Final 360 dev kit arrives at Epic

Amazing that Epic, who is licensing UE3.0 to microsoft for gods sake, is *just now* getting final kits...

I believe the final kits have been arriving for X360 developers for a few weeks now (early Aug???) but still....the faster you can give Epic final dev kits, the faster they can provide support to X360 developers using UE3.0 (of which there are many)..

Perhaps only 1st party (MSG) or 2nd party (Bungie) developed/published games recieved the very first final dev kits???

Still, Gears of War is being published by MSG so.....

Bungie is first party. The company is owned by Microsoft, making it a first party developer.
Beta kits have been out for a while, but this is probably the first I've heard of final kits actually going out.

Awesome, wonderful news. I was worried that the final kits wouldn't arrive in time for X05. Now we should have some sweet videos to look forward to, and people will be seeing the games in their final form.

So they'll say after TGS "okay these playable demos don't do justice to the true 360 experience cuz they are on final kits. Oh wait..."

Pretty much the only games that will look bad on the 360 are the Xbox and PC ports.

Games made from the ground up on the 360 will look most impressive.

The only thing tied to the kits is the smoothness of the games. If a game is running at 20 fps on the final kits...I'd hope that there's still a lot of optimization going on.

Like Element said, most (if not all) developers got the final kits late last week. And they got them in quantity, like 50 in the first shipment.
They are very quiet btw, almost no fan noise to be heard even with all 3 fans being in use.
X05 = October 4-5

The Inside Track, indeed. Thanks Blim. Though, I thought there were only two fans in the retail version?

That's encouraging! Is it quieter than the original Xbox (or compare it to any other systems)?

This generation was interesting, noise-wise:

Quietest
GameCube
PS2
Xbox
PSTwo
Dreamcast
Loudest

At least in my off the top of my head that's the best I can remember. Loudness is important to me, because I normally play games with the volume low or muted in my relatively cramped room. (Don't like to disturb roommates with the noise of volume, but hate to get irritated by the disc/fan noise of just the system)

hah, his gamertag is TheRealCliffyB. Nice to see he's looking like a real person and not some hollywood hack.

Hmmm, I've been told about 3 fans, don't know if my friend was wrong or if it's a difference between the dev and retail hardware.
