Final Fantasy VII PC question.

For those who own/have played this: does it require you to have the cds in the computer when running the game, or does it just install to your HD?

I want to install it at work, but I don't want to tote the CDs to and from work every day.

I remember playing it with the CD in. Mounting software is pretty much your only option if there isn't a full install. You can check for no-CD 'fixes' but you might miss some movies depending on how it installs.

Don't forget the high-rex texture mod and the full sized overworld sprite mod.

Ha, that's all news to me... only thing I heard of was newer pcs having no throttle for some parts, like the motorcycle chase.

Is there some FFVII PC fansite where all this stuff can be found?

Then your MIDI sucks, because FFVII and FFVIII midis sound wonderful on my PC. Much better than the OST actually. :lol

Would the PC port be the best version of FFVII? Or should I just get an emulator and boot up my old copy with the upgraded res, etc.

IIRC, you can play without the cd in the drive. I remember i had the "game crashes whenever airship picks you up from the crater the first time" bug, and the fix was to copy all of the data to the HD and edit the file source locations.

Hmm, it can sound pretty decent, though. If you use the XG driver and midi selection, it sounds really nice. In some ways, it sounds even better than the PSX version.

Wrong. Dead Wrong. Now you will....SUFFER errr ... Whoops sorry, still in the Resurrection of Evil game. Tee hee :lol

Anyways Hi-res texture pack alone > you + psx emu + FF7 PSX. Then again FF7 was the most hyped up mediocre game I've ever played. But that is just me.

Visit these three places and you'll be modifying the game with YOUR own backgrounds and ploygon models. :D

By the way. Introducing the Sephiroth patch.
he Sephiroth Patch (for TNT patch version) is available here..
The Sephiroth Patch (for normal version) is available here..

One thing tough. It's always safe to install the Sephiroth Patch after applying all other patches you want to use (bear in mind - Sephiroth Patch alters the main FF7.exe, so if the file is changed by any patches (incl. Sephiroth Patch, Chocobo Racing), other patches (also incl. Sephiroth Patch) using the file might not work/not work properly - before applying make a backup of the file and check different combinations of patch-applying-order).. Most probably the readme.txt links/e-mails are outdated (file is of 08.08.2000).

* Construction *

Base : Final Fantasy VII PC
Time Taken : The patch isn't finished yet but at current I'm looking at around two weeks.
Known Bugs : Sephiroth's battle animation for steal, throw, item, and other commands is
not present in the game so he just stands there, not to worry he still
performs the action he just doesn't move. Using a limit break other than
Braver delivers some really weird results and if you want to avoid these stick
to braver until I can sort this out. If all else fails I'll give him summon
spells and magic for limit breaks.

* Instructions *

I used to do patches for SNES roms and I found that I could
use the same type of patch for anything and because the patches
are so conveniently small I've stuck with them.

You will require the Maximum Install of FFVII
Remember to apply this patch after updating FF7.exe with the EIDOS TNT Patch!
Unzip the SPATCHTNT.ZIP anywhere on your hard disk.
Move FF7.IPS to your FFVII directory.
Move TOOLS.EXE to your FFVII directory.
Move CHAR.IPS to (FFVII directory)\data\field
Copy TOOLS.EXE to (FFVII directory)\data\field
Go back to your main FFVII directory
Run TOOLS.EXE
Select Apply IPS
Select FF7.IPS
Select FF7.EXE
Press ESC and exit the program
Go to your (FFVII directory)\data\field directory
Run TOOLS.EXE
Select Apply IPS
Select CHAR.IPS
Select CHAR.LGP
Press ESC and exit the program
Go back to your main FFVII directory
Run FF7.EXE

* Misc. *

You may distribute this patch and/or change it in any way. If it improves it that's even better.
Please give me credit in some form.

Well. I dont want to start a flame war/bashing about this game. But since its release in 1997 i have finished the game with enjoyment for about 30+ times. On PC and PSX. Tho the PSX had the better controls, PC version was better for Graphics and Sound (if you installed the correct soundfont/bank).

I like FFVIII to on PC and it was a real shame that they did not release FF IX on PC (because of the bad sales of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (Best Animated Movie for me), possible bankrupt?)otherwise i would have been stuck in the year 2000 Forever.
