All of the EVO announcements so far today:

Record Attendance as Competitors Duel for over $100,000 at the Evo 2012 World Finals

The 2012 EVO World Finals will host a record number of competitors and attendees hailing from over 40 countries, as thousands assemble to compete for championships across today’s hottest fighting games.

Thanks to generous support for the community from our sponsors, we’re pleased to announce record prizes, including $23,000 for Mortal Kombat, $15,000 for Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, and more!

“With Capcom celebrating its 25th Anniversary of Street Fighter this year, we thought it fitting that Evo’s Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition 2012 competitors should play for $25,000,” said Christian Svensson, Senior Vice President at Capcom. ”Capcom wouldn’t be where it is today without the support of our hardcore fans, and this is just the first of many exciting opportunities to help celebrate this milestone for the Street Fighter franchise.”

Here are the prize pools for all of the Evo 2012 tournaments. All these tournaments will pay out to the top 8 finishers.
$25,000 Super Street Fighter IV, Arcade Edition 2012
$23,000 Mortal Kombat 9
$15,000 Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
$15,000 for Sega’s Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown event (BYOC event)
$11,000 King of Fighters XIII
$9,000 Street Fighter X Tekken
$5,000 Soul Calibur V

Evo 2012 will be held July 6 – 8 at the Las Vegas Caesars Palace Hotel and Casino. The event is open to the public on July 6th and 7th. You can also tune in online at http://twitch.tv

Evo 2012 Tournament Brackets are Now Online!

Evo 2012 is just over one week away! The brackets are set, and it’s almost time to get down to business. You can find all of the tournament brackets here. These are brackets for all the pools, as well as the quarter and semi-finals. We will be updating these as the tournaments progress, so you can follow your favorite players as the fight for the championships.

Tournament players, you can check your pool assignments here.

Keep Up to Date at Evo 2012 with our Mobile App for iOS and Android!

Keeping track of everything going on at Evo can be tough. So this year we’ve partnered with the good folks at guidebook to produce a mobile app specifically for Evo 2012! The app is completely free and available to all. Here are some of the cool things we’ve piled into this thing:

-Complete schedule of all tournament pools and panels
-Check your tournament pool assignment
-Set reminders on your phone for scheduled events (like when your pool starts!)
-Live tournament updates
-Travel and Dining tips

The app is available now! To install it, scan the QR code here (if your phone has a QR reader), or head over to http://guidebook.com/g/evolution/

DIRECTIONS

1. Download Guidebook App from above link or QR code.
2. Go to "Download Guides" at the bottom.
3. Go to "Redeem Code" at the bottom.
4. Enter code "evolution2012".

Copying and pasting my own post from the last thread.

So using the power of math, here is a estimation of the number of players competing at each game at EVO.

SSF4AE 95 pools = 1520 players
UMVC3 78 pools = 1248 players
KOFXII 67 pools = 1072 players
SFxT 28 pools = 896 players(assuming it's 2 per slot)
SCV 26 pools = 406 players
MK9 19 pools = 301 players

Both AE 2012 and UMVC3 went up from last year despite having a shit ton of people already. But SSF4 from 2010 still holds the record for players in a single game. The exact figure was never stated, but people kept throwing out numbers from 1600 to 1700. Since MK9 got that e-sports money, I guess they don't feel like coming in droves. I remember MK9 being over 400+ last year, so that's a pretty sharp drop. SCV did about what I expected and that's a lot of shirts they're going to have to print out for all the KOF players. I also predict the number of people getting DQ'd in KOF at EVO will exceed the total number of MK9 players that are also competing at EVO.

But anyways, as you can see, the number of player pretty much lines up with the cash prize announced. Every game cost $10 to enter so 300 for MK+20k pot bonus is 23k. 1072 for KOF plus a few hundred bucks equals 11k. For those who want to applaud Capcom for adding money into the pot, it looks like only SF4 got real money. SFxT looks like it got nothing, UMVC3 got a few grand while SF4 got about 10k added to the total.

Wait I thought KOF had the second most entrants? Is it now 3rd due to last minute entrants or what?

Maybe Mr Wizard was joking or maybe it finally lost it's steam. My guess is that the number of people entering for the shirt had run its course and it slowed down to a halt while UMVC3 still had a number of people entering daily till the final day.

#EVO2012 numbers: SF4 1536, UMvC3 1248, KOF13 1072, SFxT 896 (these dont include byes), SC5 414 & MK9 291 (these include byes)

More exact numbers i guess, that's all.

There is no WSO UMVC3 on Armshouse this week. They're shifting to a one WSO a week format over the summer. Next Tuesday is UMvC3 3v3 teams.

Looks like Josh just did some math like me, for the first 4 games in your quote anyways. The only thing that's off is SF4, I counted 95 pools. So 95x16 should be 1520, just saying. But it looks like he at least took the time to count the byes for SCV and MK9 which had far less entrants than the other 4.

I would also like to say that I practically called these numbers. I don't remember the thread, but I think I said 1500 for AE, 1200 for Marvel and 800 for SFxT. Not that it was hard to estimate, but I'll take my credit anyways.

<300 players for 20k for MK?

Like I said before, 20k pot bonus + 300 players(at $10 per player) = 23k. MK by far got the biggest pot bonus added to there game with VF5 in 2nd and then SF4 in 3rd.

Doom and his TACs. This fucking game.

I mean, shit, can he TAC into his swag combos by himself now? lol

Little by little, I begin to hate myself more for loving Amaterasu instead of throwing Doom in on my second spot. :lol

That TAC glitch thing is fucking madness.

This is what I got counting byes and whatnot (assuming I didn't miss any)...

Mortal Kombat - 291
Soul Calibur V - 414
Street Fighter X Tekken - 448 (teams)
The King of Fighters XIII - 1,110
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 - 1,244
Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition Version 2012 - 1,517

This wasn't this week as per say (it was on Sunday) but Manchester, UK turned out in force for our ranking battle! The excellent SaikyoRB streamed it, and the footage from semis through to GF are below:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvamCRVWX_c

Which also reminds me - Manchester is hosting what's looking to be a relatively large (for the UK) one-day UMvC3 tournament this Saturday. Not sure of the exact numbers at the mo (curses, FGC tardiness!) but it's going to be streamed by SaikyoRB, *not* Armshouse like last time.

So - Manchester Battle Arena UMvC3 tournament, Saturday, stream starts at 12pm BST, www.twitch.tv/saikyorb.

Are you doing another Road to Evo thread this year, USD?

The one you did last year was absolutely amazing. It did a fantastic job of getting me up to speed with a bunch of majors that I missed.

Unfortunately won't be at EVO this year due to being out for training. :( Sucks too, since I'm actually from Vegas so I was hoping to take some leave from work a bit and go home too, lol

Good luck to everyone going!

jwong, combofiend, mago, marn, and others training in jwong's house atm

http://www.twitch.tv/eg_jwong

Marn and Mago looked like they almost gonna get in a fight, and Mago learning nothing but cursewords from Marn.

in fact, at one point mago beat Marn, got up and said "Lunch Asshole" and went to get a sandwhich. so much delicious e-drama

Okay, I've been way out of the loop for the past week or so. I heard about the Mags TAC infinite, but there's one for Trish, too?

Nice, thanks for getting it down to a exact number.

Trish infinite came out before Mags TAC infinite and it's using an exploit of the TAC system no one really knows yet. Using the exploit someone was able to replicate it for Magneto.

Ah, gotcha.

Of course the silliest mechanic in the game would lead to, well... more silliness.

You need two TACs inorder to get the infinite. That means the opponent has a 25% chance then another 25% chance to get out before the infinite starts.

FChamp is so happy.

Edit;
Wait, Phoenix has to wiff the a second TAC?

Wait, you have to TAC in a specific direction?

FChamp just did it.

He is claiming that you need to do a double TAC for it to work.

That greatly diminishes its practicality. There is some insane shenanigans going on here.

All that being discovery now?! Two weeks before EVO?! SO MUCH HYPE!
