Firebrand and Dorm aren't good partners?

Are you fucking serious?

Zak's inability to do good damage with Firebrand is obvious.
That's not a fault of Zak. Firebrand tops out at 400K meterless damage alone. It's an impossibility to do high damage with Firebrand without expending meter hence why he has devious mix ups and an unblockable set up.

His team is one of the best Firebrand teams constructed easily.

You misunderstood him. His problem is that Firebrand and Dorm work excellently together as long as Firebrand is on point and Dorm is after him (Firebrand doesn't do much for Dorm that is obvious) but there is no character that both allows Firebrand to do unblockables while also allow Dorm to play the zoning game especially at the super jump space. Hidden Missiles is the closest but he doesn't like Doom. Ammy is godlike for Firebrand but for Dorm it's not a great zoning assist and Karsts love zoning assists. There are legit DHC synergies between the two especially set ups that allow Dorm to power up his spells off of Firebrand confirms not to mention the double Bon Voyage DHC unblockable set up.

His problem is coming up with a 3rd partner for the team and in the event that he ends up with Dorm first and Firebrand at the back.

Your team seems to be very unique, how did you go about building it?

I settled on my current team (Firebrand/Dormammu/Amaterasu) very early on, and to be honest I got pretty lucky with choosing this team without putting much thought into many other possibilities. The latter 2 characters I generally enjoyed using, and the pairing of Dormammu and Amaterasu made more and more sense to me as I practiced, and I still find ways to make them a stronger duo even today. I've been a fan of the Ghouls n' Ghosts series from a young age, so Firebrand was a no-brainer. I was thrilled to discover various ways in which Firebrand gains support from the rest of the team, and since then I've only taken advantage of their synergy more and more

Zak on his team.

Isn't Japan coming to the FGTV house today?

I wish Yipes would let all the international players go to Curleh Mustache 4.

Checking out the LevelUp archives, and I gotta say:

I got a real kick out of Mago and Bala commentating some of the KOF matches. Bala is really good at commentating in Spanish (would actuallty choose him over TheAnswer, who just kinda hanged back when put in the spotlight at CEO when asked to do SAP commentary). Just really chill and laid back while riffing on Mago. :p

Bala - "Oh yeah, sure Mago. Elizabeth won that match. What do you think of that, eh? Tell me your thoughts, sir"
Mago - "Ummmm, okay lol."

EDIT: lol, Bala even put Chris G on blast. "Oh, I won? That's cool..."

NO MAMES, GUEY. Mago lo dijo!

He made a shoutout to the Japanese players at CEO asking if any of them wanted to get into the invitational. They might go since they're prolly tagging along with the FGTV until EVO.

Oh fuck yes.

BTW, these Zak Bennett sets are fantastic. A lot of unfortunate drops from Zak though, costing him some games.

CM 4 doesnt have an event since Knives vs Rog isnt happening. He could easily do USA vs the World event right there. Theres EC/WC at CM and UK/Japan

Firebrand/Dorm work great together for Firebrand. Karst is really picky in his characters. Unlike most of us. I just have a no trench coat rule for my team.

I just saw the Zak Bennet archives and he did really well there. He beat Neo convincingly, ROFL stomped CJShowstopper and was beating FChamp's Phoenix team quite well before he had to switch out to his Dorm team. Fanatiq downloads anything in a long set and his idea of dealing with Ammy really broke apart the team synergy on that team and the crazy Firebrand mix ups. Fanatiq is too smart man, this nukka can download anything.

In a 2/3 or 3/5 match Zak Bennet can definitely hang with the best of them and he was definitely doing new combos and tech. Even Karsts would be taking notes. Very pleased with his performance.

DEM MIX UPS GET ME HARD!!!!!

Firebrand's fuzzy guard bull with Ammy's cold star assist mucking up the screen looks like the most confusing thing to try and block.

I would just be baffled the entire time I'm playing.
I'd love to see a complete breakdown of all the characters used in Marvel at Evo. Wonder if there will even be a single Phoenix Wright.
Maybe if Basicsausage or that one Texas player goes. Basic seems really busy with work though.

Lol at trying to block that. Its a 50/50 as its an instant overhead or a fast low both give you at best 4 to 5 frames to react. And his over head works on just about any character size.

You also have to worry about throw resets and the occasional unblockable.

And theres a bounty on Phoenix Wright if someone makes top 8 with him.

I still feel that Firebrand/Dorm isn't that good of a partnership, Zak is reliant on Stalking Flare for Firebrand's unblockable and that is a lot easier to escape using raw tag/letting Stalking Flare hit than Cold Star/Tenderizer/Task up arrows/Repulsor Blast. Then his damage output for a Firebrand/Dorm DHC is terrible and Zak's inability to do good damage with Firebrand is obvious. To me while Zak is obviously a very good player I am still not convinced he has a better Firebrand than someone like Marvisto, and possibly Toki.

Zak rarely used the Stalking Flare unblockable, if you rewatch the archives he opened up Neo twice on his point character more often than not, pretty easily I might add, leading to a character death.

Saying he's reliant on Stalking Flare is being disingenuous to him, because his Firebrand was blowing stuff up other than Fanatiq downloading him in 2 games exactly the same way as Rayray.

Firebrand also has one of the stupidest instant overheads in the game, but it seems like you're fixated on damage.

He can also cross up with M Dive during that particular mix up.

The biggest problem with firebrand/dorm is that you have no neutral assist. Zak himself even that that was the main reason he lost some games. I personally run the same team but I have Dr.Doom in the middle instead for the neutral game assist (plasma beam or hidden missiles are both excellent) and Doom has stronger TAC combos. I feel it's important for whoever you're playing against to fear TACs when you're playing as firebrand since it makes his reset game better. Will I go for a TAC or will I go for the air reset?

I don't think natiq downloaded him in 2 games. I mean yes Zak has some tech but Natiq has a lot of firebrand experience under his belt period. I think he was just trying to hype up the set for stream monsters.

Zak also doesn't just use stalking Flare for the unblockable, he uses Dorms meteors and calls ammy so he can have enough time to hard tag in firebrand and finish the setup.

Its the sort of thing you have to have seen before. I was thinking just hold up back when you see the set-up coming, but if he anticipates that then you're open for the unblockable. Fanatiq popping xfactor and air dashing out with Storm in the brief moment when Cold Star assist ends and Firebrand just finishes charging was brilliant.

I'd imagine Firebrand would have a real hard time against Haggar teams.

Firebrand isn't just about the unblockable. The characters who can get out of his set ups firebrand has no trouble getting in on them and pressuring them. Just look at how free doom was for brand. If you are wasting x factor to get out of his set ups, mission accomplished now you are free to dorm chip.

People are reading too much in the match results of fanatiq and fchamp vs zak to see the bigger picture. Dude came from a non American marvel scene and was put into the grinder against the top marvel players in the world who spend all day in the hyper bolic time chamber while each of his move and tech was analyzed on stream and the residents of fgtv..... All after coming from a long ass flight trip all jet lagged and shit. He did way better than I thought he would and he has gotten better since the last I saw him. There is nothing wrong with his team, characters or marvel play.

Who is hating

All I'm doing is talking about potential outs when Firebrand puts you in his fuzzy guard blender. I know Firebrand can open you up otherwise, but that wasn't what I was talking about.

Where is the Hsien-Ko bounty at

I was just talking in general not at any particular person or anything. I still think zak is going to have it very rough at evo especially since he isn't really seeded.

OMG just watching through the CJToiletclogger vs Zak Bennet set.....

There is no tier of free that is free enough to describe the ownage that went down. I think Zak Benneted perfected him like 6-7 times in that FT15 set. The best was when Zak Bennet was on a verge of a guaranteed perfect but wanted to style/troll on CJ with the Firebrand LVL3 (completely garbage LVL3).

Holy crap.

Can you give me the exact time of the Toiletclogger set?

Wasn't Karst having major trouble trying to build a team with both of them?
No way, I'm just picky as hell about my characters I use. There are tons of excellent Firebrand/Dormammu teams. My frustration was coming from finding a third that really goes well with Dormammu, because I want it to be a Dormammu team, not a Firebrand team. Zak Bennet's team is fantastic, but I don't think Cold Stars is a great assist for Dormammu - it's good, but not great.

That's not a fault of Zak. Firebrand tops out at 400K meterless damage alone. It's an impossibility to do high damage with Firebrand without expending meter hence why he has devious mix ups and an unblockable set up.

Agreed entirely. I was ecstatic when I found a team combo with Firebrand that does 416K meterless. That's seriously "high damage" for the guy. Dormammu is almost essential for Firebrand to "give him damage".

All very well said, especially that last part. It sucks when Doom gets snapped in, because Firebrand and Dormammu both have bad assists.

He built a team with them and it works.

It works too well.
Haha, thanks.

Firebrand/Dorm work great together for Firebrand. Karst is really picky in his characters. Unlike most of us. I just have a no trench coat rule for my team.
Yeah, I'm super picky. No one should confuse my general ability to put good teams together with my inability to find a team I want to play - I'm not making my team off of synergy alone. I'm pretty happy with where my team is outside of fighting Zero and Vajra, though.

Dat Firebrand is out of this world.

Best Firebrand? Best Firebrand.
Best Firebrand, but he also doesn't have a lot of competition. I'm especially impressed by his wall clings (so fast you don't even know he clings) and Firebrand runaway. In a match against Neo using XF3 Doom, the Firebrand runaway was just spectacular. Glad to see him using the fireball -> Luminous Body setup. Surprise he keeps TACing to Dormammu for the unblockable instead of using my setup. There were a few times it was his optimal choice.

Firebrand isn't just about the unblockable. The characters who can get out of his set ups firebrand has no trouble getting in on them and pressuring them. Just look at how free doom was for brand. True, but Bennet's play wasn't off from how he usually is. It's just really tough for Firebrand to deal with Magneto + Missiles/Sentinel Force.

Edit: I was also really impressed by Bennet's use of Ammy's whip. He also has a really thoughtful and interesting follow-up when a Purification lands that gives me food for thought.

19:30ish. Before that is the Neo set and Zak really dismantled Neo's team too. Wesker was basically useless in both of those sets, Firebrand ate him for breakfast.

Also Zak was doing combo extenders with Dorm using the Firebrand Demon Missile assist. He was also using Dark Hole for combo extenders plus his Firebrand BnB into Breath into Stalking Flare into 2C1D into Flame Carpet + Demon Missile + Black hole is solid ass damage.

everybody talking about firebrand/dorm: The best assist to use in that case is Jam Session. There really isn't anything that is as good for dorm as it is for firebrand as that. I just don't think people want to learn other firebrand mixups besides unblockable ......

zak loves his ammy comebacks though, so it makes sense why he keeps ammy on the team.

I also noticed two more interesting things Bennet is attempting:
1) TK fireball L into fireball M to cover both aspects of the screen. It was interesting in zoning fights, at least.

2) Linking some Firebrand combos into his level 3 and continuing with fireball inputs between him and the helper. It never seemed to do him any good, but I wonder what he's up to with that thought process.

Dante is another good choice for a third.

Kartsticles, what you think of Firebrand, Doom, Ammy?

What's your team now btw?
Sounds like a fine team to me.

I use Firebrand/Dormammu/Morrigan, same as since Ultimate was released. I've just gone on a few detours to explore other options. I'm very happy with sacrificing an assist for absurd meter generation, though.
