I have Filipino friends that are in the US and voted for Trump

I don't get it

Probably fans of The Apprentice.

The Marcos burial is just political play in a form of a dead body. There are no solutions that would pacify both parties. I bet that after the body is buried, political parties will still push agendas for themselves. Justice will never be served.

Nothing will pacify these parties until both of the main families involved (Marcos, Aquino) lose political power, which is probably impossible with the way Philippine politics works. The intentions of burying FM's body at LNMB is purely political. Even Bongbong mentioned that "they'll rise again" after the decision favoring them was made, so that's a clear sign of their pursuit of more political power after 6 years.

So late dictator and former president Ferdinand Marcos is going to be buried at LNMB today. Even in death, he is still stealing the moment lol.

The family are really rushing the process because they know somebody's going to halt it the longer they wait.

Maligayang pasko!!

Madridista, if you are here, Jollibee was selling a mascot doll for $10. Not sure if it's sold out already.

The next one is apparently opening in 2017, close to Toronto. I'd probably check that out.

I miss the new year's celebration in the Philippines. Sobrang saya. It sucks here at Cali. I'm going to a club/bar drinking and dancing which I've done the whole year.

Anyone want to explain why Filipinos get along with Mexicans/Hispanics, relationship wise?

I'm in San Diego by the way, and there are a lot of these couples. Do we have similar cultural backgrounds?

They have similar cultures and practices in most of the stuff as well as religion. Probably because Filipinos and Mexicans have a root in Spain. The difference is that Mexicans have practices that aren't diluted while Filipino practices come from a multitude of places due to colonization of various countries. I'm not exactly sure how many influences the mexicans have but Filipinos have their native practices then malay, chinese, spain, japanese and american culture all mixed up. There are also practices that are specific for each region and island.

I want to update people in here, that there's HUGE development in the Philippines when it comes to football now. They have officially started up a national football league, that will start this March with 8 participating teams. Teams cannot be relegated in this first season, as there will only be this one division to start with.

The announced teams so far are:

Loyola Meralco Sparks FC (Taguig)
JP Voltes Football Club (probably Marikina)
KAYA Futbol Club (Makati)
Ceres Negros F.C. (Bacolod Negros)
Global Queen City FC (Cebu)
Stallion Football Club Philippines (Laguna)
Green Archers United (Cavite)
Davao Aguilas FC (Davao)

Teams can have up to four foreigners as according to the Asian football federation. They'll need to have at least three youth players and at least 25 players.

The league is called the Philippine Football League (PFL) and will be showcased on one channel, which I forgot.

The current two-times champions are Global FC who currently has 3 Spanish players and one Japanese player in their roster.

I think there will be a team from North Luzon at some point as well, which will be the ones I'll cheer on, as that's where my family is from. But I could also go for Green Archers as that's where we are based. I've always dreamt of coaching a football team from that area, so hopefully one day if I take a coaching education and license here in Scandinavia.

Yes.

Is Zamboanga part of Cavite? Seems Green Archers would be the team for me to cheer on if they are representing Cavite, and since there's no team from North Luzon.
Zamboanga is in Mindanao. It is over 800km away from Cavite (or from Cavite City, anyway).

Anyone familiar with Manila? I'm gonna be here for a few days. I want to eat that traditional meal served on banana leaves :D

It really depends where you're eating. Seafood Island is one of those places but there are better options available. If you are near BGC, Taguig, or Makati and have extra money to spare, try Sentro, Mesa, Abe, Fely J's or Aristocrat ( open 24 hours near Roxas Blvd.)

Gerry's Grill, Seafood Island, Dencio's, are cheaper options if you's like to eat pinoynfood like lumpia, sisig, kare-kare, etc.

Or look for a fastfood chain called Binalot. They serve most meals wrapped in banana leaves.

I really liked Fely J's while I was in Makati back in September. Not that I have a real standard for Filipino restaurants to make a proper comparison, but what I had there just hit the spot for me.

There's this other place I had lunch in at BGC, completely forgot the name of it, but I also really liked it.

I'm used to carrenderia-style restaurants, by comparison. They're scattered around Toronto, plus Max's of Manila in two locations.

All I know is that the restaurant I went to in BGC has huge windows facing the street, and it's at the ground floor of an office building/in the business district. lol

I'm still amazed that Tim Horton's is a big deal there, or so I'm told at least. I brought back a ton of Tim's coffee, I think I had a can for each family.

Eastwood is pretty nice minus the traffic. Lol

Damn, there's a lot of those that match your description in BGC! 😂😂😂

Well, if it's something new expect to have a lot of fanfare on the first two months!

Krispy Kreme, J.CO, Bon Chon, Yabu, Ippudo, Pablo Cheesecake, Uniqlo, H&M all had long lines when they opened.

Thanks again to everyone who gave me some Manila tips. I checked out Seafood Island for boodlefight, and it was amazing.

The differences I saw going from Malete to Makati to BGC were astounding. I've been to places like Brazil before, but the magnitude of difference between the poor places and the rich places is incredible. It's like I was going through 3 different countries in different stages of development.

Is BGC a relatively new development? What was there before? I figure it used to be pretty bare since it would be easier to just build new stuff in an empty space than to try and renovate and old neighborhood like Malete. The urban planning and design of BGC is very impressive. I felt like I was in a part of Tokyo or Seoul or New York. It's the kind of urban design that is very pedestrian friendly and helps to reduce car traffic. If only there were some kind of subway system...or is there?

Before 2003 BGC was mostly just flat empty lots with a few scattered buildings

That's pretty impressive what 14 years can do. Was it a large government initiative? Mostly private? A mix of both? Who's responsible for the urban planning? The layout is great.

Its private, IIRC. It used to be part of a military base. The base is actually still on the outskirts. Government sold it to fund housing for soldiers.

BGC was designed to be a place where you can freely walk around and yes, it's barren prior to the development. You'll only see small roads and tall grasses.

A subway system was planned but was eventually scrapped. Traffic can get terrible here especially during weekday rush hour as it connects 2 major freeways-EDSA and C5.

There's still a big chunknof BGC that hasn't been fully developed yet and this is wherebyou find Tim Hortons hhaa

I see. That's too bad. The traffic management is better than other parts of Manila, but it won't last. It seems like the current bus system isn't quite cutting it either. Do you know why they abandoned the subway system? Too expensive, I guess?

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
Problem with BGC is the passengers themselves. Oh hey the jeepney is not moving due to stoplight or someone alighting. Okay, a few meters suddenly someone wants to get off.

It's a major problem in this country's public transport - proper unloading/loading sections with enforcement.

AHAHAHAHHAH

Madam Secretary 3x15 preview

So much salt right now LOL
it's really hilarious seeing two feuding idiots, like a bunch of ants going at it

Got to try out Fort McKinley's lunch buffet (I basically gorged myself on their silog, veggie omelet and longanisa) with some calamansi juice while in South San Francisco today.

Other than wishing the eggs were over-easy rather than scrambled, it was really good. They also had a "Pasta Longanisa", which was simply penne pasta with Alfredo sauce, cherry tomatoes, peas and the longanisa sausage sans casing. That was good too though I was stuffed from my breakfast choice lol.
