Hmm. Found this randomly lying outside by itself. Who Stitch this is?

Nice article on how capcom can improve CPT this year. Hopefully someone from capcom will read it and take some of the writer's points into consideration.

I read most of it, plenty of good points all around. The two main things I want to see addressed is qualifiers outside of the US and the Capcom Cup's format itself. Hopefully something can be done to get more ranking events in Asia and the rest of the world outside of US/EU because those two have plenty.

And though I'd love to see group play in at the next Capcom Cup, I doubt Capcom will go that route. They'll probably just do 3/5. It's a step up from last year but with the best players in the world in one place to play for such a large amount of money, I wish the luck of a short set wouldn't be such a big factor in a tournament such as this. Which is why I'd love it if Capcom Cup were a round robin or at least FT5 double elimination.

Pretty level headed article, although I don't remember downtime being that insane in between matches? With respect to other related points, I'm not sure if they need an analysis desk necessarily, but introducing variety in content in between matches is a good idea, and like the article mentions, SCR set a precedent that was more well received than most other risks taken in the FGC and we pretty much never saw that again. The stage set up was definitely the worst though; everyone walking by the commentators and shit.

I feel a lot of their other complaints are luxuries that aren't as easily afforded by the relatively smaller player base of the FGC, and stuff like on-the-spot translation is more time consuming than it might seem at first. Especially considering Zhi has a habit of forgetting to actually do the translating bit.

So what happened to WNF & TNR? =/ I miss having my weekly Marvel fix. I heard Watson tried to blow up the Illuminati/Evo/Mr. Wizard which made LevelUpLive part ways and then a week later he doesn't want to pay rent @ Super Arcade so now he has no arcade, like, what happened?

Watson claims that the split from LU had nothing to do with Wizard but had to do with the fact that LU got a pretty large chunk of the profits that came in from weeklys. Moreso than Watson felt was fair. The thing is, Valle made that business agreement with the previous owner of Super so it just carried over when Watson took over.

The rent thing I'm not clear about entirely. Just a really high rent I think and Watson couldn't afford it?

So Watson is currently looking for a new location.

Doubtful, you underestimate the population of Europe (~2.5x the US IIRC)

Sure Europe as a whole has a much larger population than the US, but from the looks of it the US has a much more active tournament scene. And we throw more "Major" tournaments which is why we had so many more ranking and premiere events for the Capcom Pro Tour last year. And for that same reason the system may remain broken because you can't give out more points to a certain region if there are no tournaments to receive those points. NA and Europe may combine for 30+ again while the rest of the world has 7 or maybe 8.

A lot of that is down to the difficulties of travel, we don't have that centered east coast/west coast scene from the arcade days (Arcades have never been a big thing for most of Europe), add in the language barriers and travel costs and you see the difficulties in running big tournaments.

There ARE a hell of a lot of smaller tournaments though, and the online scene is massive. Tekken in particular has a much bigger following here than most of the US.

The only way you'd really get to see more European players in worldwide tourneys is to allow for more online tournaments, and that brings its own heap of problems.

Explaining why there is less majors in EU almost needs an entire article to explain it all. There are so much points to take into accounts. It's not people are not motivated or because less players, it's something else.

I'd be kind of interested in hearing more, though.

There are a couple of spoooooooky pans and digital filters on minorities with fight sticks near the beginning (and I say that because they don't use any clear shots of people from the hands up until past the halfway point, no offense to your scene Enzo), and some green screen, but other than that it's pretty straightforward about the topic. More or less what you'd expect from ABC News.

But you didn't warn me about that stupid "Here to laugh at you" meme, tweet, thing, whatever.

Cringing so hard right now.

It's mostly that everything I've seen Sarkeesian put out pretty much gives me cancer.

Drove by Super on my way home from class yesterday and saw that the doors were open. Seemed like someone was taking stuff out.

Made me sad I didn't have a chance to go there more ;_;

No, I didnt want to walk all the way across the gym only to find out it wasn't him. Plus im not a fan. But he had the trademark povert cornrows, he was wearing gloves and the guy he was training with was wearing an EVO shirt.

Another typical peasant cowering in the presence of the glorious Empire Arcadia's aura.

I can't speak on behalf of anyone but really on y own experience and the people I know.....we just don't have the scene. To me, the has 3 very distinct tournament areas: London, Manchester and Scotland. It's not like the US where the the tournament scene is huge. We're really more of a small group of people within different locations. We rarely stream but when we do, it's more to do with streaming the rest of the EU(see Heart of Gaming) and to the outsiders can seem isolating. WGF was probably the only person to break this barrier with Armshouse, but the place it was being held in had to be shut down.

That being said the community is very tight knit. Tekken and KoF XIII(2012-2014) was huge here in London. Not to mention having close relations with France, Germany and Sweden means we have those types if players coming over. DoA and Smash players keep their scene alive and even the Anime scene.

The problem with the tournament scene is that well, it's not really a tournament place. Th support and turnout just seems to taxing to create. It's more about going to local places and playing there rather than hosting tournaments.
The Majors we have:
Super Versus Battle
Insomonia
Hypespotting

Again, I'm no talking for everyone but that's just how I see th UK/EU.
Electronicdojo.co.uk is the best places for upcoming tournaments. I think this also applies the rest of the EU. Not really a place for constant majors but there are their own country tournaments.

Would people watch if the EU frequent majors?

Noticed a lot of dudes playing Street Fighter in that Nightline report on GG whenever they needed footage of "stubborn male gamers" or whatever. Pretty harsh, poor FGC

edit: oh nvm I see you guys were already aware

Well Street Fighter is essentially. Women beating simulation. Kappa
Skullgirls is a game in which women learn to strengthen themselves (Big Band excluded)

Not to discount any of what you've said, becuase you ake very good points, but you're very UK-centric, as I guess most of us here are.

Red Fight District and Dreamhack are pretty huge tournies, but (and I'm generalising here) a lot of the US won't watch a stream unless it has US players or well known international guys fighting.

I'd imagine somone like Smug or Snakeyz getting bus' up like Louffy did at Meltdown would have made wayyyy more of an impact.

Yeah definitely talking about UK scene(and EU to some extent), and obviously there's RFD and DH but we all know about those. Those countries do have more major tournies but aren't known about and but I think it's because of what you said. I'm not trying to generalise here either but RFD and DH are well known because they have have the US and Asia players attending. Even I'm a part of the publicity problem. All I know about Australia is Shadowloo Showdown.

I think the US just embraces the competitive play to much higher level that the EU isn't that too bothered about. We don't stream our tourneys for one. I give credit to FSP posting EU news an updates but it's small on here. I don't think we even have a French or German GAFer on here.

I had no idea that there was a weekly Street Fighter in San Fran. Also, how do people have time to go to these weekly Street Fighter tournaments? I do like that they serve beer though and people were drinking between matches.

Triforce must be pretty big I remember hearing about him during a digital life event in NY where smash Bros melee was being played. One of my friends actually knew him. The kid I knew was known as DDRDiesel.
