It used to be written that way on a bunch of stuff, even the locations on the map (with no UI font equivalent next to it). But they changed that because it wasn't very readable. I agree though that it is a nice touch.
EDIT: Added my vote to that, was an Elezen in 1.0 but I'm going Midland Hyur in ARR.
Sure but tanking wasn't the issue. They didn't understand the need for healing.

What's the difference between Midlanders and Highlanders?
They're physically different to the point of being different races, unlike all the other race types which are more or less palette swaps/eye shapes etc. Differences include faces, hair styles, posture, physical sizes, emotes, everything you would expect for another race to be honest.

The current lodestone forum is for 1.0 players only. The current forum for ARR players is the beta forum. I think.
1 of them was me, there were actually quite a lot of Roegadyn on my server (coeurl), even with the same exact model/hair as me too >_>

Perhaps there was a mission I missed? That's strange. I was stuck on a story mission in Horizon and "A Spirit is Willing" at levels 15/16/17, until I made 18 and passed both. But aside from levequests, not many missions came up after that. Maybe I should have searched more? I'm not a fan of hand holding, but I have to admit, it was tedious finding missions after a certain point.

I have a keyboard for my PS3, and still found it difficult to communicate and interact with others. Pressing R1 and bringing up emotes is cumbersome, and typing something at someone becomes nerve wrecking when they're moving (while you try selecting them). Even walking around with a bright green P for "looking for a party" hardly gets the desired result (then again I was a Lalafell PLG with an eye patch by the name of Billy Quizboy, I think THM, BLM and WHM were more sought after than tanks). The "search for players" screen is a little intimidating as well.
That said, I can't wait for the FFXIV: A Realm Reborn |OT| Everybody wants to be a cat, or at least the community thread so we can build parties.

Ragnarok was the recommended EU world in the last version, so it already has the largest EU community, lots of UK, French, Germans, Spanish, Italians, Russians, Belgians, etc. There are also Middle-East and Latin American players.
Funny enough the only downside it's that if somehow you stayed up playing late, there weren't many people around in the early-morning hours, at least until some Japanese people logged on.
Still, being in Ragnarok certainly beats adjusting your own schedule to play with NA people when you have work the next day, especially if they happen to be from the west coast, I joined a LS like that for a while in 2011, very bad idea even tho I was friends with some of the members.

Damn, I missed the entire beta this weekend because I was off on vacation visiting my brother. 
I'm honestly not sure what I'm gonna do yet. My old Legacy character is a lalafell because I think they are adorable and make the best looking mages, but... I sort of want to change it to another races because while they always look cute, it seems like the detail is a bit less because of how small their armors tend to be. I'm just not sure yet...

ARR characters are in the Lodestone Beta, this one will replace the old lodestone as soon as it ends its beta status.

Added my vote! I'm playing a male midland hyur right now, and I love him, but I'm now considering switching to female for release. I'll probably just make both, but regardless, going to stick with the same race.
I played Galka for years in FFXI and Roegadyn in 1.0, its always felt like an exclusive club. I think I'm ready for a change though. I'm leaning cat man or cro-magnon looking hyur.
The majority, if not all, of EU-GAF is playing on Ultros/Sargantas, though.
That's cool, I'm just giving my opinion about Ragnarok because I've been playing there since the world was created last year.
Same here, my 1.0 character looks just like my old FFXI char, plus a goatee. During the beta I thought about changing to Hyur since they now have some of the hairstyles that were only for Elezens before. But after playing again with my 1.0 character, I don't want to change it, maybe modify a scar or something, but that's about it.

Seems alright from what I played. Not crazy on the mashy cooldown atypical MMO combat, but the lighting is definitely gorgeous. Wish I could get more AA on the go, but the game hates my 5770 taking over and glitches all graphics at that point.

Would there be enough EU players from GAF to warrant not rolling on a EU tagged server?
It's not a latency issue at the end of the day since we're all connecting to Montreal no matter where we play, just a timezone one and whether there's enough people on at the same hours. If there's one thing I've always hated it's being in the last European timezone for MMOs, things die off earliest for you even when you can put in a few more hours.

Hehe I played Taru in XI and was always jealous of the big tall Galkas. I really miss their tails and I really want a lala pld, but will definitely do a roegadyn MNK or Mage for my secondary char.
That's the color of the dye, see the helmet on the character is yellow same as the dot on the icon.

No, but really, I just liked how flashy the skills look like. It makes the archer looks boring. Kind of. Dont get me wrong though, I will still support my Miqote archer, I am sure.
Logged in against my better judgment last night, and had a great time.
Got through Satasha and Tam-Tara Deepcroft with some lovely folks, and had a great time. Both dungeons were really easy, but had a good time. And definitely a good ramp-up for getting used to party play, too, since I'm still getting used to the new gamepad controls.

That flashiness you're talking about is going to be toned down for phase 4, but that includes all classes, although Archer and Marauder were the less flashier ones.
