In the absence of Square announcing a remake etc, the best way to revisit FFIX right now is the, frankly, incredible Moguri mod.

It is one of the best uses of AI up-scaling along with adding a lot of good QoL stuff to the game. They even up-scale the CG sequences.

You're probably older than me unc. Get off GAF and go raise your kids. 🐻
I fucking hate kids, whenever I see babies on my instagram algo, I gag, block that account and continue on with my life. Also, I've blocked every single friend from uni that became a "mom" that stopped having a personality once they got their pussy injected with some poor dude.

I'm feeling the remake announcement is close.

If they announce a Nintendo Direct it will be there.

If it's not there I will hand in my badge and gun.
We can but hope. That they didn't announce it at the anniversary doesn't bide well for an immenent announcement though.

I mean, it sounds like a completely new recording of the song, as far as I can make out. The orchestra doesn't quite match with the Distant Worlds versions of the song.
The song and the new artwork are probably both from the canceled FF IX remake

I feel old.... I missed the "9" and thought it just said final fantasy turns 25 years old today. The series itself is 37 years old gah... I was there since the first game and that wonderful map /monster chart.

That said, FF9 is the only mainline single player Final Fantasy game I have not played (outside of side games like Crystal cornicles, theater rhythm and the mmos). i have the port on switch. I just I don't know this one never appealed to me.

It has to be the chibi characters, the main character and all the non human characters. Sure ff7 had red Xiii and FF6 had a Moogle, but that was the extent of it for characters in your party. This one looks like half the characters are not human. They also have a weird art style on the cover that irks me. It looks childish. Coming off of FF7 and FF8 it was very odd.
I was 21 when it came out and maybe its childlike vibe didn't hit me at the time and just stuck.

Luckily FF10 and 12 went back to mostly human with an occasional non human. And the art style reverted.

i loved ff1 and 4-6 and tactics (2 and 3 were meh) i should like this.

Is it worth my time? Is it childish or is it just the art style? I own the game, I feel like i should play this at some time.

I have similarly missed the boat on IX but enjoy the hell out of X and XII.

LOTS of FF fans (including myself) had the same reaction to the artwork, only to include IX among their all time favorites after they gave it a chance.

I'd compare it to something like The Secret of NIMH. Looks like some furry kids' cartoon at first glance, but behind that exterior it deals with some surprisingly dark themes and evokes a lot of genuine emotion.

So in you opinion having been one of the most sold FF games ever and the second best rated FF at 92 on MC made It a bad game ?

The biggest complaints about the game are an annoying VA for the protagonist with cheesy lines and Blitzball. Blitzball is pretty cool though and a remake will probably get a new VA with better lines. I really liked the divine pilgrimage plot with twists and turns.

The VA is great, the laugh scene that everyone likes to complain is the same in Japanese.

Tell me more about how It pales in comparison to the games before pls...

Tbf the Rerelease of it did do well because it only sold 4m during its era making it lowest selling FF of that time.

When the FF X anniversary thread comes up I'm definitely gonna be shitting up the thread. FFX fans are worse than VII fans. At least VII was a good game.

FFIX was a neat RPG and one of the better games in the series. I do think it dropped off a little in the back half with all the dungeons and lamer party members but the first four characters are awesome.

I didn't like FFX but that's neither here nor there.

So you are saying the FFIX re-release was the most successful one? Cause it nearly caught with FFVIII's sales.
Not the most successful, but it did better then at launch at least.
I think X & X2 was the more successful remaster

I feel like FFVIII didn't get a quarter of all of this attention for its 25th birthday that FFIX is getting. I'm sure IX is the better game (VII is the only PS1 FF I completed/played very much), but if S-E is SO HIGH on IX, they really ought to do more for it (like remake it) if they feel it's legacy is so special.
