Yeah, there are wealth extremities in the Philippines. If you're a tourist (or a citizen) who has money, you can visit places like these:

This is Coron though, which is a pretty expensive place from what I've heard.

Ah, that makes more sense. well I lived in a different countries in Middle East so I am sort of used to that type of living where the class difference is quite broad. What about thier people? are they friendly or are they like the arba, horrible people (horrible in a sense that it is quite challanging to get along with them) just because the atmosphere and the harsh environment?

It's easy to get along with Filipinos if you have booze. :p

But to be serious, it's all a mixed bag like every other place.

Kamusta mga pangit?

Originally from Olongapo City went to UK 'bout 11 years ago. Whenever I go back home people ask me to speak English accent which until now I cant do  makes me wonder. I find it funny when people mistaken me for other races apart from being a filipino but since the popularity of pacman i guess that lessens it a bit.

I'm always mistaken as Chinese or a mix, but whenever I say that I'm Filipino, the first thing people bring up is Manny Pacquiao. Haha.

And I've been here for almost 10 years, but you can't tell because I don't have any hint of an accent when I speak.

Anybody have a recipe for pancit? Haven't had it since I was a kid :\

Just a halfie here with a white mother, so Filipino food was pretty rare around my house aside from the occasional chicken adobo for breakfast...

At first it was Chinese, then Japanese and what's even funny is that other Pinoys thought I was Indian or Pakistani hehe makes me laugh all the time, then I say "hindi po intsik po ako" lol. With the accent I just wanna fool other pinoys, you know when they hear you speak they go nosebleed mode lol which i fail all the time.

This lady the worked at the cafe in my school thought i was some sort of Japanese superstar and insisted on taking a picture with me... flattering, but really random!

Born and live San Diego, California. I'm third generation. I'm pretty white washed. The only people who speak Tagalog in my family are my grandparents.

Earlier this year I had to spend 3 months in the hospital*, and I came across a lot of nationalities (nurses): Indians, Filipino, Egyptians, etc. Out of them all, I found the Filipino guys to be bursting with energy and acting positive all the time. They *always* make me feel good. One of them plays videogames and we talked about StarCraft 2 & the new Castlevania game. They always approach me with a smile & seem to be interested in really making me sustain the shittiness of the place.

So yeah, you guys rock. It's in your genes to be flawlessly awesome.

(* = I have Crohn's, and was having a case of severe abscess. Had to cut 10 centimeters from my intestines. Don't comment on this; just feeding people's curiosity.)

Well we've got legal marijuana, it makes any bland food taste heavenly.

My dad is Ilokano and my mom's a Manila girl! I grew up in QC and Marikina and wish I could visit again!

Anyone here being petitioned? My dad petitioned me 2 years ago, only 23 years to go!!!!

Haha im not that smoker but with queens day this year i had like 3 joints and all i did was sleep and chill all day bought a pizza and my friends sold it because i was sleeping. :p

I'm half (and whitey). I was born in PI though. I am white-washed (I guess, haha). Speak no Tagalog. I am shame on my race, heh. I haven't been to the homeland since a little lad. I will go visit one day.

People say I look mexican though. When I go to the grocery store, mexican people talk to me in Spanish while waiting in line. I guess I do look mexican. I just nod and smile.

Plus, I make bomb ass adobo. I make it like my moms. But it tastes nothing like the adobo I get in these cafeteria places. I guess I make it pheasant style or something.

And milk fish belly. yummy.............

Aren't cock fights illegal in the Philippines? Not that people follow the law, anyway. Haha.

Winter time seems to be the best time to go there, winter or spring. It's a little cooler, but not by much. Prepare to sweat buckets.

oh yeah, what is the Filipino fascination with being bakla? I went to see my family in Daly City and remember there being a show dedicated to showing someone in the crowd and saying bakla very loud. kinda like pee wee's play house.

Maybe I'm just the only one that notices it.

My fiancé is Filipino. Born and raised in Cebu. I think I've had almost every Filipino dish, except for lechon, which I refuse to eat out of principal! I can't eat anything with a face.

We are going to the Philippines next year for our wedding. Right now we'll be going to her village and Bohol (I think that's how it's spelled). EXCITE!!!

Brofist. They'll love you.

You can get lechon without the head, if that helps. And there's some variations, like lechon kawali, which is chopped up. No face there.

Quarter Filipina. Can I join? Love chicken adobo and pancit. I don't eat with my hands, but my mother does; she also speaks more Tagalog than English, because of the women she socializes with.

Also, my maternal grandmother is Elizabeth Ramsey, and my maternal aunt is the singer, Jaya. /smug dog

Edit: ^ God, that looks good. It's been a while though.

Greencard petition yeah. I'm already in the US but it's just sad/funny how crazy this entire process is.

Also, cock fights are perfectly legal. They even have 3-day weekends of just that at the big dome several times a year.

The process is a bit nuts, I'm assuming. I was lucky enough to have my parents do everything for me since I was still a kid (pre-teen if we're being specific).

And wow, still legal. I have vague memories of watching a cock fight or two as a kid.

There is only one technique: make a small mound of rice and ulam, pluck it out, shove it in your mouth lol.

.

My mom got petitioned by my grandparents in 1985, when I was only 3 years old, but my mom was in her 30s at that time, which was way over the age limit. Her petition took 22 years. The queues are longer now and they estimate my dad's petition for me (filed when I was 28 years old) to take around 25 years. I can only hope and pray that my dad lives to see that happen as he is currently 60 years old.

Yup, that's the technique she taught me. I kinda miss eating that way, but I always make a mess.

lol, just noticed this thread now. 3/4 Filipino, 1/4 Chinese here. Born in the Philippines, moved to the US when I was 6 and haven't been back since. I'm fluent in both Tagalog and English.

u can check this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLpS9ey11TU

but this is how I do mine

For Bihon
buy the bihon noodles
onion.
sauce: Oyster sauce and Soy sauce
meat: it depends wat u want chicken, shrimp, pork or beef
optional: I buy one of those coles slaw in a bag as my vegetable. I just put some

Make sure to drench the bihon in water first so its not all dry when u cook it. I tend to drench it 4-5 mins. I don't want it drenched too long because I want the sauce to be absorbed too

cook ur onions first then ur meat (if not shrimp)

when ur meat seems cook pour ur soysauce (deglaze the meat)
don't put too much. u don't want it soupy or salty, and u can always add some later)

Oyster sauce depending how sweet u want it to be

Put ur noodles in and mix
(if it seems dry u can add more soysauce or oystersauce depending on ur taste)
if u have shrimp add them now too

Add the optional veggies (if u want just carrots u can do that too)

cook 4-5 mins then done

Dropping by to say hey all.

Dad's from the Mt. Pinatubo region (never really asked) and mom is from Quezon City. I was born in the US (San Francisco naturally). Definitely closer to my mom's side (they're all here in the Bay Area) than my dad's side as they're all older and more spread out.

Can't speak Tagalog, but I can understand it as well as the dialect my dad speaks (mom can't understand it). Never ask me to speak it - I will butcher it like crazy.

Very Americanized - mostly due to being born here in the States, but I'd like to go the Philippines someday (Only one in my mom's family that hasn't gone there).

Food-wise, I'm good with most stuff save for any seafood.

I also lived in Muntinlupa for six years. My grandmother has this ice plant in Bayanan ave. before. My mother always told me to refrain from going out alone and I often escape to go to Kapiong's arcades near the church. Hahaha!

There's this event this Satuday in MOA. Something about anime. I don't really know much about it. What I do know is PinoyPS.com will be having a booth there and will be hosting an MVC3 and Naruto Ultimate Ninja tournament. Just letting you guys know if you want to come.

mix up some sisig (not the innard kind, the one with chopped pork meat) and seniorita bread
--> sisig tacos! good spicy and sweet goodness.

bummed out our local ongpin closed down for sisig meat.

Military brat, made and born in japan, 100% flip.

get those tools at pinoyps to run a SSF4: AE tournament, man. It's weird cuz it was pretty much just one guy that ruined the relationship between the local sf4 community and pinoyps, haha.

I'd like to go but I only know how to button mash in MVC3. :p

Are there more GAFfers there though?
