Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PC elevates the already stellar experience with exceptional optimization, quality-of-life improvements, and expanded gameplay customization. Its immersive exploration, engaging combat, and stunning visuals make it a must-play for fans of JRPGs, whether newcomers or returning players.
PCGamesN - 8/10
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is an RPG unlike any other, reaching through time, space, and the screen to leave a mark on you in a way few other games can. Some of its open-world design is outdated and uninspired, and it can be irritatingly stop-start at points, but the emotional highs help it to overcome these flaws. You owe it to yourself to play Rebirth, and this new PC version is the best way to do it.
GameReactor Uk - 8/10
Overall, the PC version of Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth is a powerful experience that really shows what modern hardware can do for gaming. If you love the game's story and have been waiting for the PC version, you won't be disappointed. Square Enix has delivered a solid port that allows even more players to experience this epic adventure. The game's strong technical foundation, combined with an already fantastic story and gameplay, makes it a release worth considering even if you already know the story from previous versions.
PCGamer - 68/100
Great characters and combat can’t hide poor pacing and a story with nowhere to go.
ScreenRant - 10/10
Any minor flaws that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth may have are so overshadowed by its mountain of accomplishments that they might as well not exist. To give the game anything but the highest possible score would be to hold it to nitpicky standards only made possible by its impressive size and wealth of content. Rebirth goes out of its way to ensure all players can enjoy it, and it largely succeeds.
WindowsCentral - 4.5/5.0
Final Fantasy 7 Remake was a great example of how to rebuild a classic for modern audiences. 7 Rebirth follows the same trajectory, while also building upon every aspect of the previous. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a well-optimized PC port that shows Square Enix learned a lot from its predecessor, both technologically, and otherwise. Deeper combat gameplay, a massive world with a boatload of side content, with every major location from the previous game rebuilt and celebrated in new and unexpected ways. While some of the game's open world content can devolve into a bit of a Ubisoft-style collect-a-thon, some of the quests add interesting new lore and come with potent rewards and bespoke dungeons along the way. FF7 Rebirth shines most in its more linear story-heavy sections in my view, which absolutely over-deliver on the nostalgic expectations of fans of the original, while creating something fresh. I'm still sceptical of Final Fantasy 7's "newer" plot elements, but it doesn't stop the game from being an absolute trip, for fans both old and new.

I bought this on PS5 but haven't got around to it yet... I'd definitely rather play it on PC, but not sure I can stomach a double dip. Think I'll wait for a sale. Might be too tempted if it pops up on Geforce Now tomorrow though.

Hmm, torn between steam or Epic. Which one has no DRM?

I might just wait for performance numbers too. That PC exclusive video was far from adequate.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Seems like a shockingly decent port with actual effort put in by Square Enix. Time for another playthrough.

UE4 is pretty thoroughly cross platform, so the basic nuts and bolts were always gonna be decent.

Any reviews touching upon things like stutter? That's where UE4 open world games on PC kinda shit the bed.

Looks like the stutter is still there, unfortunately. Not many of the reviews touch upon whether its worse than Remake though, so im assuming its minimal.

The PC version ran smoothly on my PC, using an i7-9700KF and RTX 4070 Ti. I could run the entire game on the highest settings without issue, which leads me to believe this is a well-optimized port. Now, there were some oddities, such as the fight with Roche dropping some frames, but this could be due to the 120fps setting and how that looks against large moving set pieces. I’m not the most technical by any means, but this is the best FFVII Rebirth has ever looked. I feel like a fool for falling for the PS5 Pro hype when this version completely blows that out of the water.

I am watching some videos and the game has DLSS in settkngs but it doesn't seem like you can choose the quality of DLSS?

Pretty weird honestly

Sales aren’t going to be anywhere close to the “solid, uninspired” sales you mention
Why are you already calling this a “success”? They are likely to be “solid, more uninspired” here

It’s not going to outsell the PS5 version or come close to it. My post didn’t imply that (or if it did, then bad writing on my part). It’s about sales compared to expectations. Kitase himself has already gone on record saying he was impressed and excited by the PC preorder numbers.

I have zero interest in PC Gaming ( nothing against it but I’m on computer all day at work and like to game on my couch) but FF won’t succeed as a PS exclusive in 2025 and forward. I want more games like Rebirth, so hoping that this sells 1M on PC, and it looks like 500K-1M on PC is a safe bet and trending toward the higher end of that range.

Each additional PC sale helps justify their vision for this game and that’s what I’m rooting for.

According to Max's review, they've fixed the asset pop-in provided you set the background detail to 'Ultra' in the options. That was one of my main concerns, but reading other reviews, there is still some pop-in but it could be VRAM dependent.

Another was the open-world stutter-fest and apparently after a shader compilation pre-game, there's was next to none for him after the first 10-15 seconds of the game. Looking at a few other reviews, there did seem to be some random stuttering in their videos so we'll see, but it's not enough for me to cancel my pre-order.

Weird that they didn't include FSR or XESS, but that can always be added. Also, having to manually set the DLSS using the render % sliders.

Square Enix look like they've done a decent job with this one. Nowhere near as in-depth or polished as some of the PS 1st party ports, but a much better effort than XVI or Remake.

Yeah I hope it does better than FF16 did on PC, Square needs more sales so they make more of these games.

I’m seeing it get a huge advertising push recently on TV

Bought another PS5 Pro right after this video. Forgot about Part 3.

Edit: Title and thumb have been adjusted seeing as I own a PS5 Pro again. Image of PS5 Pro in trash removed from thumb. It's family was deeply upset. Replaced with a frightened PS5 Pro instead, as it's now confronted by the now superior PC FFVII Rebirth. That'll make everyone much happier.

Man, the salty Sony fanboys are already attacking Max.

I ended up getting it for PS5 a few weeks before the PC port was announced. I got hooked on the game so I kept playing but I wish I had waited a bit.

The game is great but too long to play again so soon.

Highly recommended, it can only be better on PC.

It seems to me they labelled the option under anti aliasing methods as 'DLSS' when it's technically DLAA.
Unless if you set the AA to 'DLSS' and set the render resolution to less than 100% it uses DLSS to upscale.

Who knows, I'm just guessing.

Playing through Remake on PC right now. Really enjoying it, and that's coming from someone who doesn't typically care for JRPGs.

Will probably take a break from FF once I'm finished, but looking forward to Rebirth nonetheless.
