Damn. Lately I been hearing a lot about friends dealing out shitty situations. Not sure what to say. That sucks. Best advice I can give is suck it up, swallow your pride and ask him if his friend will also let you crash there considering he's the one that got you into this mess. Or you can just do what me and a buddy usually do at long distance cons: go there, do your shit, leave, find a bar or an arcade or somewhere that's open late to hang out at for a while, then crash in the car at the parking lot of a place that's open 24/7 like Walmart haha. This method is really only enjoyable if there's more than one person involved though :/

Is that what you truly think?

You read my post right?

Anybody who thinks that these popoffs are representative of the scene as a whole arent worth bothering with. Caring more about popoffs over the well being of the community...really? If thats what you think this scene has become maybe you should spend less time immersed in popoff news. We have people of all colors ages and backrounds playing together at tons of tournaments and these incidents dont happen all the time. Who cares about the people that think angry popoffs are what the scene is all about?

The problem is what's actually representative of the scene as a whole doesn't get the attention elsewhere. It's the negative that does.

I'm not immersed in popoff news, but if you think I'm wrong, just look at how many pages and responses are dedicated to it in this thread and how it's now turned into a meme. It's everyone else that loves it and can't wait for the next WSHH moment to happen.

What I feel is that the community should pay attention overall to detrimental behavior and how the community is represented because it does have an impact. It's not just about this one incident.

Maybe some scenes police themselves better.
I think it's pretty undeniable that tolerance is a problem in the FGC. People getting passes for being friends with the TO, TOs accepting back repeat offenders under the pretense that they will learn instead of making a hard call, etc. Its a negative byproduct of the intimacy in the scene that we all love. That and we already have targets on our heads because FGs didn't slip immediately into the mould of RTS and MOBA games and blow up.

If you think that stories about , for example, neogaf help funding Q to get to his first Evo is gonna gain traction on shit like WSHH or anywhere else then you been fooled yourself. At some point you just gotta do you and say fuck it to all that kinda shit. We also had many pages of last weeks thread talking about the last two tournaments and DaiGOAT so to say that this community only cares about drama is bullshit. The reason why that was discussed to that extent here is because one person here was personally involved with the incident and had an opinion not many agreed with.

Yeah, I asked him, he said he'll try but since it isn't his place but his parents, he can't really bring a lot of people in, plus his brother is there during college vacation so space is minimal at the moment. I talked it out with one of my other friends and he's sorting something out at the moment, possibly a split on a hotel room if there are any left since the Melee numbers look daunting. Plus, after I said I'm gonna be homeless that weekend, the guy helping me out replied: "We all are, hype. Mickey D's bathroom stalls." I burst out laughing but the situation looked grim then but for now I'm waiting on his reply, if it gets any worse I'll do what you said Gorilla, hopefully with a friend or with the guy I'm texting. He's more straight forward than the other guy so I can be honest with him and explain how shitty the situation is.

Late on this but if you guys don't bring me into the fold I'll be super sad

Be cool about it man, they'll let you in if you act tsundere.

Posted this in the Ultra Street Fighter 4 Thread, but that thread doesn't get much traffic now. I figured it would be easy to find and someone here might find it useful. Warning, wall of text ahead.

Haven't posted much lately, its been a month since I posted in here. Have had quite a scare the last few weeks. Doctors found a tumor in my neck, and have been having tests done, luckily after testing we have found out its benign, but it should probably be removed eventually. So I haven't felt like doing as much character testing recently, but now that I know I'm good, I can get back to posting my findings and stuff on Blanka no one seems to want to hear lol.

Here is some more stuff I have found(likely someone else found has these as well) that pertain to Cody. Note these are for Ultra 1.04. Damage and Stun values are bolded.

Cody has a character specific link that has probably existed before Ultra or 1.04, but I had not seen it my self. Close standing HP usually pushes to far back to link any other close normal after. However, some characters leave just enough room to link close standing MP after it. This is a 1 frame link and is spacing specific, a deep jump in Roundhouse(HK) helps with the spacing. This allows cody to get even more damage and stun off jump ins against certain characters. I will add a list for what characters this works on soon.

Example of best meterless jump in without this link:
J. HK- Towards MP- Cl. MP- Cr. HP- HP CU= 372 Damage, 652 Stun

With the Cl. HP- Cl. MP link:
J. HK- Cl. HP- Cl.MP- Cr. HP- HP CU= 412 Damage, 752 Stun

This gives Cody some powerful combos to use, not all are listed here but here's a few examples:
1 Bar Corner Required- J. HK- Cl. HP- Cl. MP- Cr. HP- Lvl 3 Zonk- EX CU= 496 Damage, 855 Stun
3 Bar Mid screen- J. HK- Cl. HP- Cl. MP- Cr. HP- Lvl 3 Zonk- FADC- Crack Kick- EX CU= 509 Damage, 912 Stun
2 Bar Combo- J. HK- Cl. HP- Cl. MP- Cr. HP- Lvl 3 Zonk- FADC- Ultra 1= 596 Damage, 740 Stun

Also Have been messing around with Cody's knife and its changes. While the basic problems with it are still there, the added juggle potential allows more damage and some more utility, which is a plus. If you are using the knife, end your combos in a Light Punch Criminal Upper. Yes it does less Damage than HP Criminal Upper, but it allows for a follow up with the knife that ends up giving more damage and stun than if you finished with HP Criminal Upper.

Example, A basic Knife combo would be: Cr. LP- Cr. LP- Cr. LK- HP CU= 208 Damage, 294 Stun
Utilizing this new juggle potential, you can instead: Cr. LP- Cr. LP- Cr. LK- LP CU- Cr. MP= 242 Damage, 312 Stun
This is even stronger in the corner as you can juggle into Cr. HP instead of Cr. MP, the same combo above ending with Cr. HP instead does 266 Damage, 372 Stun

Fortunately, there is a way to follow up with Fierce (HP) from mid screen, and it happens to be using one of Cody's least used normal's, Close Standing MK. When using close standing MK, it keeps Cody close to the opponent when he follows up with LP Criminal Upper, allowing him to follow up with Cr. HP. If you cross the opponent up with MK, you can still hit the Close MK, you will need to follow up with standing HP instead of a Cr. HP (The hit box on Standing HP reaches just a bit further than Cr. HP). Close MK also holds the distinction of being the only normal Cody can cancel into Level 1, 2, and EX Zonk when he is holding the Knife. You can also follow up a Lvl 3 Zonk with Cr. HP in the corner. EX Zonk Mid screen uses Standing HP Instead.

Basic Examples of this(J. HP means jump towards HP with knife):
Without knife: J. HP- Cl. MK- LP CU= 338 Damage, 476 Stun
With Knife: J. HP- Cl. MK- LP CU- Cr. HP= 406 Damage, 568 Stun
Cross up: J. MK- Cl. MK- LP CU- S. HP= 356 Damage, 468 Stun
1 Bar Knife Combo: J. HP- Cl. MK- EX Zonk- S. HP= 422 Damage, 640 Stun

One more thing to mention on knife Juggles is after the juggle you push the opponent away, but there is enough time to dash forward once and still be safe. From this reset here you can go into Cr. LK- LP CU into another juggle reset, Crack Kick, or an overhead if they are close to stun. While Cody's overhead is slow and mostly unsafe, at the range after the dash its relatively difficult to punish, and some characters can't. Also if you juggle in the corner, depending on how you time your dash you can cross under for a deceptive mix up.

So some pretty nice stuff, makes the knife more tempting and worthwhile when picked up. I have some more stuff with Blanka as well, mostly reset shenanigans, but I'll post that later. I love doing this kind of stuff, and if anyone finds it useful it just adds to the enjoyment. If there's any other characters you want me to look at and test stuff, feel free to ask, I'm more than happy to do so!

So apparently I have no place to stay at for APEX since my friend blabbered about all of us staying in a hotel room or at a friend's house and the hotel room ain't happening for him. Additionally, he's the only one staying at the friend's house so I bought my ticket that might go to waste if I don't have anywhere to stay at, I don't have enough money to pay for a hotel room by myself, jobless for now. When I mentioned it to him yesterday he avoided eye contact with me as much as he could, knowing the only reason I bought the ticket is cause he mentioned we could stay somewhere, got pretty awkward when I brought it up to him and acted like he didn't know anything. Since he already has a place to stay at, he couldn't care less where I'm at when they didn't even bat at eye when I told them I had nowhere to stay and he was the one telling me to go. I would commute, if it wasn't 2-3 hours to get there... where did I go wrong in my plans? I should have probably talked to the other guy (the one letting the hypeman who got me to buy the tickets stay at his place) next time and see if this guy is BSing or not. I was really excited for APEX since its the second tournament I would have ever gone too, tournaments rarely happen in NY and NJ is once a year but now that dream is almost dead. Hell I couldn't even stay the entire time at DTN cause I didn't have a place to stay at and it was also 2 hours to get there. Any opinions to my situations? I honestly don't know how to feel cause if I left my negative emotions get the best of me, I would call the living shit out the guy who pretty much made me waste my money.

Edit:

Horrible english, too lazy to edit.
When I went to UFGT, I posted on SRK asking if anyone wanted to split a room. Posting there and/or on Smashboards might be a good option for you.

I think on the competitive side of things, that is definitely an issue, especially with some TOs. They also promote/condone the problematic parts of the FGC culture. And this is why I do not support these TOs anymore.

I also think some folks don't really want the FGC to grow- they're happy with it as they are, kings of their own castle- or at best only wanting it to grow on their terms.

To me, a growing FGC= a growing casual base= more money for a wider variety of fighters= more chance of me finding a game I'll like. It's not just social justice , it's self-interest.

Maybe some scenes police themselves better.
This is essentially the issue with the "Take it to SRK!" method of trying to deal with a local problem- it's a local problem. NYC != LA != AFGC != DMV - they're all different, and although macro-issues will always be present (due to it featuring a lot of young immature guys), if there's a specific thing happening, you have to address it within your community.

What I feel is that the community should pay attention overall to detrimental behavior and how the community is represented because it does have an impact. It's not just about this one incident.

meh, caring about people who're just waiting for ammunition to talk shit

might as well tell them to go fuck themselves once and for all

Youre not wrong at all, your point about the meme coming from it and people loving it is right. Admittedly I love popoff moments as well...when they are the result of a really good game or some backstory coming to a head. If they are unwarranted and just naked agression I dont think thats good clearly, but you cant have a pristine care bear scene all the time. Its unfair to the people, especially when so much good is done regularly. Dont you enjoy popoffs? When Sanford threw his stick? Or even the Viscant LowTierFraud thing? Maybe its my inner manchild that loves wrestling drama but I suspect everyone enjoys popoffs. If people on the outside focus on only the negatives I think thats on them. Its also a game rooted in 1v1 competition, so its always going to have its popoff moments.

The issue then is, what if the issues aren't being handled by the local comm?

At least some majors are good about this, and the heavily-sponsored events like EVO/Capcom Cup have to care due to the money.

Serious question:

What detrimental behavior are you talking about that should have been handled better?

'Cause if we're talking about WhoBitchThisIs, I saw staff step in and put the brakes on the situation the moment someone decided to make it physical. No one was hurt, the person who let her temper get the best of her was escorted out of the venue, and the event continued as normal. What is there that needs to be addressed further?

I actually think Viscant vs LTG is kind of lame, for the record. Manufactured beef and showboating isn't something I'm crazy about.

The FGC at it's best can be
really heartwarming and touching.

At it's worst...

Gotta take the good with the bad. The hype pop-offs with the Saltford stick throws. One of the reasons I love this community so much is because it encompasses so many diverse people/cultures/personalities, etc. With that you're going to get a lot of differences.

I love that there can exist a quiet stone cold killer like Daigo and a hype-man like Yipes in the same community.

If shit's violent or insulting/offensive, then yes, TO's settle it. Anything else: accept it and move on.

I'M OUT!!

Hahaha that Mickey D's shit is exactly the kinda shit my friend'll joke about. But man best of luck to ya. STRUGGLE IS REEEEAL.

Best anime ever.

Fixed.

Yipes is smart/nice enough to do hype without just being disrespectful towards folks. (I'm sure Yipes could twist the dagger if he wanted to though)

This isn't about hype vs the Lance Storm school of charisma. This is about not being an asshole.

I mean, disrespect is in rare occasions, like Viscant vs LTG grudge matches , not too bad, but in random public situations, shouldn't be encouraged ever.

I was referring to his personality not respectfulness. Loud, charismatic, kinda obnoxious. This difference is what I'm getting at. Nobody should be butthurt over someone's attitude or how they present themselves. There's violent/offensive situations and then there's everything else. No arguments should be had over the latter. Simple as that.

If trying to make a community more welcoming is grinding an axe, give me Mad Axes.

I'm sick of having friends quit and feel uncomfortable. SIck enough where I'm voting with my wallet in some cases.

Wtf are you guys even talking about?

I guess this is better than having to read 10 pages of people listing off what games are going to be in Evo.

Also why did Kimo and Blackule get banned? They didn't even do anything.

Kimo was being overly antagonistic and blackule channeled his inner JC and pretty much did a loldidntread.gif

Please elaborate on why they quit. I can name many people that I know entered the scene in 09/10. We all cant act like Ned Flanders but overall the scene is far more welcoming than unwelcoming. The nature of the game and competition Iitself isnt always welcomiing and inviting but as far as the people go they are generally cool.

Breh tf u talking bout? We all know that DBFC and UNIEL are finally guna make it into the final 8 this year.

I've been loving the Steam release of Ultra Street Fighter 4. Been playing it basically since 10am today. My C.Viper and Cammy are actually doing big things.

Speaking of unsafe places Twitter just recommended that I follow akiman and dammit that feed is NSFW.

I love the times he gives other artists spotlight or he drops one of his gems from his vault of Capcom goodies, but damn does it make it hard to sneak in Twitter anywhere professionally when "that" kind of art gets going. Sure it's mostly high quality technically, but the subject matter would leave someone jobless in a heart beat. :lol

To the point where you do things like talk shit for weeks on end about how unorganized TFC is before the event happens and how you're boycotting it because it's going to flop and be terrible, only to have egg on your face afterward when it seems to go off without a hitch and most everyone has a good time. But shooting from the hip on subjects you're not even remotely informed on is just something that you do, and I'm certain that it's plainly obvious to any regular in this thread.

Do something constructive. I'm just so sick of moral grandstanding from people who refuse to either identify real problems or offer real solutions. It makes you look like you're just doing it for the sake of doing it, just doing it to bring others down to your misery for some incomprehensible reason, and not to actually make a difference. What is your contribution? If you can't do something, then tell someone who can what they should be doing, instead of just sitting there and saying over and over and over again that things suck without ever once clarifying what and why you're even complaining about in the first place. Seriously. I can't even find one good reason in the last few pages why we've suddenly relapsed into that tired old "the FGC should be more welcoming" song and dance. What is it about the events that aren't welcoming? It's a serious question; I'm not dismissing you, confrontational tone or not. I want an answer. I want a list of things I can work on. I want to work on them. I have the ear of a few people who could as well, if you'd just tell me what to do. I know that I'm too easy-going for my own good and slow to react on the spot, but I almost always work on things that I think I can make a difference on after the fact. I run a slightly tighter leash on hotel room streams after letting CORN get out of hand once. And even though it seems that I'm more lax when it comes to brackets than most other people, I'm nevertheless going to do what I can to push for more strict bracket running and transparency at Final Round this year, based on what's happened in the past. I can't promise results, as I'm just one cog in the machine, but I want to do something, and I'm open to more suggestions on things I'm not yet aware of. I don't expect to agree with every criticism either, but that's not even really here nor there right now because I hardly ever see any concrete criticism in the first place.

I seem to disagree a lot with AnneiFrank when it comes to behavior policy, but I have a ton of respect for her for getting out there, looking after her friends, having the best of intentions, and getting the ear of people in power to make a difference.

Contribute something. Actually let us know why your friends quit, so we might be able to snub the root cause if we can. Tell me who is being and asshole instead of just saying that people shouldn't be assholes. Tell me what problematic behavior is being promoted by TOs so that it can be addressed.

Or don't give anyone any actual material to work with and just keep throwing a wet blanket on things, if you prefer.

EDIT: I'm going to edit a few more KiT videos and then probably take a nap.

That's a lot of information given. All I can say is:
Who batch this is?
lol!

I just got the internet at my new place and am finally catching up on stuff (maybe I can finally play online again too). "Who bitch this is" really has no chance of making the thread title does it? I wasn't expecting to find that video so funny after reading this thread, sorry everyone.
