Fighting Games Weekly | August 6-12

He played it for 5 minutes :P

False, mike would fit with Kanji

Not beefy enough. Kanji is buff and all, but he isn't in the same league as Marduk, E. Honda or Zangief.

On another note, KoF got really good numbers early on and everyone knows how that went. I wouldn't be surprised to see a large drop off.

Wait KOF got near 80 people at WNF? I don't remember that at all. At most it was like 40-50

edit
It never even did well in EC either at Next Level. I don't ever recall KOF ever being streamed at Big2 for a tourney.

Not sure about 80, but KoF was mentioned on Levelup in reference to the last time an alternative fg got such high numbers.

certainly higher than SG, VF, BB (when it was at the proud bird), AH3, and MK9 (proud bird), but nothing like completely beating the capcom games.

Has any non-capcom game ever beaten both Marvel and SF4 in entrants at WNF? I can't name any.

Atlus is definitely doing a great job promoting the game.
The 24 hour stream, the Machinima stream, all the Cross Counter videos, the upcoming Level Up tournament on Saturday, and I imagine even more things in the next few months.

And then of course, there will always be those free shirts and glasses at Evo.

wait people got glasses at evo? DAMN THEM

This year is probably the best year for fighting games ever! :D

SC5, TTT2, SF X Tekken, P4Arena, DOA 5, Naruto Generations, etc. oh my..........

It will take a while for Persona to drop off. I don't see how this game doesn't make EVO.

I really wish melty blood had a xbl/psn release. Probably would have taken off a lot better.

Melty is too ugly-looking to do well in the mainstream US FGC.

Why do you think Dead or Alive still exists?

...

i actually know nothing about doa, i'm just joking, because all i think of when i hear "doa" is the bikini shots :x

If sf4 was 2d it would have not gotten as popular as it did in the states. Yeah I know that sucks

i wouldnt be so sure of that. i think they would have gotten by on the whole 2.5D thing (wait, isnt it technically 2.5d?)

when they first showed the sf4 reveal video everyone was creaming their pants because they thought the game was going to be in that waterpaint mode and maybe a continuation of the Okami cel-shaded look.

Visual appeal is key point in all games to a certain extent. MK sure as heck hasn't been selling on gameplay.

Exactly, anime-moe style games have an extremely niche appeal. It doesn't really matter if they are great games or not, most people won't buy them for the art style because they don't like it and that's perfectly reasonable.

Current Code V.1.07 stepped it up in the visual department. User interface and HUD is much cleaner and vibrant and resolution got bumped up. A Melty Blood that actually has an north american release and is priced fairly would surely do well.

I can't see it doing better than Arcana Heart. (and I like Arcana, it's the only anime game I do like)

I actually do; the game had a stronger North American community than Arcana Heart to begin with. I wish I remember the numbers for it at EVO 2010. Although Arcana Heart could have actually did better than what it did if it wasn't for various freak accidents and it coming out before evo and then not being inducted in the line up.

A PSN download of a 2009 title is never going to be a featured EVO game.
