FINAL FANTASY TYPE-0 - Comparison video

The multiplayer in the PSP version is not what you assume. You can hop into a player's single player game and assist them for a short amount of time, then you are forced to leave. That's it. That's the multiplayer.

The purpose was to help out players who were struggling with certain sections. Now that the game has supposedly been rebalanced, there's probably no need for it. There wasn't really a need for it before.

Bit of trivia: The multiplayer didn't work on PSP-1000s. This was acknowledged in the game.
Man, that last bit's kind of crazy.

As for the rest: It actually still seems kind of crazy to cut anyway. PS4's far better as an online console than the PS3 was, and the PS3 was still more than good enough for that sort of thing... given Demon's Souls debuted that sort of MP. It'd seem like they could've just gone the next step and properly put in that kind of MP into the game, but I guess it wouldn't have worked out as smoothly (more small encounter based I presume?) and maybe FromSoftware has some patents on that stuff.

The upgraded faces on the main character models look like porcelain masks, really off-putting.

I do really like the sharp edges and harsh-contrast color blend of the PPSSPP upres, yeah. It's more like a painting while the HD version is trying (but not achieving) to be like a photograph.

They've cleaned up the HD version a ton, I don't think some of the criticism is fair that it's better one way or another, but I am impressed a bunch by the simpler technique of using the original PSP assets, they look really nice and detailed. Square might have gone overboard rebuilding a game to be "AAA" that would have looked nice as just a remaster (and maybe they could have left Vita in the plans then too... woulda coulda shoulda...)

So guys, here's a question. I'm pretty sure I'll be getting this game, if only for the Episode Duscae demo, but I want to know: is this game good?

I know it probably is because it has such a huge fanbase here, and it had enough interest to be fan ported, but I just wanted to know how good it is.

I know it won't look like a proper PS4 game, but gameplay and storywise, how is it?

It's alright, good for a playthrough or two. I thought the story was terrible though. The characters hardly felt like characters, I barely knew half of their names by the end of the game. There were too many. Everything felt so disjointed, like the game was just picking random scenes from here and there, not even trying to come up with a continuous narrative. Hell, I remember one chapter starting with a massive twist that felt so out of place it was hilarious. One scene, the characters are chatting away in a classroom, fade to black, "chapter 9" and then BAM fucking satan rises and everyone's dead (not actually what happened, but comparable in abruptness)

Play it for the gameplay, not for the story. If you end up liking the story, even better!

e: I played the PSP version with a fan translation though, some of the problems I had with the story could be due to that. Here's a far more glowing (and longer) review to balance mine http://www.novacrystallis.com/2012/08/final-fantasy-type-0-import-review/

Seems like the reviewer and you have diametrally opposite opinions regarding the story, but you both agree that the gameplay is good, so that's enough for me.

Thanks for the link!
