I made this poll in the hope of finding out what everyone else plans to play as;

What race are you playing as (or plan to play as) in FFXIV ARR?
http://poll.pollcode.com/rv3dy

Worth a try.

I have to echo this sentiment. Played through both Elf land and Pirate land previously and I'm not feeling Ul'dah. I had planned to play through it this weekend but didn't get far.

----

The introduction of legacy servers has certainly ruined my fun because my friend is a 1.0 player and my legacy character is practically new. Now we'll have the problem of legacy vs new servers at phase 4 because I don't think they want to give up their old character and I don't want to play with an already established population.

Legacy kills friendships.

On another note I've been wondering what race everyone plays to be due to the overwhelming number of people with tails I see running around. Is there an exisiting poll for GAF?

You should be playing with your friend, not based on what server or an established population. What keeps an MMO going is it's community and the people you play with.

I don't think I'll ever max out more than 3 classes in a game like this. This game seems like it's less about making the strongest character possible, but more about connecting with other types of players to create an ebb and flow within a party. If I had every class maxed out, the game would get boring real quick...

This is 100% correct. Even with an almost new character leveling your tradeskills and doing dungeons and stuff, what server you are on wont really have any effect on that. Playing with your friend is the best thing you can do, besides he will have a new class he can level when he plays with you :)

I was kind of bummed out with how low the population seemed on Sargatanas compared to how Ultros was last week, but I guess it could be because this is the second week of this phase and people aren't as interested. Starting over with the fighting classes seems like fun but I can't see myself giving up all of the time I spent leveling up the crafting classes. At least I still have PGL and MRD to level up once phase 4 starts.

Well it's a new server that got opened up on the second week of a beta ment for people with old characters.

so, this is coming from an LOTRO player, but how big is the world in FF XIV? is it anything similar to LOTRO or bigger/smaller?

I managed to level to 13 this weekend as a firestarter in Ul´dah

Funny that you mention that.
I played Galka in FFXI and Roegadyn in 1.0 and phase 3, but I might switch to cat.
I miss having a tail.

Only Legacy characters can roll on Legacy servers at this time. New players will be able to join Legacy servers eventually, but for now at least that would explain the difference.

Managed to join a Grand Company (Gridania) before calling it quits for this week. Can't wait to get my Choco next time :)

Hopefully I can run some dungeons/guildhests with gaffers in the FC next time instead of random people!

Got through the inferno questline before stopping for the weekend, was pretty fun. Also ran a bunch of dungeons with other gaffers which is always fun. Next phase I'll probably try to level a second class earlier so I can swap if needed, though CNJ dps isn't half bad.

I'm gonna miss not being able to play next weekend, but I'll be back for the final phase 3 weekend.

Are the legacy (special Chocobo barding, gobbue horn) items tied to the account like the collectors edition items are, or would it just be for a single character?

IIRC, the new Legacy stuff (mostly barding) is tied to the account while the goobbue horn is tied to your character, because it's an actual key item that has been converted.

Players Who Own FFXIV Version 1.0
Players who own FFXIV version 1.0 will not need to purchase the PC version of FFXIV: ARR and will be able to download the FFXIV: ARR software for free.
* Details on downloading the FFXIV: ARR software will be provided at a later date.

Furthermore, users who have version 1.0 registration codes that have not yet been registered will be able to register them and play FFXIV: ARR on PC at the start of the service.

I was completely unaware of this.... I guess I'll change my preorder to the PS3 version. In hindsight that was £5 well spent.

Sigh, another beta weekend has ended.

The long wait for next weekend begins.

I ended up running all 3 of the level 15 story dungeons back-to-back-to-back with GAF and had a blast. I can't wait for this thing to launch, I haven't been this excited for an MMO release since playing in the Tera beta.

When is phase 4?

Square must hate me cause they wont give me a fricken PS3 code ;_;

Do i get nothing for my legacy status?!?!?

(My PC is across america right now...)

Legacy players got an email just before when Phase 3 started which contained both a Beta code and a PS3 download code.

Playing with my friend last week we laughed at how the Marauder hand armour sort of looked like boxing gloves (see above), so we made a macro to the 'shadow boxing' emote. We would run up to unsuspecting players, walk around them and harass them like a punching bag. Fun times.

EDIT: Also could someone send me an invite to the GAF guild or free company. My name is Funny Dude and I'm on Ultros. I've been trying to send a tell to the people in the OP but it won't work for me for some reason. I type everything correctly but it says their bouund by duty or something.

"Bound by duty" is just the fancy way in FFXIV of saying you're engaged in a quest. If they are in an instance, I believe that whispers won't work.

only thing keeping me from starting anew are the thoughts of restarting all crafts.
Those were such freaking pain to do I never want to go back again
my plan is to play on arcanist from the start and pretend its a new toon
changing to toilet squating cat will help

On the beta
such pain to join grand company
I thought i was close after those lv15 dungeons
But nope quests after quests
I just want a fighting chocobo :(

The UI designer of FFXII brought the distinctive blue dots at zone lines to this game, but for some reason he didn't include the name of the zone you are going enter by crossing the line the way he did in FFXII. I don't get why, it sure would be nice to be able to see where I was going to zone into without having to open the map.

What is also aggravating is how some of the Aethernet listings for where you can go don't have anything to do with where you are going. I have to sit there and think for a moment where the Gate of Sultana, Gate of Nald, and Gate of Thal go in the Ul'dah Aethernet. And if I can't remember, I get to close the Aethernet dialogue and open the map again just to see where I'm teleporting. Come on Squenix, throw us a frickin' bone here!

I swear it showed where you were going at least some of the time. Must be a beta quirk, the full game will probably more reliably show it, at worst after a few patches.

And yeah, Aethernet needs a map display.

yea the Aethernet is really annoying. I wish they give you the map of which Aethernet is which when you move over the cursor or something. I can't remember which one I am supposed to go and I have to go back and find it on the map.

Yeah. Those are kinda poor UI flow design decisions.

On the flip side, it does kinda force you to memorize the gates.

Thanks to everyone who took the time so far.

If it's fair to look at the trend, my suspicion about real life cat people playing this game has been confirmed with them taking the lead. The only part that isn't what I expected is the order of Lalafell and the Elezen, I didn't like Elezen because of hairstyles + stiff shoulders, and I didn't feel there were that many of them, while I figured Lalafell would be popular with GAF even if I didn't see too many.

I could combine the Hyur totals I guess, but I feel they're different enough to warrant separation.

This is a really good game. Got a bit eager to start a character so I didn't notice gaf had a guild on Ultros. But I'm hoping over once it actually goes live. At its best it feels like playing Final Fantasy XII again but at its worst it's laughable (the story mainly). Doesn't matter too much.

Level 19 and had a blast in both the Dead Mines + Underbog and the 3-1 Demon's Souls dungeon. My tanking reflexes really comes out when running instances. Will get addicted when this gets released.

This week I created a Lalafell Thaumaturge. I'm pretty sure I'll be playing as a mage, I didn't like the melee classes at all.

So far I haven't seen yet any of the party content, hopefully I will the next week.

i'm still trying to decide on what race i want to play as.

i like the feral cat look (apologies for the large gif)

and the goofy hyurs (i love the look of that story npc whose name i have forgotten and ended up creating a character that looks like him)

and this is my 1.0 character

i loved playing as a tarutaru in ffxi and i love playing as a lalafell in ffxiv but i feel like it's time for a change now.

i'll likely regret changing from lalafell in the end

Is this normal that i had trouble finding another main story quest after i completed the one giving access to all cities ?

or did i miss an event ?

I haven't been this excited for an MMO release since playing in the Tera beta.

Fighting high level BAM Crabs when you reached the level cap at the end of the Tera beta! Never forget!

I also share the sentiment of being as hyped for this as I was for Tera back in the day, despite starting to feel the burn of grinding dungeons after finishing the FF14 beta story quests. I'm sure I'll be fired up for the game again when Phase 4 comes around. Gonna try to cap my lvl 30 Lancer next weekend then spend the rest of the beta with my THM.

Give me you email and password, I'll check for yuh :D

I think i found it, but i didnt get anything saying i could do it on PS3

It just says "all 1.0 players have access to the beta" so i think thats just saying PC

Edit:
Got an email on june 11 (return to FFXIV!) and 21st (Regional data center) neither of which have any codes...

Ended up taking a couple of pictures on the PC version for my character. I have been playing on the PS3 version pretty much because the framerate is terrible on my PC. They need to put in the ability to do screenshots on the PS3.

I'm on console and I feel challenged to get into a party/group. I find that there is very little communication between console players because of the tediousness and difficulty of navigating the text communication interface. Is there going to be a quest pairing system or dungeon finding system in the final game?
