Final Fantasy IV Goes GBA

Himuro said:
That would make no sense since they could make just as much money on DS. I hope they release them BOTH on ds/psp, if they ever do, just because they're that good and deserve such recognition.

Having them all on one portable would kick major amounts of ass. Continue the series from FF7 on PSP. Let's see 'em!

FF6, CT, Mario RPG and Earthbound next plz!

Since the lightning fast loading of FF4 on Chronicles doesn't bother me AT ALL, this game is pretty much useless on the GBA. And the sound will probably suffer.

Yay for no load times.

Trying to play this on the PS1 is painful.

Damn this game was awesome.

Did you play it on the PS1? The only long loading time occurs when saving. Plus, there's a memo save.

This is great and all, but where's our FFIII for the DS? That was announced ages ago, and I haven't heard or seen anything since.

You never played this game on PS1. There was no load times.

You're thinking Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy V or VI

Yeah, it is awesome on the PS1. Unless this has some cool bonus content, I might stick with that version. Also waiting for confirmation that this will be the newly translated "hard type" version featured in Chronicles and not based on the SNES easy type released in the U.S.

Yeah, if it's "easy type", I won't even bother with this. Portable or not.

Now they need to bring FFIII to PS2 (to complete the entire FF series on one console) and FFVI to GBA or DS.

The battles for the PSOne version of FFIV *do* take a little longer to load, actually. It's a little second or two hitch at the beginning of battle before the characters show up. Nothing to really bitch about, and nowhere near as bad as the loading issues in Chrono Trigger/FF6, but if you've played the SNES version you'll notice a difference.

Easytype is different from the NA SNES "FFII" though. An option to play regular (aka hardtype) and Easytype would actually be pretty cool..I died in Easytype quite a few times from alterations to enemies. :lol

Still reaaaaaaaaaally would like to know the JP release date..since I have to buy it.

Himuro said:
I doubt it's easy type. Makes no sense to backpedal from the awesome hardtype that was on FFC. And the new translation on FFC! Awesome!

They're probably gonna just port the WSC version, which was not like our bastardized FFII.

Red Scarlet said:
The WSC one was regular/hardtype in spirit, but still played differently, almost like a whole different -type.

Well, I have only played US FFIV and WSC. I only really noticed major differences.

Himuro said:
I thought FFII (us) was FFIV easy type..

Nope, they are pretty different:

Go freaky Zeromus, who now casts Death Sentence on everybody (a la Plague) right before he dies (I think I had 01 or 02 left when I got him):

The US SNES version is more of a 'middle-type'.

There's some battle timing of things differences, and you can't dupe anything at all, among other things (only played through it one full time).

...so do you guys believe me when I say FFIII DS doesn't exist yet? I've been saying that for the last year or so and everyone always goes "shut up hater" but maybe now that FFIV has been anounced FIRST FFIII's non-existence shall become more non-deniable.

Well, FFIII DS was at least announced (and less than a year ago, at that). I'd say it's more real than, say, Katamari DS.

Fans of the legendary FINAL FANTASY series can rejoice. The fourth installment of the wildly popular series will be published by Nintendo and available on Dec. 12 for Game Boy® Advance SP and Game Boy® Micro.

The GBA version of this classic adventure includes 18 towns and castles, dozens of magical spells and hundreds of monsters, weapons and items to help players on their quests. The game features the astounding music, challenging adventures and interesting storyline that are the hallmarks of the FINAL FANTASY franchise. Additional game elements also have been added to enhance the Game Boy Advance version.

Players can expect 30 to 40 hours of playing time as they journey on land, on sea and in the air, and explore new towns, caves and mountains in their attempt to recover stolen crystals. Twelve different characters with new abilities, spells and items join and leave the party at different parts of the quest to keep the game fresh.

Er, I think that's just describing the game in general, implying there's any new characters. I ran through the original FF IV cast and I counted twelve characters already: Cecil (1), Kain (2), Rydia (3), Tellah (4), Edward (5), Rosa (6), Yang (7), Palom (8), Porom (9), Cid (10), Edge (11), and FuSoYa (12). So I don't think there's anybody new :P

Oh, I don't think there's anyone new either, but the "new abilities" part is part of the highlight, after all :)

Oh man, that is awesome... can't wait for a V port now... but please give us the 3 we so desperately want. 3-5 is the holy trinity of FF games if you ask me.

Heh I've actually been replaying this on my SNES--just returned the Crystal Of Earth to the 8 clerics after defeating the Dark Elf. And now Kain wants a word with me on the airship....

Still my favorite "traditional" RPG of all-time; actually one of my favorite games period. The music alone elicits this overwhelming feeling of heroism and nobility that just drives you to keep playing on and on.

I just copped FFIII (SNES) off Ebay this week, and I've never played it, but obviously have heard/read about how great it is so I'm looking forward to comparing it to II.

Chrono Trigger I have on the PSX re-release but can't stand the load times. Sadly, the SNES version still goes for like the price of a newborn on Ebay.

Dragon Quest ports for the GBA or DS would be excellent. I'd like the mobile phone version of Dragon Quest III on the DS, please. And how about some SNES Fire Emblems too?

For the last friggin' time, FF4 on PSone (Chronicles version) DOES NOT HAVE LOAD TIMES. It's as fast as the SNES version, sans the abnormally long save time. IT's FF5 and 6 that had the problem.

No shit? I may have to track down a copy, then. What about Chrono Trigger on the same disc, does it have load times?

Let us not forget the Evil Mask.
Or mind or breath.

How about those fucking doors in the Sealed Cave? That's one of the hardest dungeons ever, even in easytype. Only one I can think of that's harder is this one ridiculous dungeon in Dragon Warrior II full of invisible holes in the floor and zombies that can kill your characters in one hit.

The American release FFIV for PSX, Chronicles, has virtually no load time, although loading and saving games does take a little time.

Chrono Trigger has wretched loading delays. It has anime clips interspersed throughout the game, but many are rather choppy (I have heard that they are less so in the JP version). The menu and pre-battle loading is particularly aggravating, but battles themselves don't seem as bad as Final Fantasy VI, where many special moves would pause the battle before taking effect(especially Sabin's moves).

QFT.

Also FF4 is my all time favorite game but seriously do we really need another version released?

Yeah, it's the news of a relatively straight quickie port of one game in the series to GBA that convinces me that the remake of another game in the series for another system has ceased to exist. Similarly, I am convinced GB Micro will replace the DS.
