Final Fantasy 8 now on Steam - $11.99

Lol @ Boost Magie.
As if the game wasn't easy to break enough.

However is one of the few Jrpg i enjoy playing, exactly for its broken shit, so i'll most likely buy it.

Its really easy to break the system with drawing the more powerful spells to junction and raise your stats. Sad to see this is a lazy port.

I put in work with this game. I spent almost 10 hours drawing magic for every character. I reached 99 with every character as well.

I wish this game had multiple endings. At least let Squall remain with the blonde teacher.

The card game is another memorable moment as well.

Something that has always bothered me about the game, and the trailer brought it up:

(END OF DISC 1 SPOILERS)
Irvine shoots Edea from the clock tower, while she's stuck in the gate.
The bullet gets to Edea from the front of the carriage, and she blocks it with a magic shield.
Squall jumps down from the clock tower, snatches a car and drives straight to the gate, reaching Edea's Carriage from the back (as it should be, since the parade was facing away from the clock tower), where she is naturally shielded by the huge back-side of her throne.

Did Irvine's bullet travel all the way across the globe, or what?

Enemies scale with you, so it's best to avoid leveling up altogether.

8 is the best 3D Final Fantasy, so this makes me incredibly happy.

Now we just need 6 on Steam.

Also:

Hockey rink. Spam summons. You'll level every few battles and the summons will refresh. I hit lvl 80 in about an hour.

Love that mix of razor-sharp 3d and blurry 2d. If they weren't going to do a full HD remake, they should have just kept everything looking like the PSX release but upscaled.

Just run the game at 320x240 resolution, solved!
Kind of a joke... not sure if you can even set the resolution, windows probably bottoms out at 640x480...

It can run in windowed mode at any resolution, while keeping your standard desktop resolution.

So... stupid Squeenix DRM still required I assume?

No?

I literally downloaded it from Steam and clicked it and the launch window/options came up. then I was in the game. I didn't register anything. I didn't agree to anything. I didn't put in any product key code or download any additional programs. It didn't even ask me to register with Squaresoft. Here is what happened:

Step 1: I downloaded game.

Step 2: I click game in library and launcher comes up.

Step 3: I click Play in launcher.

I think you can buy them towards the end iirc. If you have the Toberry ability "familiar" you can buy OF 1 or 2 at Esthar bookstore.

Ah right, forgot that you could buy all Occult Fan.

The only missable mag is the one from the Laguna sequence.

Hahaha yeah, I missed that fact!

Add this to the OP.

Are there any cool mods for FFVIII that came out recently? I kinda want it just for that. Like I don't know... rebalancing or graphical or something? Sorry it it's been asked previously.

FFVIII was at one time my favorite but it has since dropped a few spots. Still up there though. It was the first I really got into after a hiatus from console games and played through two and a half times. I still have the two separate full game files for PS1 on a PS2 card so I should revisit there.

Game was memorably hella hard when one played blind without faq and leveled up as with my first game file. Second game file is much less taxing and more refined. Not breaking the system but keeping levels low and what-not (it's been a while).

Tempted to get this but maybe on a sale later on.

Looking at the steam guides for the game, it seems someone already got a music fix for the MIDI files. Is this credible? I mean it was posted like 30 mins after the game released

Holy shit.

I just realized I can play this on my couch while I watch TV via my Nvidia Shield.

Win. I have my TV time plans for the next month. Yay! :D

Because the PC version has been available for over a decade. The ins and outs from this port are well known and documented.

Oh thank god. Now I wait for VII to lose its DRM and I'll buy both.

So you don't even have to make a SE account for this?

ok^, this is about the steam release of this game. Do we need PS4 begging every thread?

IGHQTGO.jpg

There's something primeval about this mix of ultra high-res 3D models and pixelated 2D backgrounds that makes it look... good.

I can't say what it is.

The steam version of FFVII is almost exaclty the same, only they ask you to register/login to Square the first time it boots. I didn't even have to do that since I already had a linked account from Hitmant/SleepingDogs/Deus Ex. So it was pretty much just as fast.

From what I'm hearing so far on the Steam release, this is a perfect opportunity for me.

Never finished it, and if memory serves...it's been close to (9 years I wanna say?) since I've played it. Although I do remember stopping at the beginning of disc 3 on the PS1 version because of other focuses in life/gaming, and I do remember being stuck with seemingly nowhere to go at some point.

Either way I'm stoked to get in on this. :D

Actually I think the biggest group that would contend that would be IX fans. They probably outnumer VII fans by this point.

Final Fantasy VII is still my favorite game of all time.

Although I bounce back and forth between that and Chrono Trigger depending on the weather.

IX and VIII are both close to my heart.

IX is a better game (junctioning is BROKEN and you know it) but I do love the setting of VIII.

Bought so fast. I miss this game. One of the few RPGs where I actually don't hate any of the playable characters.

Triple Triad and Chocobo World, hell yessss.

This, much like VII, just does nothing for me.

Awesome games I've loved in the past, but I'm totally underwhelmed and unwilling to replay them this way. It just doesn't make much sense to me. Feels wrong.

A full HD remake, on the other hand, I could get behind. Like with FFX and X-2

To buy or not to buy... FUCK I REALLY WANT THIS BUT I CAN BARELY AFFORD FOOD AT THIS POINT T_T

The question is, should I replay this in the Vita (OLED screen) or is the PC experience with AA and bigger screen the better experience. For the record I only play the Vita on the go when a trave, I won't be traveling any time soon so both will be played at home.

In my opinion older RPGs like this are magical on the Vita, there's something intimate about story-telling in RPGs on a smaller screen, kind of like curling up with a book. So yeah, Vita all the way for me.
