As is the same in all sports, there is a reason Yankess vs. Red Sox is a much bigger game than Pirates vs. Brewers. In game, we make sure the person playing the game has a built-up relationship with the boxers they fight in the big fights. We do this by giving people videos that show how their rival's career is progressing, give people information on when you might fight them, and really build up the fight to be a special event during the course of your career.
We also do things in the actual fighting to emphasize this as well. For instance, at the big weigh-in press conference, sometimes fights break out even before the fight in the ring. Then, once in the ring, there is special AI as well as customized fighting tactics your rivals will use. During the course of the game, you build up an emotional anger towards your rivals that really puts a purpose behind the fight and a purpose behind every punch in the ring.
There is also also an ESPN Classics mode that lets you relive the greatest rivalry fights in boxing history. The cool thing is that the biggest rival fights in your career become ESPN Instant Classics so you can also relive the biggest rivalry fights that happen in the game as well.
All of the great historical rivalries can be played in our ESPN Classics mode. But again, one of the really cool features here is being able to relive your own classic rivalry fights from all your career modes!
