Final Fantasy VII Rebirth - Switch 2 vs. PS5 | Side by Side

Honestly impressive considering what the Switch 2 hardware is. Genuinely looks like a good way to play the game, especially for those who want the option to play handheld.

Like pretty much every big third party game on Switch 2: Seems decent enough if Switch 2 is your only console and/or portability is very important for you.
Some big cutbacks but overall seems like a decent version given the hardware.

Are they comparing the 60fps mode on PS5?

IQ on that mode is very washed out compared to the 30fps mode.

Yeah, most comparisons I've seen are using the performance mode on Ps5.
And yeah that mode looks like shit on the base PS5, it's the blurriest game I've played on ps5 by a long shot. So unsurprisingly the Switch 2 version actually has slightly better IQ.

But it runs half the fps and is missing objects.

20fps in first city, hmmm...

DLSS making a sub 720p image look better and Square's "upscaling" making an over 1080p image look 720p, what a time to be alive. No jokes, this is the blurriest PS5 game I've ever played, downright broken. Thank god for the pro, otherwise I wouldn't want to play it like that.

I mean, yeah. It also has very notorious pop in.
Like I said, if you only have a switch 2 or playing in handheld mode is really important to you it still seems decent enough.
Otherwise there's no reason to not pick the Ps5/SX/PC version.

More than anything it just goes to show how much Square fucked up the performance mode on Ps5 when the Switch version running at 720p actually has slightly better IQ than the PS5 running at 1152p.

the PS5 has Linux running on it now.

someone should try running the PC version on a PS5 with TAAU or FSR at 1080p internal, upsampled to 4k, and see how it looks and runs... I swear they could so easily fix the image quality but somehow refuse to

Not really a knock; Rebirth is on UE5 and that engine is a resource hog no matter the platform. Rebirth itself is also a very ambitious open-world game, and we don't know what particular team Square-Enix put on the Switch 2 version (I'd assume a very good one) or budget allocated to the port itself.

Plus, they can always patch performance with an update, just like other platforms. But most importantly, these are Nintendo gamers: they don't give a shit if it looks rougher than the PS5 version. They want it on their Nintendo system and they want the portability, that's what Rebirth is giving them.

It's most likely CPU limited here.

I think it's incredible what they pulled off with this. Yes, it doesn't look as good as the PS5/5 Pro version. The Switch 2 isn't that expensive/strong. The PS5 version itself struggled with visuals and performance. They still produced a Switch 2 version that looks fine in handheld mode and I think it looks a bit better when docked. I think that's a huge accomplishment. I hope the Switch 2 user base can come in clutch and add 2-3 million more sales for this great game.

It's a noticeable downgrade in terms of geometrical detail and also lighting:

DLSS compared to the shitty upscaler used on PS5 is doing the heavy lifting but can't do magic on problematic things like hair transparencies:

I guess that for those that don't have another system it's still a playable way to enjoy the game.

Yeah looks like a ton of cutbacks even vs the 60fps PS5 mode + running at half the framerate +more unstable FPS + lower resolution + lower quality models.

It's impressive that they've got it to run on the NS2 in a largely good performance state, but it's far from parity compared to the base PS5.

the storage speed is realistically the only thing that could give a PS4 real issues here.

and even there I wouldn't be surprised if it worked out ok

Game also looks on par (or even worse) with Remake.

Rebirth has bigger environments but I don't think it wouldn't be able to run on PS4 with enough cuts.

I will forever be traumatized by the Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth textures and ugly jpegs backgrounds

Hey, these are all temporary textures. They can't give you all the goods the first go around. You'll need to buy the FF7 Remake Trilogy Remastered for PS6 to get the real intended version. It'll only cost you $99.99.

I love my switch 2, I do but I can't enjoy modern AAA games at 30 FPS it's become so noticeable to me since building my PC. I can't do games under 60FPS anymore for the most part. 30 FPS the controls are so awful and heavy and turning the camera actually hurts my eyes. We need a real solution like lose less scaling to come to these consoles, and a better frame gen to make 30 fps feel 60FPS in terms of latency and smoothness.

Looks like a good show piece for the PS6 Portable next year, or just getting a PC handheld to run it at 60fps.

on a small handheld screen 30fps is fine to me. on a big TV not so much.

the larger your screen, the wider the gaps between frames when object move... so it becomes exponentially worse the more of your FOV the screen takes up

On a GPU that's more powerful than even a PS5 though...

not the point. it shows the streaming system isn't limited on an HDD.

we now know a PS4 raster level GPU can run it (Deck/Switch 2), we know a PS4 level CPU can handle it (well, with dips into the 20s), and we know it runs on an HDD with slow seek times.

Damn whe I played the game, and looked at that, I remember when devs Blames CELL and 256MB for many issues on PS3,.......So now with plenty of memory, X86, upscallers, teraflopsm what the excuses now?

But if it can run on HDD, then it means PS4 version should be possible.
Could've been possible.

Okay? So what's the point overall? That Square screwed up by making it PS5 only at launch? I don't see the point in trying to justify whether or not PS4 could've ran this game. That ship sailed.

because it would mean it's not an "impossible port", simply a port that is as expected. that was the original topic
