Marvel 2 didn't get taken off the tournament rosters because Marvel 3 came out.

It got taken out because aside from Sanford most people gave up on winning majors where Justin shows up and thus attendance dwindled. Everyone knows that no matter how much they play MVC2, Justin will always be the GOAT. Game might still be alive if Justin didn't exist.

People should be happy that Justin doesn't just pick Vergil and demolish all competition. The game would die in a week if Justin combined his Wong factor with Dark Vergil.

Can someone PLEASE explain to me why Justin is so good at Marvel games?

I'll give it a try. Great defense, great yomi, great positioning/spacing, knows high damaging yet easy combos, has all the experience in the world to play patiently and wait for his opponent to hang himself, and the most underrated one, knows how to read his opponents extremely well so he's one step ahead(or two or three) almost all the time.

EDIT:

He doesn't goes full top tier yet because no one has given him a reason to do so. Closest one was Chris G, he has fallen a bit tho(he's not playing it as much anymore) and seems like no one else is going to make Justin do it. He won some tourneys using Iron Fist, for ChrisG's sake.

I think at a Season's Beatings, MvC2 was having its last major event, and the grand finalists (JWong and ?) actually left their matches just to go watch MvC3. That's a killer right there, when people abandon their matches just to spectate. I think it set the tone for MvC3. Out with the old, in with the new.

Also, JWong has picked Vergil, and it hasn't been better for him than Wolverine. Not every player can excel in the same way with every character. I can't play most top tier characters for crap, in any fighting game. JWong is the best there ever was, but he might jive significantly better with Wolverine contra Vergil.

That seems like a general description of a great fighting game player, which Justin is. But how do you explain his performance in SF? In a worldwide ranking of Ultra, I wouldn't consider him a threat at all.

So what's missing? Does he just love Marvel and Storm more? Lack of international competition in the game so he's the uncontested GOAT?

Wolvie/Storm/Akuma is HIS team. I don't think he could ever do better with another team. Some people just do best with certain characters.

Sad realization: early brawl was more hype to watch than early smash 4 ._.

They just did m2k vs ally in smash 4. It was an average ass mario vs Diddy match. In brawl, ally's snake vs m2k's meta knight was a fucking WAR. Both players were aggressive as fuck back then, and it was super fun to watch.

That only works in a game like Marvel. Talent and experience aren't going to be mean shit at Capcom Cup next week, where the game has crazy international competition. Rog better be practicing hard or I can see him going 0-2. Actually, forget that. Nearly all those players could go 0-2 because of the terrible tournament format. :/

Woah, dude, calm down haha. I was talking about him bodying people for free in Marvel. SF is a completely different monster, if you don't practice, bad habits appear and combo drops left and right. I don't know if Rog is in Capcom Cup but he ain't gonna make it past his first match, getting bodied by NY folks who wouldn't stand a chance in Capcom Cup.

What's missing is that most of Japan and other South East Asian countries don't play it.

Just got home from work, seeing team PIE in all white made me laugh. I think Smug will lose to Wong...but I hope he wins.

Yeah, I feel the same way too. I dunno if endgame Brawl is what's affecting Smash 4, but it's not as exciting for me.

Yams, I wasn't trying to go in on you, even though my post sounded like that haha. Part of me is just salty that Rog can get 2nd at Marvel simply relying on talent and experience... so part of me wants to see him get bodied at CC. /hater

Ricky Ortiz did not make top 32. She said on Twitter she was going to see how far she could get with Poison, but even without Rufus I am surprised.

There are plenty more character specialists in SF and it's a slower game. He doesn't even practice Marvel and he can get the wins with fundamentals and reading his opponents. He still goes for the EG special with Rufus and it costs him more in SF, where he doesn't always get to play his game and combo drops can cost him games.

EDIT: I forgot two things: he's extremely fast at adapting and he's very, very good at watchng the game from an outside perspective, simplifying what happens and analyzing exactly what goes on and what he can do to win, what he has to avoid and what are his opponent's bad habits(to exploit them afterwards with his fast adaptation).

Haha, its cool man. I ain't salty cause he's the daywalker for a reason. Luckily, SF is another case. He trains for that but we'll see come Capcom Cup.

Don't worry PRRog makes me salty too. He almost got the win over Justin and sleezed out wins against both of those Chris'. His YOLO is just too strong.

I missed a lot regarding how Brawl's meta progressed post 2010, but I'm very curious to know what specifically is showing through in the play now.
