Fighting Games Weekly | May 13-19 | Throwing coins

I see that ECT is this weekend, has anything of note happened in the last week or so?
Been in a Diablo vortex.

Completely unrelated, but RE6 is on sale at Gamefly today only for $9.99. We have two $5 coupons for Gamefly (that you get for being a member), and I just had a legitimate 5 minute conversation with my wife as to whether or not we wanted the game for free. That's actually kind of depressing.
Injustice got moneyhatted into EVO and there was a Marvel glitch involving snapbacks found where you can have 2 point characters, with a bunch of caveats. Also a glitch where Haggar bodies the game.

I thought he was fine. With the execution barrier he was kept in check. Making him slightly worse and considerably easier to use was a huge turn off for me.
He wasn't that execution heavy, most of the character's difficulty comes from Bold cancel stuff which is still in tact. He is still not an easy character to play.

The execution barrier didn't balance him at all in Vanilla. You could do day 1 combos with Dante and still kill with meter positive. There was no thought required in mashing QCF + L in the air and also calling invincible assist to cover your slow normals assist. In fact lowering his damage and removing Hammer invincibility promoted thoughtful and skillful Dante play because now you have to do optimized combos, have better hit confirms and have a better neutral game utilizing a wider range of his moves.

I agree but its kind of sad to see MK being a "side game" at ECT (if I heard correctly) ECT has a long history with the MK community.

It's looking pretty low for CEO as well not just ECT and other places. MK interest has nearly completely died since Injustice has come out since it's most of the same players. Nobody can fault any organizer for making it a side game or not focusing it as much when Injustice is nearly tripling the number of registered for it.

Well let me rephrase. My issue wasn't his moves getting nerfed. It was making his imputs easier. I just didnt like a character that has so many options becoming more user friendly. I didnt care about the hammer nerf..the only thing that bugged me was his normals getting a couple extra frames..which ended up not being a big deal. I still use him but he just feels much less interesting if that makes any sense?

Remove the ability to block after bold move, but enable him to Bold Cancel everything, including specials! Also let him cancel into moves after the jump instead of having 11 frames of recovery.
lol

Also, Drive is pretty durable as is. No real need to buff it. Unless they want to make it more like Mystic Sword.
*HUG* I love that you are supporting my one suggested nerf.

I wish he could cancel Bold immediately. I had an idea once to go into Devil Trigger and spam Vortex by using Bold to get off the ground. No go. :-(

Drive also has a hitbox behind it and catches teleporters, so it has some special utility (or so I read).

And I am saying Dante is actually harder to win with now as compared to before and thus is a more interesting character because he has less derpy stuff.

Vanilla Iron Man wasn't really a more interesting character because you had to do Rekkas to access his Repulsar Spread, it was an inconvenience rather than an execution barrier. His hit confirms and movement was the challenge in the character.

Its Kat Gunn meh

Boo this man

anyways have we talked about the twitch app on xbl? this is big news

Gold only, US only and only top 300 channels? What is there to say? Twitch and Microsoft made another garbage app, well done to them.

That katgun stream...

<Mod> No talking about boobies or jiggling.

<Skisonic> They put some clothes on!!!

Skisonic gets banned afterwards lol

I disagree. He still has basically the same opening opportunities except now its much easier to do combos that were at least semi challenging before. Considering the context of the game we're talking about that goes a long way.

I'd gladly give up bold block to be able to cancel Bold Move once he jumps.
It'd be a stealth buff!

And above! It hits Strider out of his teleports all the time, even though it looks like it should miss.

The edited version of this song sounds so weird

How am I supposed to do the last two if I can't do the first 4?

Injustice is the new hotness. Looks more likely that SG will beat MK9's numbers now that the number of people playing the patched edition has doubled.

*braces for a beefy pun*
You're lucky I'm too tired from helping my uncle build a fence today. I got nothing.
Hey Guys, just letting you know I'll be doing a CEO Q&A on my stream tonight(Tuesday) at 9pm EST on www.twitch.tv/ceogaming.

For CEO I manually update my Registration database and you can watch me and chat with me and others while I do so while I talk about how I put CEO together and other stuff. Join me if you'd like.

I want to become a part of the NEOGAF Family and with that, I welcome you all into the Mind of Jebailey.

Don't want this to get buried on the last page.

Somehow we have to get the Corporation music playing for Mr. Wizard as he walks onstage somewhere.

Not having an invincible special move he can throw out willy nilly is the big difference. That's what got him a lot of hits, he would beat out your move with his.

Who cares about easier combos? Dante's combo were never prohibitively difficult nor are they brain dead Fisher price combos now . They are easier to do in certain parts but not to the point where the character as a whole is easier to play.. not by a long shot. Combos are just a fraction of what it takes to play a character.

It sucks how the app is only available in the US. I'm probably better off buying a hdmi cable and hook up my laptop to the tv.

Everyone cares about easier combos. Is that not how you get damage? The more variables are involved the easier it is to fuck it up?

Any word from Jaxel about doing The Break tonight?
EDIT: Also, I made a new avatar, but what's the best site to size correctly a png?

Hammer still has invincibility, wtf is everyone talkin about

they just cut it to just the start up , in line with almost every invincible special in history of fighting games

You can get big damage from easy combos or from DHCs (Spiral Swords) or with XF/meter. Your toolset is way more important than how difficult your combos are.

Uh a lot of specials have invincibility after startup vulnerability (incredibly stupid, but they're there).

Yea yea we know about the invincibility change. The change was still drastic given how much stuff you were allowed to get away with it. Dante players would trade easier combos for fully invincible Vanilla Hammer without a thought.

And apparently Injustice sold 400K in US. Very solid numbers.

The execution barrier didn't balance him at all in Vanilla.

Try telling that to the ones who think vanilla Wolvie and Phoenix are the worst derps in fighting game history. Vanilla Dante had always been relatively fair compared to those 2, vanilla Wesker and vanilla Magneto. He's popular but the amount of vanilla Dante players who stood out and were highly successful with him could be counted in one finger (PR Rog, Josh Wong, Richard N, maybe Yipes). Even in vanilla he has always been strong but the amount of cheap, ridiculously unfair things he has pales in comparision to others. The invincible hammer is probably about it, the hitboxes of his normals is derp too but it's balanced by how slow they are.

While in UMvC3 they had nerfed the Hammer, his damage and the Hitboxes, with those nerfs he's about as fair as you can get. Which in MvC terms makes him pretty mid-low tier if not for his value as a team character.
