I'm gonna make some YT recs for a second. These are the channels I'm subbed to that post reprints of nico stuff or other strong Japanese footage in various anime (and other) games.
Jourdal / Jourdal15Plus - Everything worth seeing of Blazblue from nico gets reprinted here.

Chainshift
- Everything worth seeing of UNI on nico gets here. It's mostly Leisureland Akihabara filling it up, but that is the strongest UNI arcade by a mile.

Goldenrody
- Reuploads Guilty Gear stuff from Mikado, the strongest Guilty Gear arcade in Japan. Occasionally other arcades or PSN uploads and etc pop up.

Tsuntenshi
- DFC arcade uploads.

korewamelty - Melty Blood, mostly from the stronger arcades or player exhibitions.

Mikado Arcade - This is Mikado arcade. They play a bunch of old shit and kusoge and get really drunk and weird and it's awesome.

TheShend - Most people know this one. 3rd Strike stuff, lots of high level JP arcade play.

SSFIIT - uploads Super Turbo stuff, mostly Gamespot VS dan rankings.

BATTLE ARENA クラブセガ新宿西口
- Club Sega Shinjuku, lots of UNI and DFC

Ougon Rensei 【黄金練成】- Lots of KoF


Everything Tizoc posts is from an arcade called a-cho out near Osaka. They have 2 YT channels most of you already probably know.

There are a few more random ones I use but these are the ones I check often. Doaghthadojo is one of my favorites because they upload so much random shit and it's great, but they are suspended and Idk if they're coming back. Anything else I watch is from stream grabs and nico. If people want to add to this list and save it somewhere in this thread I don't mind, talk to GB or Shouta.

With Black Friday coming up has anyone heard of any deals for DOA 5 LR for ps4? Was hoping to get back into it so I have a fighter with decent online to play with, super tired of MKX's online.

i didnt think this could get any worse, but there it is. Andy looks like shit

KOF fans working overtime to explain why this game does not look horrid.

I think it was a good point that this game doesn't look that different than an Ultimate MVC3, or even something like Tatsunoko VS Capcom. It's kinda par-the-course for games that focus on Roster Number over a smaller, more concentrated cast.

Animations aren't fluid on purpose, they are frame based to simulate 2d frames, like guilty gear xrd.

I like how the animation looks like 2D KoF. Smoothness through 3D motion interpolation between frames does not quality animation make. It doesnt have all the secondary stretching and hand-drawn perspective as Xrd, but I also don't find the actual motions as "framey", personally. And it seems they've just started adding some blur effects to motion, like with Andy's Shoryuudan and Leona's Strike Arch.
 
KOFXIV still doesn't look "good" by modern standards. Still, 3 teasers, each with marked improvement. They obviously care enough to fix it. KOF fans should be happy (I am).

Non-KOF fans... Well I hope a few try it. They obviously want more.

I'm an Andy Bogard fan in general so I'm happy to see him back. Fan of KoF in general so I'm looking forward to seeing how the game actually plays more than caring about how it looks at this point. Its nice to see its still baking in the oven though. The graphics and textures are slowly receiving polish. I think they should adjust in game lighting and increase the falloff on a few things to make stuff pop more. Currently they look sort of washed out. A more detailed specular map and depth map hopefully come up soon to help with that as well.

Okay after Andy is done showing the HD tends to kick in so what I want you do to is watch the shadows on Iori's knee and shin...does it look like real shadows or a baked texture?
The answer...its baked. The shadows never change but move with him because they are in fact a painted texture on the model's pants. This tells me that they have a washed out look like old school stuff because they simply haven't gotten to the specular, depth and possibly some displacement mapping yet. Those maps once generated allow the engine to take on the lighting and create all the nice ripples and depth filled shading you need. Plus you can even have some stuff appear only in light (like the scuffs on a floor tile that are only visible at certain angles).

Those things take time to get right. ESPECIALLY if your characters have a lot of smoothish geometry and aren't big ripply shapes. No geometry means more tweaking of lighting engines and more and more back and forth on maps to refine things so they fake depth and shades properly to look good. Like I said...takes awhile in the oven before the meal is fully baked and ready to enjoy. Models and the rest though are DEFINITELY in a state that says with more shader time and lighting polish they can get what folks would be happy with.
 
Its the lighting, especially in the level. Everything looks flat and symmetrical with little to no shadows. The material contrast feels all washed out and you need little touches like movement dust.

XIV isn't a looker but if it has 50 characters and the gameplay is on point (which it seems to be so far) then I'm good.

How you even gonna make the judgement that the gameplay looks on point so far? All we seen is a bunch of 3 second clips of people doing combos...

Another reason I'm not liking parrying is because it limits the game.

Compare to Ultra SFIV and Super SFII Turbo and it's night and day. The zoning and footsies game applied in other games isn't as applicable because of parrying. Put a character like Dhalsim into Third Strike and they'll have a hell of a time. I like fightball wars and zoning but a lot of it is made impossible or just really tedious to do because of the existence of parrying.
Necro still is an annoying fuck.

I've always wondered what people meant when they say Tekken is not a "true" 3d fighter. Like is there some actual merit behind it or is it just a way to slander Tekken?

If SF is fought along the X and Y axis, then Tekken is fought along the X and Z axis. You can make arguments that stuff like dodge, rolls, and parries are equivalent to sidesteps and hops, and vice-versa.


Though Tekken, with the way some character's stances lean towards the fore or background and the way some attacks don't sweep deep enough through the Z axis, they can whiff on a character where in a flat game would connect.

Because the timing on the combos and movement is the same as the 2D KOFs, check out comparison vids on youtube.

I remember back during the first beta people claiming the top SF players (or maybe it was some "top players" themsevles saying it?) had already "figured out" the characters, lol.
