September 14, 2005 - Nintendo of America has announced that the company will publish Final Fantasy IV for the Game Boy Advance / Game Boy Micro this holiday season.

Final Fantasy IV is the Japanese name for what was released in the US as Final Fantasy II, the first Super NES version of Square's immensely popular RPG series. Though the game's main design -- including 18 towns and castles, dozens of spells and hundreds of monsters -- remains intact in the move from SNES to GBA, additional game elements unique to the handheld version have been added to the production.

Nintendo released the original Final Fantasy and the Japanese Final Fantasy II on the GBA in the US as Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls in 2004. Nintendo of America will release Final Fantasy IV for the GBA on December 12th.

Very cool, but how about that also give us the port we've all been wanting since, ya know, the GBA was released?

Wow... this is hot. That means I'll be playing Final Fantasy 1-4 on my DS within the next year probably.

Is anybody up for an updated port of V and VI on DS as well?

I feel really dumb, I got my Roman Numerals confused and thought this was Final Fantasy 6 (3). Oh well, I'll just pass it off was wishful thinking. BUT SERIOUSLY WTF! Come on Square, we need Final Fantasy VI, and Chrono Trigger on HANDHELDS.

I hope they up the graphics a bit like they did for I and II. Either way, this will be the first GBA game I've bought since Minish Cap.

AWESOME! My favorite FF.

I hope it's the "hard" version, aka Japanese version. But since they said SNES, I doubt it. Also hope the new content isn't too off-the-wall.

I can't believe it's coming this fall. One more game to add to the list!

HOT DAMN!

My favorite, favorite game of all time. I swear, I'll buy every damn re-release of this game, I'm so gay for it. They could even put it on an N-Gage, and then I'd...

Well, no, I wouldn't. But I do love FF4.

Aw man, I just started playing the PSOne Chronicles version. Do you think this one will be better?
No sprite stretching and no insane loading times = GBA for the win.

Just go ahead, it really shouldn't take you that long. You do have the "hard" version, though (based on the Japanese original). I got everybody at Level 99 (don't know why) and I had 36 hours on my file at the end.

Maybe so, but the Chronicles version actually has almost zero load times. It only has a wait when you save, but even that can be avoided 90% of the time by using the note feature (quick temp save).

Wouldn't be surprised if this was that just tweaked for the GBA.

This is gonna be one of those threads where every time I refresh GAF it'll be bumped up with at least 1 new reply, eh?

Is this the one with the dude flying off on a dragon at the beginning? I skimmed that one with an emulator a while ago.

No. I mean yes.
Shut up.
Anyway, do I really need a 4th copy of FFIV? I guess so!
There was nothing foul about the WSC version though, aside from shitty sound, but that was a hardware issue, I'd say. WSC wasn't exactly great in the sound department.

If by dragon you mean Airship and dude you mean only the manliest hero of the whole FF series, then yes.
But no, I think you're thinking of FFV.

For the last friggin' time, FF4 on PSone (Chronicles version) DOES NOT HAVE LOAD TIMES. It's as fast as the SNES version, sans the abnormally long save time. IT's FF5 and 6 that had the problem.

The bad news is that the soundtrack will have to be downsampled from 16 sound channels to what, 4? The no sound-chip curse of nintendo's post snes consoles :(

Yes. Another 3 page thread on the ways.
