I've never gotten well enough along with a Filipino woman to date her, regardless of whether she's an immigrant or lived here for ages. Always too serious, no sense of humour.

Just realized that what I said made no sense. I meant "an immigrant or lived here for ages" – edited now.

My humour would be considered odd.

Anyone know where I can download filipino shows?
Theres Pinoytv but its just youtube streaming.

The site I downloaded Lobo from is no longer existing. I'll check what we have here. What shows are you into? Juan Dela Cruz? LOL

That's odd. they're fun to be with. Maybe there was some sort of cultural barrier. But sometimes, they can be a pain. No to mention accompanying them to their sport -Shopping

Last time i visited was 5 years ago, Katipunan is a mess...sobrang traffic. Ateneo seemed a lot smaller...but maybe because i got bigger since moving to the US

I have been in 7 relationships with Filipinas and I mostly have bad experiences. To me, they take everything too personal and drama can always be created out of nothing. But it depends like everything.

I've certainly gotten into some trouble with my wife over my sense of humor, more than a couple times. She took what I said super-serious and blew it out of proportion and...it sucks when it happens. She blames it on me, too! "You Americans, you don't got good sense of humor..."
I'm like "Oh c'mon, I'm funny as shit. Don't be so pikon."

I have glanced past this thread many times and even posted in it a couple times (even though I am not pinoy), but somehow last night I was scrolling through the OT, saw this thread, and thought it said "Filipino-Girls get in here!!!!!"
I was like "Hey now" and immediately clicked, somehow thinking there was going to be a post full of pics.
-_-
Pretty disappointed in my reading skills after that.

all I can say is I want to get out of the country for like 3 months because of the summer heat. :/ it's like 8 PM in here and the temperature is still 36 C
I hated the temperature when I was there and that was October temperatures.
Which makes me crazy, because I have decided that once we have money saved up and we are a bit older, we are moving to Tagaytay. Why would I move to country with tropical weather like that if I hate heat and humidity?

It's currently -17 C where I am and I am loving it. I went home to visit the wife on the East Coast (South Carolina) in February and it was in the 60s (so 15 degrees C I guess) and I was dying...

Yep, it depends. But the drama thing is pretty spot on. I once got in a "fight" coz I borrowed her notes from a class she took before me and I didn't have time to return her notebook coz of other final exams and work. We weren't even really dating then, but it was at that point I realized how far we've come and that the future might not be good for us lol.

Foreshadowing is real!

Any Atenistas in the thread? I miss my old school....

Does graduating grade school count? Haha.

Regarding the weather, I honestly would rather be there than spending summer here in Texas. Everyday is at least 100F/38C and that is pretty damn hot. I'd take the rain and humidity over the scorching heat.

I don't think I can take the weather in the Philippines.

Not only the weather, but the smog, as well as the smell of the streets.

it's not that bad...

i remember the first couple times i went there, i kept getting rashes because of the weather. went to baguio for a couple of days (where it's cooler) and i was fine lol

Went back to Mindanao a few years ago around December and it was HUMID as fuck lol. Had fun though, I'm whitewashed but I lived there when I was younger and moved since my mom remarried. But yesss the food was so good. Beer was cheap and everything!

Making out series is nice and informative if I base it from the Japanese version. I'll see if I can check out the Tagalog version.

I'm half Filipino myself and I absolutely love the country and have an immense amount of interest in learning the language but this is what I'm talking about when I say I'm sick of the "pinoy pride":

Facebook image

The "funny" (terrible) thing is, that most of them comment how proud they all are to be pinoy because the last standing house after a terrible earthquake were made by Filipino materials - in fact, a whole bunch of them don't even comment about the victims at all.

The is very true! It was from Bandila last night and i search for more info. Proudly made Pino

Wowwww we r proud to be a pinoy jejeje

Followed by hundreds more that's even worse.

This is an attitude I see out there as welll 99% of the time.

To my knowledge, the materials are made by a Japanese firm located in the Philippines and the workers are Filipino.

But I am thankful that one house survived, if they had just used the same materials with all the other houses.

As a matter of fact, in the last couple of months I have heard close ones say, that it's good the Filipinos are everywhere because the world can see, that they are the most kind people in the world.

Then there's playing the God card, too. Not to bash religion, but I'm getting sick of being told to pray to get what I want. No thanks.

Today, the TV was on GMA while I was having lunch and there's this TV show with a kid, and she asked about whether or not she could win an award, and the adult answers her: "if you pray, it will happen." Haha, no. That's just bad advice to tell a kid.

Random question: There's a filipino fast food place I go to that has this dish that's spinach and chicken with a coconut sauce over it. Is there a specific name for this? Is it even a filipino dish?

Something you have to understand about Filipino dishes? Everything's a mix of anything.

This is what is actually scaring me about the Philippines. Everyone is beginning to have an inflated sense of pride. I have been noticing this since Jessica Sanchez lost in American Idol. They think everyone is against them.

They also think that no one other than Filipinos has a sense of family. I had a talk about this over a conservative fellow who told me that there are so many broken families in the West, and that the Philippines was the last bastion of complete families. Having been an exchange student several times (different programs in different lengths), I begged to disagree, saying that the host families I've been in to were wonderful and had a very strong sense of families, even when the family was not one in a traditional sense. He threw a fit on me saying I didn't know anything and I was too young to understand.

Just ranting out there.

By the way, did anyone go to the Filipino Dialogue thing at Harvard a week ago? I knew it catered to college students but just really curious. It was nice seeing Filipino-Americans and really getting to know their perspective on being a Filipino and American at the same time. It still blows my mind until today.

It's easy to be the "last bastion of complete families" when the government makes it absolutely difficult to separate legally.

You're gonna love this, Anastacio.

So, I was watching CNN and what's happened in Boston with some people, and they were playing the footage up close on what happened, and one of the people near me got excited seeing the Philippine flag in the footage. No comment on the bombings or anything.

"Hey, look, it's the Philippine flag. There it is again," in this semi-excited tone.

Annoyed the fuck out of me.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
A lot of my friends are talking about Solaire and shit and how it looks great. Has anyone been there? I don't gamble anyway.

Am I the only Filipino with a minor distaste for the culture?

Half-Filipino, I mean I enjoy the food... can't say I like the language, high-Catholic community, and the Philippines in general though.

I dislike aspects of the culture, but I can't wholly hate it. There are still things I like.

Though, most of the reasons you've brought up are some of the things I hate.

Heh, why am I not surprised. Funny thing is, the only one who has a flag up on the wall in my class of 30 students is the filipina. ^_^

As a half-Filipino I like the food and the places you can go to in the Philippines.

Hmm, what do you I do when I am sitting with a whole lot of Filipinos and I don't understand what they're saying or any of their jokes? What do you do?

Cause I really don't like that situation. =/

Hey, how are you guys? Senate Election has ended last Monday and the votes are coming in. Partial results are in :

http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/eleksyon2013

My wife, from Lucban, is elated with their local election. Apparently the previous mayor was corrupt as fuck, which did not surprise me at all when she mentioned it. The new Mayor supposedly is a pretty keen person.

My Facebook "am explode" with all the Aquino and Binay and Poe posting and griping. Again, its no wonder when your people are obsessed with celebrity to a factor that would make Americans cringe. You keep electing people on the basis of fame, you reap what you sow.
