells million, FFXII will be no exception, especially since this is the most anticipated FF game coming out this generation.

Wrong. FFXII beat DQVII's delayed record about a year ago. :P

man if Matsuno leaves the project, this game is almost assuredly going to end up sucking. Oh well, i'll probably still get it because remnants of his story and gameplay will be in it.

I may be setting myself up for disappointment here, but I really hope that Matsuno's still on the project. I've been anticipating a new project from him since I first finished Vagrant Story 5 years ago The announcement that he was being given a numbered FF game (with corresponding budget) was probably the most exciting bit of gaming news for me this generation, with the possible exception of SMT Nocturne's US localization. Maybe it's for the better in the long run if he ends up leaving for Mist Walker, but it still means a longer wait for another game with his style.

As for what to expect if he is gone...I still have some faith in Kitase and his team- X-2 sucked but X was awesome enough to keep me from writing the team off after one mediocre effort. But I think I read that they're busy with the various VII spinoffs. I wonder who else would take on the project?
