Back on topic of fighting games I noticed that a lot of us have played some pretty non mainstream stuff. We got fans of Jojo ASB, I was a Kamen Rider Chou Climax Heroes dude, we got DOA dudes and even leftover folk from the Virtua Fighter 5 crews.

We got a pretty odd mix of experiences.

For me...I guess what hooks me is cancel systems. I was deep into Kamen Rider Chou Climax Heroes because Im Toku as fuck and it had everyone ever, but I kept playing that broken tier game because the cancel systems. Mixing up jump cancels, rider arts and rider cancels gave me a trio of extensions to utilize for meter in this string based fighter but since some strings would automatically give you a big burst of meter upon completion you could just keep it goin. Broke as hell and I had combos that could infinite left and right, but bursts existed so it was all good.
I loved doin shit like this with Amazon's cancels.

Triple Da GOD was a gift to us all on that game with his primers. Credit to him for that gif

On a similar note I played a LOT of Blade Arcus for similar reasons. The game has a built in cancel system, plus I played Rick who was rekkas and cancels on everything plus it had assists to end strings with to stay safe. It made him another cancel rich character for long blockstrings and combos.I guess I keep playing fighters that let me cancel moves often in different manners. If it incorporates a meter system around those cancels and other stuff it really gets me goin.

Out of all your oddball titles that you just hung with that never stuck around or got anywhere in the FGC what were the things that drew you to them and made you want to keep playing them regardless of where the FGC went without you?

Just want to throw this out, because this is relating to the Farewell to UMVC3 tournament that Jakoman, bblue15, and I are hosting next week on Sept. 8th, because we got a article posted about it on Kotaku!

If you want to check it out, here it is right here.

Also, if anyone still wants to sign up, the sign up link is here.

The sign up is free, and there are $300+ in cash prizes, and a copy of MVCI for the PS4!

Just quoting this for the new page

I'm glad those primers helped you turn that corner from where you started from when you thought the game had little merit as a fighting game with depth and look at you now and how you approach all games.

Experiences like these and the other ones people have shared about those videos made all the lab time worth it.

I made those primers to prove a point and I know the point made it across. The game and the series itself inherently had depth and it just took somebody to drag it out for all to see and now it can't be denied.

In the end, I'm just glad I could do a little something for a series of games that brought me so much.

Shaowebb went to bat to get it made and proceeded to murder the OT for the game if anybody's curious about wanting to know more.

He had some help from some dude named Triple Da G.O.D! but I've never heard of whomever this person is so whatever.

If something catches your fancy and you want to know more then shoot me a PM and I'll be glad to answer any question you may have.

Real talk. I wish someone would hire Lab Zero to make a fighting game for their licenses. They've more than proved their worth. Its just so weird though that after all that fan support the world over, and positive feedback and word of mouth name value that can't be faked that no one hires them to make anything for them and they have to crowdsource anything they do.

They kind of remind me of Wayforward. Folks love em and they got a great style but it seems like for years they didnt get enough work or attention from the industry. It turned around for Wayforward eventually though and now they get hired for stuff but I'm still waiting for Lab Zero to make it over the hump and get some more work thrown their way.

I still dream of full concept roster Skullgirls happening someday. So many good ideas.

It's like they were just sitting fiddling their thumbs. After reforming as L0 they immediately did the crowdfunding campaign for extra Skullgirls characters, and as soon as that finished started work on Indivisible (which is obviously a massive project) so they could get another crowdfunding campaign going. We'll see what they have planned next probably in 2019.

L0 doesn't need and probably doesn't want to do licensed projects. They brandish that "indie" label for a reason. As long as Indivisible doesn't tank, and there's no reason to believe it will, they'll probably move on to another project of their own design, likely without it needing to be crowdfunded

I hope so. I would just like them to be handed a large budget someday to see what they could create with it. Besides profits from stuff like that lead to better footing for their own ip afterwards to work with.

Two and a half hours of Super DBZ from this past week:

How's the new one differ from the old ones? I never got into it. Kind of reminds me of Virtua On somehow.

Well the main change is that it's a 3v3 game instead of a 1v1, so say goodbye to cinematic supers and air chases. Main combat system remais the same, you have your Bravery attacks that are your normals and your HP attacks that are your supers, in 012 you could use 3 HP attacks but now you can only use one. The main difference to me what IMO my biggest point against the game is tha tall the cool shit you could do in 012 due to the movement system (like jump cancels, melee pursuits, etc.) is simply gone because now dashing works like it does in a Gundam VS game (complete with boost bar) but without all the cool shit you can do with it like dash and step cancelling.

Add in all the chaos that comes with 3v3 and I see it dying very quickly as far as the competitive side goes, similarly to J-Stars Victory VS that suffered from similar problems.

Maybe some of those users shouldnt try to justify paid mods when they already been DMCA by Capcom.
I don't see how that's pertinent. If he didn't want anything to do with running the forum on a day-to-day basis, why does he feel entitled to use his admin privileges?

If his response to people disagreeing him is to throw tantrums and edit people's posts to say dumb things, I don't think anyone's at fault for not wanting to continue using a forum where he holds all the keys and guns.

Bear in mind that Capcom didn't ask him to do anything. His entire reasoning boils down to "I don't like it."

People can do all sort of things, dude is obviously on a power trip, but the main reason so far for the move is to protect two users who are trying to profit over mods. There's no good dudes here.

i think go1's been stuck on chun despite the nerfs, but with menat dropping it looks like he's got a new main

it's gonna be funny if he starts eating everyone's lunch for the rest of the year

Calling it that Menats gonna end up being worse than fang this season.
She already has better VT, better damage, better pressure/mixups and a better CA though!

But damn, easily the worst reversal in the game, not even season 1 Cammy come close!

It's a guy who's self-admittedly not part of the community doing stuff to damage the community because he was on some high horse that no one else cared about.

I don't really see anything wrong with modmakers getting paid on their own. What makes it morally more objectionable than cosplayers or fan artists with Patreons?
