He probably switched to Ryu due to a lack of practice in the Hawk matchup with Poison. He probably wasn't sure what moves from her are best in what situation, while he was playing Ryu for years and probably just felt safer in that situation with a character he knows better, even if it's not the best option he has.

he's been like that since Cammy was touched by the hand of god.

spoiler alert: Cammy is still a good character, you just "can't play her like you use to"

LPN's biggest issue is that he spends more time learning the basics of a counterpick than to learn the nuances of any one character. He's scary early on, but against true character specialists his counterpicks tend to fall flat
