FFXV's future updates adjust chapters, add cutscenes, add playable characters, more

It seems that taking my time with this game has really paid off! My plan has been to play to a point where I think would be a good spot to start watching Brotherhood. Any suggestions on what chapter I should get to before I start watching that? I ask because I watched the first episode up to the diner scene very early on and they're referencing things that I don't think I've seen yet. I just got to Duscae BTW.

It's better than leaving the game the way it is, but it'd be nice if they at least had the story locked down when the game was released. I agree with the poster who suggested a cutscene viewer for the new stuff if you have already beaten the game.

I'm only on Chapter 6, but you can really tell they cobbled a lot of stuff together from what they had that was done. It wouldn't have taken much effort to throw in some voiceovers explaining everything, either over existing footage from supplemental media or just static images if animating new scenes in-game would take too long. There's other spots where a character probably should be explaining things in an exposition dump but it never really happens even though there's already been 3-4 "mentor" characters who could have done it that I've seen so far.

It'd also be nice if the radio news updates would be collected somewhere, with text transcriptions (or if you could listen to them in your car). That fills in some backstory for sure.

The other balance adjustments/playable new characters sound great and I'm fine with those coming later.

Game's still quite fun, just could have been great with some tweaks. It's like a music album that had troubled production where they recorded a bunch of songs. The album still ended up fairly good but you wonder why they didn't cut a few tracks and replace them with the other tracks that were great (which would have made the album an absolute classic).

Since I'm currently in chapter 8 I guess I'm going to stop playing and return to it when this stuff gets added.

A shame, I was really enjoying it.

Im confused, we ordered the game and its on its way, should be here by the end of the month.....should we start playing once we get it and just NG+ the new stuff? Or shoudl we just wait till the big updates?

God I feel like I'm listening to sports analysts talk about the latest thing Jerry Jones says. CONTROVERSY!

They released a good game. The story falls short a little, and people let it be known. So, the team heard you and is going to try and improve it. Its not that hard to figure out.

Are you fucking serious

Stop playing right now people

Do not get up to that chapter until the patch hits

I repeat

DO NOT PLAY THE WORST CHAPTER IN FF HISTORY UNTIL IT'S FIXED
Their fix for that section isn't going to fix how bad it is. It might help you get through it faster, but it still will be a terrible design choice.

On one hand, this isn't a new thing for the series. FFVII in particular had quite a bit of stuff added to it for it's NA/PAL/International release from new bosses, new cutscenes, and things like adjusting gameplay balance. Only difference here is that every country was the beta tester here because of the simultaneous launch, as opposed to just Japan, in FFVII's case.

(And going beyond FF, this tends to happen a lot with KH, too.)

On the other, a good bit of the things being added/adjusted shouldn't have been issues in the first place, and I can understand the frustration/apathy from people that have already finished and/or washed their hands of the game.

I personally don't think these updates are going to change that much, so I feel like you're fine playing it now.

They might add a few scenes here and there, but people will put 'em up on youtube.

The Chapter 13 fixes probably won't help that much, because it's two main issues are it lasts two long and it's boring. Their proposed changes aren't going to fix that. But, it's only a small part of the game anyway.

I'm not even that far in the game (I've been doing a few sidequest at chapter 3 and I'm at like 15 hours I think), so unless the game is like Metal Gear Rising in the fact that the game has a slow start, then the rest of the game just flies by, it'll probably be a while before I reach the chapter that they're fixing.

Without spoiling too much, it does exactly this.

People should be glad, the game atleast gets a patch for it. There are multiple games like MGVS V for example that never got their shit fixed in the story.

If they fix al those plotholes and bad gameplay of chapter 13 (honestly it's fine but it drags on way to long) the game could be pretty good storywise imo.

My thoughts etc. on chapter 13 and a few other story related stuff before that chapter. And how to fix it. Spoiler tagged just in case.

Also i hope the replace the cut stuff with either cutscenes or other sort of gameplay (action based not survival horror after the first half of it)

If they replace the whole freaking chapter wihlth a cutscene i'm gonna be pissed. They should just make the second half be able to combat through easily with the Sword of the Father.

I kinda liked chapter 13 until the part where you get that sword and still struggle against enemies. That part can be either cut or buff that freaking sword. That made just no sense it's one of the artifact weapons wich are said to be all powerfull but enemies stil can kill you in a few secs lol unless you dodge like a pro.

Also please just add in a scene explaining how ignis wen't blind and what Gladio was doing i get thats for dlc but cmon.... The friends of Noctis are an important part of the game just tell us what they wanted to do or did just don't go in full details and keep those for the dlc. Knowing what they did or how they were injured should be in the main plot.

Lol gamers are the weirdest freakin' group of people man. Company announces FREE updates to make the game better:

"Wow what a fucking mess. Can't believe this shit. RIP FF and SquareEnix."

Whether or not these updates should have been done during dev time is a moot point. A lot of other companies would be like "well we are done with the game, fuck it. What's done is done." but here SE is trying to further enhance the game and people just bitch and moan.

As Noctis would say.... "Un. Believable."

When you're adding what seem like integral parts to the game when it comes to story of course people will bitch and moan. How some of you can't understand why people are upset is beyond me. If a game that has issues telling it's story is getting updates to make that story make more sense and improve then that person got a lesser experience.

Adding stuff like new game plus and all that other jazz is cool extra stuff, but when you start touching things like story it feels like it shouldn't have released in this state. I'm not saying I don't want them to improve it, because I do and I will probably replay it when they do, but I understand why people are upset, it's not really hard to understand either.

Are people really having a hard time understanding where the criticism to this move is coming from? Yes, it's really good that they are supporting this game and adding new stuff to it even after launch and for free. But no, the fact that they HAVE to do this in order to complete the story so it would make sense, is not okay.

Adding more gameplay contents and changes is good and should be commanded. Adding more story stuff so that story won't be a hot mess, just screams that this game was rushed and is incomplete. Hence the frustration that you see in this thread.

Why is it always the defenders that take shots at the people expressing disappointment and not the other way round?

Plenty of people here rightfully expressing annoyance that a game they bought was unfinished, they have already completed a large portion of the game (or completed it entirely) and then get told a week after release that updates are going to flesh out the weak story and fix other big problems. A lot of us don't have the time or the inclination to play through the game again. Great news if you do, or you haven't started it yet, but why can't you see this is bad for others who are not in the same situation?

Comes across as childish to be honest.

I think the rest of us are saying they deserve partial props for doing it. They could have just left it as is, and not have received any of this blowback for announcing they intend to add this new stuff. That was a thing that could have happened.

So, half-props for Square-Enix. Yaaaaaay...

At the end of the day its props for a problem they created. People can sit here and say "well the game doesn't need it!" but clearly SE thinks so since its only been a week and they're already talking about fixing some of the problems with the story. Also I doubt it was from a week of feedback that made them arrive at this decision. I'm sure they knew these problems existed before the game launched and now are willing to openly discuss it. Because frankly discussing it before hand would have lost them some preorders I'm sure. So its awesome that they're fixing the game. Not exactly a move worth putting them on a pedestal for though. They're a business and smart enough to recognize that more people will be willing to buy your dlc if they're satisfied with the base game.

I almost never replay games like this, so maybe I'll sell my PS4 version and just wait it out for the complete PC version instead. I'm not very far in yet anyway. I'm glad to see they're putting some real effort into fixing its issues, but it's a damn shame they released it as is. I highly doubt they were unaware it needed more time in the oven.

Why is there so much positive reactions here ?
Why is it so much difficult to understand that people who saw all those problems are absolutly digusted to see that other will be able to experience it better but not them which DID bought the game on launch, puting their trust on Square Enix ?

Do you think everyone have 40 hours to put on a game all over again because "hey, maybe this time the game will be more fleshed out" ? Time is precious, i hate doing this and i will never forget this stuff from Square Enix. For me it's just a scandal and i don't get why it's not the same for so much people.

I will have FFXV by Cristmas but from now on, all their game will be bought way after their release. Including KH 3 and of course the remake of FFVII, that's like, the LEAST i can react. I feel like i can only have trust in Nintendo for buying stuff early... and Indie games.... And i hope Atlus.

I think after I Plat it, a PC version with all content would be the one to get. I would like a version with better performance if the port ain't crap.

It could potentially set a negative precedent. Why actually bother to release a finished story when it can be patched in later? Sucks for those with cruddy, unreliable or no internet who bought this single player game who can't get the full experience.

You won't know which side of the fence you fall on until you try it yourself, but there are plenty of us on the side that considers it one of the best FF experiences ever.

I've completed the game and now I'm running post game content. I'll absolutely be playing NG+ because, while the game is disjointed at times, it all comes together so well in the end that it left me with the exact kind of satisfaction required for continuous investment.

I'm stoked for these updates, I may even NG+ before them if Irma out first and wait for the my third run.

Go with your gut.

It's not like RPGs are new to this. No one else remember International Editions?

http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/International_Version

The only difference now is that it's free and we get to join Japanese fans in lamenting that they got an unfinished version of the game.

I'm really ok with the patches though. Happy in fact.

True. People have been asking for the PS3 version of Tales of Vesperia for years because it adds so much more stuff to it.

However I don't think it's unreasonable to wait until all that new stuff is released since you'll just have to wait a year for a better product. Same can be applied to most games with DLC though.

Also most studios don't announce that their game is missing a bunch of stuff a week after the release of the launch.

I will play through the game again when they add this stuff, the base game is just that good.

These updates have the possibility to make the one bad thing about this game better, i'm not going to be mad at that.

They were able to make FFXIV a better game, there was backlash with that as well, but they at least followed through and made it better.

So, I have only played FFXV for about 2 hours on PS4 Pro, mainly looking at the difference between the graphics in High and Lite modes.I drove the car around a bit, did a few battles and camped. That's it. I've played almost nothing of FFXV,

I really don't understand all the changes they're planning. And, not really knowing any of the story, locations, events, etc, are Square Enix in the mid to long term planning to put place everything that was in FF vs XIII as well as everything that the big vision of XV was, which had to be cut in order to release it when they did?

Is that what they are saying ?

What a story, Mark.

They didn't need to do this, it's frankly quite amazing that they are.

So I paid 40€ for an alpha? What the fuck is this shit? They realized the game is so bad it doesn't make sense and they are adding cutscenes, characters etc? Really?

Wow, these are some major changes on the way. By the time I play this game it's going to be a completely different experience.

They're saying parts of the story don't make sense so they're fleshing em out so they do, at least that's what's I'm gathering. I'm on chapter 5 myself so I don't know just how disjointed it gets.

More and more I feel like video game makers don't want me to buy their games at launch. I don't replay most games, so I only have one crack at it. I'd rather play the version you fixed/completed/think is best, so naturally I'm very hesitant to buy games near release. And then they're about 1/5th of the price.

Ardyn: "Do you want know what's really going on? I'm -
Noctis: "UNGH! UUUUNGH! AAAAERGH! UUUUNGH!"
Ardyn: "Excuse me, I'm trying to reveal my master plan here!"
Noctis: "Gccck! EEERRRGH! UUUNGH!"
Ardyn: "*inaudible*"

Square-Enix QA: "Thank god we had two months to polish this up!"
FFXV-GAF: "wow so many whiners in [insert thread] honestly you should send square-enix more money, did you even read the official strategy guide??? praise tabata-san praise yoshi-p sama"

Ardyn: "Do you want know what's really going on? I'm -

Yeah, I play without subtitles so I had absolutely no idea what Ardyn was saying in that scene. Huge monologue, and it was completely drowned out. Mainly by the music though as much as by Noctis. Just really poor audio balance in that crucial scene.

Square-Enix: Thank you for your feedback, we're adding all this extra stuff and making these changes for free based on your feedback!

**Changes and additions listed**

GAF: Square sucks, this game should've been delayed again, fire, brimstone, pitchforks, crying.

C'mon yall....not everyone is on the same game playing time schedule as you and can play through a whole game in 3 days. This is excellent that they're doing this. I understand why some of you would be annoyed, but you're also taking this to an extreme with some of your comments.

The hyperbole here

Anyone who played the game knows that ring buff won't change chapter 13 and add some cutscenes about
Revus
won't make a huge difference in the story

If you play now or after this patches it's gonna be almost the same thing

Do you need months to finish a game? The story additions are for midterm.

I doubt it's gonna be absolutely pivotal material. Will it add more flavor to the secondary and tertiary characters? Yes. But is the story fine without it? Yes (debatable by some I guess).

I suppose I can understand why people would be slightly annoyed by it....but saying "omg mess disaster apocalypse 0/10 worst game ever" is a little ridiculous. Be happy they are still working on making the game better after people have already paid for the game. They can easily just leave it in the state it is in now and no one would even say anything.

Also, it's not like facts in the timeline of the game are going to change all of a sudden. If it does I'll be the first to say "wtf? really?" but to me this is just an update to add more back story to guys like Ravus, and maybe a few others that were part of the empire.

Do you really believe that though? They've sunk so much time and money into this game. The last thing they need is word of mouth making their sales drop off. Especially when they have dlc to sell. Its a mainline Final Fantasy game. One of gaming's most recognized brands. They're going to do everything they can to move units.

Yep, in fact they should go ahead and release FF7:R right now, then just patch the majority of the story in later. Most of us will be too busy playing through XV to get around to it any time soon, so no harm done right? /s
