Fighting Games Weekly | June 18-24

Aww yeah Evo 2012 is poised to be the most hype gaming event this year. My body is ready.
But man, why is the most hype game on stream aka marvel 3 only has 15k payout for top 8? Shenanigans I say

._.'

It's gonna be okay Sixforty.. we all get beat by iron mans.. never.

EDIT: I didn't notice, but there is an SBO quals in ATL, and nobody posted about it!
The fallout from this event really burned me up. Larry (Shinblanka from ATL Final Round) threw a ranking battle series for all six main EVO games with the intention of flying the winner of each game out to Japan to compete against their scene. Basically everyone in the region had their shot at becoming the American Kusoru in the game of their choice. And now this series is getting canceled after 2 months due to lack of attendance.

Sixteen people showed up for Marvel, at least 25% of them out-of-staters. That is pathetic. Shame on you for letting this opportunity pass you by, Atlanta.

That EVO news definitely deserves its own thread.

This EVO is going to be amazing. I can't even imagine what the thread is going to look like. Or threads I should say. USD you better be ready.

EVO prize pools

Totally serious: considering the sort of nonsense that's been funded to the heavens lately, I wish they'd set up a way to donate to the prize pools (outside of being a pot monster). Would like to see the world championships of the best competitive games in the world have prizes that would make esports blush.

Evo 2012 Tournament Brackets are Now Online!

Evo 2012 is just over one week away! The brackets are set, and it’s almost time to get down to business. You can find all of the tournament brackets here. These are brackets for all the pools, as well as the quarter and semi-finals. We will be updating these as the tournaments progress, so you can follow your favorite players as the fight for the championships.

Tournament players, you can check your pool assignments here.

Latif and Daigo are in the same pool!!!

Damn, that sounds really cool. Real shame that more people didn't show up. Even with my really bad play, I would have showed just for a chance to win a free trip out of the country. Maybe scrub my way to Grandfinals like I did in one Skullgirls tourney (although that was semifinals).

Mago has been back in the pack longer then Daigo. I wouldn't use either of them as a measure of top play any more, nor Tokido (in SF4)

The fact that nobody really knows where everybody sits until the day is what is making it pretty exciting for me. I'm expecting another Fuudo type winner.

That's what I was alluding to. There is no certain best of the best player. It is whoever has a hot streak going at the moment. But it's pretty much within a handful of people.

And LOL at the people trying to look at the pics.

Forget Evo threads I'll be IRCing it up all day. You should do the same!
Illuminati chat for me.
hmmhmh but everyone is gonna be there so yeah... no one to chat with.

Where's the Korean Machine?

I didn't see him when I went through the pools. I might have missed him since I wasn't looking for him though.

If you don't see anyone you think you should see on this list, it might be because I missed them. Going through all of these brackets is pretty monotonous...

Mepu, the female Sagat player is coming :O

This is the girl that Sabin was talking about when he was in Japan. I still remember how she asked Art to not take any pictures of her because she was afraid of people stalking her or something like that. Here is an idea of what she looks like.

Amazingly just about every girl from that tournament was hot. I think Choco Blanka won this tournament over Mepu and that's how she first became known.

Also someone with a smartphone get ready to live stream some matches privately to GAF if twitch goes down during EVO.

So using the power of math, here is a estimation of the number of players competing at each game at EVO.

SSF4AE 95 pools = 1520 players
UMVC3 78 pools = 1248 players
KOFXII 67 pools = 1072 players
SFxT 28 pools = 996 players(assuming it's 2 per slot)
SCV 26 pools = 406 players
MK9 19 pools = 301 players

Both AE 2012 and UMVC3 went up from last year despite having a shit ton of people already. But SSF4 from 2010 still holds the record for players in a single game. The exact figure was never stated, but people kept throwing out numbers from 1600 to 1700. Since MK9 got that e-sports money, I guess they don't feel like coming in droves. I remember MK9 being over 400+ last year, so that's a pretty sharp drop. SCV did about what I expected and that's a lot of shirts they're going to have to print out for all the KOF players. I also predict the number of people getting DQ'd in KOF at EVO will exceed the total number of MK9 players that are also competing at EVO.
