This is pretty much "no fucking duh" but it's nice to be read in a major news outlet.

Survey: Net file-sharing doesn't hurt most musicians

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- Most musicians and artists say the Internet has helped them make more money from their work despite online file-trading services that allow users to copy songs and other material for free, according to a study released Sunday.

Sorry if old.

I haven't seen the article yet, but I'm really not surprised.

While I'm not an expert and haven't really read any studies suggesting as such, I'd imagine the only people being hurt by file-sharing are the megastars that litter top-40 radio.

It's anecdotal, but I've spent several hundred/maybe thousand dollars on CDs from bands that I first heard through the internet. For the real musicians out there, file-sharing is helpful because it gives them a chance to be recognized. For the rest, it gives people a chance to realize the CDs you hear on the radio are rarely worth purchasing.
