Group Stage

Each team plays against the other teams in their group. Teams are awarded three points for a win, one point for a draw and none for a defeat. The winners and runners-up from each group, as well as the best four third-placed teams, will qualify for the first round of the knockout stage.

The ranking of each team in each group will be determined as follows:

  1. points obtained in all group matches;
  2. goal difference in all group matches;
  3. number of goals scored in all group matches;
If two or more teams are equal on the basis of the above three criteria, their rankings will be determined as follows:

  1. points obtained in the group matches between the teams concerned;
  2. goal difference in the group matches between the teams concerned;
  3. number of goals scored in the group matches between the teams concerned;
  4. drawing of lots by the FIFA Organising Committee.

I've been to 2 games so far.

Zelalem was brilliant vs nz.

Got tickets for the 3rd place play off and final, pretty excited for that. :D

Don't get to see much top live football here haha

Portugal and Colombia have now secured places in the Round of 16 after their game today (Portugal won 3-1).

Serbia v Mexico and Mali v Uruguay are live now.

Uruguay - Brazil and Germany - Nigeria should be good, kick off in 2 hours.

Nz vs Portugal should be a pretty 1 sided match...can see Portugal winning by 3+ goals.

Also, just got tickets for USA vs Serbia this Sunday :)

This guys are the future stars of the Sport, so much potential.

True. But I'm also noticing that a lot of these young players this tournament have a tendency to hold on to the ball too long. The common theme I'm seeing is players trying to do too much at least in the games I've seen. Are you guys seeing the same thing with the games you're watching?

Watching this on EuroSport the last few days here in Ireland.

Brazil Uruguay atm looks like it could kick off into a scrap at any moment. Uruguay are pretty cynical.

wtf @ Uzbekistan

Yeah I notice that too, I am pretty sure they all want to shine since all the clubs in the world pay attention to this tournament.

Haven't been watching this, but that is really sad if true.

I guess another 1970-1994 period awaits Brazil.

Umm... what?

Brazil's 1978 team was undefeated. They just didn't advance out of the 2nd round on goal difference.

Brazil's 1982 team was probably the best team ever not to win a World Cup

Brazil's 1986 team was an older version of the '82 plus Careca.

Honestly, it was the 1974 and especially the 1990 teams they were total duds. The 1990 team was way too defensive, the 1994 team was similar but had Romerio and Bebeto to inject at least a little flare

I'd say the '90s were the worst decade for Brazil until '98 when things began turning around..
