A white undershirt is acceptable. Most chinos are just comfy to wear under a barong. You can put a twist on it by wearing a colored shirt that blends with the barong's color.

Did you try it with a small amount of lemon juice? It's makes it even more "pop" to it.

I did, it certainly gave it more oompah.

It's still a local dish though, and is damn delicious.

it is, I had a filipino nanny growing up and when I would be bad she would punish me by with holding or sometimes cancelling pansit night...

Canton, malabon, habhab, mahal kita no brownout!

Not sure what you're saying....but yes.

Mieu

Member
Canton is the traditional chinese stir fried noodles.

Malabon has thick rice noodles and is topped with an orange sauce and a mix of seafood eggs and pork.

Palabok is similar to malabon but has like angel hair pasta.

Habhab is stir fried noodles with lots of onions and strips of pork. Normally drizzled with suka.

Pansit is very versatile and can accommodate different ways of cooking. The same can be said for adobo. LoL

Mahal Kita is a famous motel that serves really good pansit. Well, most motels actually do. Victoria Court and Orchids serve it right.

I met him here in Copenhagen at a bar, but he's in the Philippines now. He just gave me his phone number cause he wants to spend time with me.

Is he still popular? I should watch some of his work.

LMAO. I dunno about his popularity but good luck, man!

What are people's impression of him though? I know nothing about this guy, other than he is bakla and did comedy on GMA. Maybe I shouldn't spend time with him? He seemed to be pretty nice.

As far as I know, he's a kind hearted gay guy. I think he stil does comedy shows while managing his bars.

I don't want to assume his hitting on you but maybe he just likes you haha!

He says I can stay at his place if I'm around Manila. I'll probably go there with my cousin. And nope, he's not flirting, he just seems to be a nice guy.

He is very very popular. People always see him on Eat Bulaga, the top noontime show on local tv. People always thought he is a nice person.

Hey guys, the iOS game I worked on has soft-launched in the Philippines. I would appreciate it if any of you could download it (it's FREE) and let me know if there are any major technical issues.

App Store link

If you're not into free-to-play games, don't feel obligated to play through it. This is mostly a sanity check to see if people can actually run the game. We're a small studio based in Canada so we don't have many resources to check this kind of thing. Thanks!

There's no Ateneo in Greenhills... You might be thinking of La Salle

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Coron (Palawan) >>>> Boracay

It's serene, not much people, very nature-y and isn't commercialized like Boracay.

I found Boracay to be really dull the times I have been there. I were actually bored but maybe I weren't in the right state of mind.

I like Coco Beach, but it's a "Danish" Island, so there's a ton of tourists though.

Guys, you should come join the Miss Universe thread, and help me update the people about her. :)

Kind of a serious question but... for those who are registered voters in the Philippines, who will you vote for the upcoming presidential election?

I'm not a registered voter but I'm leaning towards Mar Roxas. I was rooting for Miriam Santiago but she chose Bong Bong Marcos as her running mate which says a lot about her. Never liked Binay or Duterte because the former is a corrupt politician and the latter is a human rights violator and a misogynist. Mar Roxas is on hot fire right now because of his extremely poor PR and for being an 'elitist' but I guess that's all of his cons?? He's tolerable. i dont really know about Grace Poe lol she's my 2nd choice.

Unfortunately, I think either Binay or Duterte might win. Their PR are leaning towards the masses. Binay was or still is visiting different provinces to gain approval. While Duterte's supporters want drastic changes that's why they want Duterte to be the president. I mean, yea, I also want change but can the people handle the change? Do Filipinos really have to have an ironclad president who bends the law to his will? We have to obey the law but only he (I'm referring to Duterte mostly lol) has the right to kill people at will? Do we really need a president who instills fear just for us to be disciplined?

lol i don't really know. I'm kind of scared for the country for the following years (or decades if Duterte goes batshit crazy with all his newfound power and impose martial law) haha

Shit, that Duterte guy sounds scary as fuck.

I'm gonna buy this if they hit the newsstands. Last month's was AlDub haha

@politics

Pinoys want change but dont have the will to chang themselves. There's no discipline.

Mar has been doing political PR suicidal moves lately and his vision for the country ain't that strong.

A lot of corruption has tainted the government. I mean, we get taxed around 32% of our salaries then politicians can get away with overpriced buildings.

Not to mention a lot of services and food have an additional 12% when you buy them. Double tax whammy!!

There will never be true change with the way the current system works imo. It has been the same faces, the same political clans, the same "circle of friends", the same shit that we see running in the elections and seated in government offices. Philippine politics just won't get out of the hell hole if these same people still have the huge chunk of political power.

Reading this thread makes me sad that so many Filipinos and not a single mention of Camiguin which IMO is the best place to go in the entire country.

Even as a foreigner who doesn't live there (yet) I can clearly see this happening and it's so deeply embedded in the culture that most Filipinos don't care about it because in their words "we get used to it" which is the saddest thing.
They have bullet scams and taxi scams at Manila airport before you even get into the country properly ffs(which was promptly silenced in the news).

Anyway, what I have noticed is that the further away from Manila you are, the more enjoyable the country becomes and the less corruption there is. I am constantly getting told by Filipinos that the president doesn't even have control of Manila never mind Luzon or the rest of the country, obviously as a white westerner it's not advisable for me to go wandering around Mindanao(even in Cebu I get told this by taxi drivers) too much so I cannot comment on that part but certainly in Cebu and Camiguin it's easy to see.

I don't want this post to be taken the wrong way at all, I'm not diminishing the people, just the government corruption, the people are the friendliest I have ever met, I have a Filipina fiancee from Camiguin and it's truly a place where I feel at home.

If only our people in general had the discipline and honor of the Japanese, South Koreans, Singaporeans and Malaysians. Heck even Vietnam is quite a bit more developed I'd say.

Not a registered voter myself but would've gone with Poe or Santiago maybe but I'm a little concerned about her health issues as of late.
Pretty much dislike the rest of the candidates. Mar clings too much in the 'ipagpatuloy natin ang daang matuwid' thing that Aquino started. His advertisement makes me cringe. Same with Binay.

If Duterte does win, those people who voted for him better not whine when drastic changes take effect.

Oh, no it's not in his platform (I'm not sure but if he became president, drastic changes will happen and I don't think the Philippines is ready for it). He was the mayor of Davao for so many years now (20 years, I think? I'm not sure) and he's just very strict. But uhm... I think these articles sum it up.

Duterte forces smoking tourist to swallow cigarette butt and 'I could've died if I didn't touch her'

Yeah. I'm worried about Santiago's health, too. She's actually an excellent politician and it's sad that she has Stage 4 lung cancer. I'm also worried if Santiago and Marcos win. If Santiago *ahem* passes away, then Marcos will take her spot which is a big no-no. It's actually fine for me if he acknowledged what his father's dictatorship meant to a lot of Filipinos, but he doesn't. He glorifies what his father did. We can't have another Martial Law period.

Actually, I changed my mind about Mar Roxas lol. I remembered recently that he was the one who said that if Japan can handle natural disasters, then let all the natural disasters go to them instead of the Philippines which is a pretty nasty thing to say. Good thing the relations between Philippines and Japan are good.

But isn't Marcos' dictatorship seen good upon? I have not met a Filipino, who despises what Marcos did back then, and everyone I ask, loves what he did and think he's one of the greatest presidents the country have had.

Many of them are older people, who did live under him. But the young people, are also teached to love him in their school etc. Marcos really is the best thing that happened when I ask them, and I'm not only asking family, I also ask the people who live around there.
Maybe many of them feel, that because Marcos were Ilocano (were he?), they will want to support him.

Can a kind soul list all of the candidates, and the dates for voting etc.? I got really interested in the politics now, thanks. :)

better check this info

http://www.hotmanila.ph/content/tyranny-and-dictatorship/5-pernicious-marcos-myths

In 1974, the poverty rate was 24%. By 1980 it was 40%. When Marcos assumed the presidency, the country's foreign debt was US$1 billion. By the time he fled, it was US$28 billion. Where'd all the money go? Investigators later estimated the Marcoses stole at least US$10 billion, most of it salted away abroad. Martial Law sustained a plunder economy run for the benefit of the Marcos family, its relatives and associates. Everyone else was just an afterthought.

I know people whose relatives disappeared or outright killed during the martial law era. The economy went to the dogs during his reign. Good for the people you've talked to that they were untouched during the country's darkest days, but there are a LOT of reasons why a LOT of people hate the Marcoses so much.

Voting Bongbong, who doesn't apologize nor even acknowledge the downright evil things his father has done during those days, will make us the laughing stock of the whole world, the world we inspired by the succesful non-violent People Power revolution.

I'm on mobile right now so it's hard to find an article, but there should be one. Just look up these people:

President:
Jejomar Binay
Rodrigo Duterte
Mar Roxas
Grace Poe
Miriam Defensor-Santiago
Roy Seneres

Election date is May 9.

Man, so I posted on my Facebook, that I were surprised to read what Marcos had done back in the day, and I instantly get a call from a family member who were completely shocked, and asked me to take it down, as I can get in trouble for talking about politics in the Philippines.

Shit, that shook me more than it should.

Take out the health issues of Miriam and she would be the best candidate (I'm still rooting for her). The support for her is silent right now, but I see people can't say any bad thing about her.

Duterte is a crazy one, with his kill all criminals and badass attitude, but I'm not really against him. What I hate is the lunatic Duterte supporters who acts like they would kill anyone who opposes them. I just hope the Philippines is ready for him.

Binay has a good chance, even though there are allegations of corruption. His "I'm with the poor" platform might stick to the masses. He is often sees as a joke by the Internet because of his color and appearance.

Grace Poe is a weak candidate. No good credentials and relies on her late father's legacy. Might pull votes from the poor, but I see weak support from the Netizens.

Mar Roxas is the shit, and I mean a shitty candidate. Too much PR is costing his popularity, and the connections with the current government doesn't help him at all. He also is connected with issues regarding the funds for the typhoon victims (Yolanda funds) and the failed operation against a terrorist (SAF44 incident).

Roy is
a DLC character on Smash Bros
. Is he even in the news?

Hey Filipino-GAF, I'm currently working on a project regarding company reviews/employer feedback by Filipino workers/employees and I've created a survey to gather important data.

Would just like to request everyone in the thread (currently living/working in the Philippines) to please answer the survey - https://www.esurveycreator.com/s/5ddc285. It has less than 10 questions and will only take a minute or two.

Hope you can share the survey link to your friends/family as well.

Thank you!
