Did anyone's FPS decrease drastically?

Last time I played was before the maintenance and I was getting about 70 FPS in the cave before Ifrit on max settings and now after this patch I log in and it's freakin' 25-30 FPS in same place?

How is this possible?

More people on the server now it seems.

So... does anyone have a working SMAA profile for the game? The OP one worked at first for me, but I'm pretty sure a recent patch broke compatibility because now I instantly CTD when I try to boot the game.

Fake edit: It seems that the component that doesn't work is actually the Steam compatibility bit. OP profile works, but only without the Steam overlay.

Have a link? Can't find it...

Man, they took the training wheels off on Garuda.
AoEs without any helpful markings on the ground, at least from what I could tell.

Being a WHM really is an ungrateful job. Tanks don't communicate or pull agro, the team rushes without noticing I have only 10% hp left, bards don't use any ballads at primal fight.

WELL THAT'S OKAY, JUST BLAME IT ALL ON THE HEALER.

Oh, the humble life of a healer.

I always thought being a healer sucked. No respect at all. I recall in FFXI how people would price gouge White Mages with the Raise II spell. The cost of that spell was insane in the auction house and it made absolutely no sense. White Mage can't use it on themselves! They use it to help YOU!

lol . . .A boss in Aurum Vale does the same thing too. Just like 1.x! You need to have your battle log filtered to pay attention or it's wipe :o

These cutscenes are cool, but the voice acting is LOL worthy at times. The english voice actors just can't seem to emote, they're talking normally throughout their lines despite even being in war or something occurring.

This character's voice in particular was horrendous with that specific aspect.

I'm gonna try the Japanese voices.

Yeah, all of that boss' special attacks are AoE in some nature and yet none of them have the telegraphs.

My one complaint is the lack of consistency.

I need to settle on a FC :(

I wanted to hold out til I could transfer to Ultros but randoms will be the death of me

That's sort of the beauty of Coincounter. He was an absolute bastard like that in 1.x. Now its the same thing but fast paced. Hope you don't lag!

Kan-E-Senna's Japanese voice is great. It's Rie Tanaka.

But the difference in scripts is really jarring - the English localisation team really rewrote a lot of the characters' personalities and mannerisms. It doesn't work too well reading the English script with the Japanese voices, sadly.

Her voice was way too calm in certain cutscenes. I've noticed she never changed her tone at all.

The problem is that while the Japanese voice acting is pretty great all around, the Japanese script is dull as hell and vastly inferior to the English script.

If you know both languages, it's jarring to hear them say things that are completely different in Japanese while reading the English text.

I ended up switching to English voices because the script is better, even though the voices are pretty =|

Now this is fucking interesting.

People were saying this quiet a bit a while back too. The English script injected a lot of personality to all the characters. The Japanese version is apparently dull as hell.

I'm just scanning the dialogue at this point and just plain skipping the story stuff. It's so bad and drags on forever!

Well, I played 11 hours today (... Jesus...) and I ran across some of the best writing, dialogue, characters, and gameplay scenarios that I've seen in any Final Fantasy game, and I have beat every single main one.

Amazing.

There is just too much of it for my liking. I prefer FFXI style were cutscenes were few but very meaningful.

Ugh. Linking main story missions to the duty finder is a horrible idea. It's been 50 minutes now and still nothing. I'm assuming it's because I'm a Thaumaturge as well. So many DPS classes. I have no desire to really level up tank or healer though. This is likely what is going to cause me not to subscribe once the free time is out if the server issues do finally get fixed. I haven't waited around this long for a group since Everquest 1 and that was the primary reason why I got sick of that game after sticking with it for so long. Sure I can grind levequest but that's really boring when I just want to progress the story.

Well, I absolutely despise almost everything about Final Fantasy XI, so that shows where I'm coming from.

I didn't really get very far into that one, though, only put like 15 hours into it before giving up. That was 9 years ago, though, I barely even remember anything about why I wasn't enjoying it at all.

I just got the PS3 CE in my hands. How long should I expect to wait before ill actually be playing the game? (installs, patches and whatnot)

So how do you level up the other classes after you have done a few. Even with the bonus, it's become a nightmare as I'm running out of lowbie quests. Fates are essentially what I'm going to be stuck doing? It's nice that you can do any class you want, but there is a severe lack of content to support this outside of tons of grinding.

Fates and the hunting log. Fates seem grindy, but ig you get at least one buddy with you, it's not so bad.

Also, don't forget your levequests for a bit of a bump while you wait for fates.

Yup.

System Configuration -> Cutscene Audio

She looks like that sort of emotionless character though so maybe it's appropriate.

Believe me, it does not match at all. Even "emotionless" characters have some bit of alteration in the tone of their voice when the situation fits. This is merely the voice actor not doing tone correctly. I mean the voice itself is okay, but the way she speaks the same in every happenstance isn't good. There's one part where this guy is screaming in-game because someone
died and it was as if he was trying to force it without raising his voice tone at all.

Hmm...I suppose I'll just have to see how it is when I get to more story scenes. Thanks for the info.

If all else fails I can see if I can just turn off the voices during cutscenes and read it like FFXI.

And I got 90000 again. Ever since the maintenance happened I definitely experience more errors than I did before, but this might be just a coincidence.

Sorry to those who were left behind in the primal. :(

Just finished the story. That was pretty legit. Probably the best Final Fantasy I have played since FXII and probably in my top 5. The voice acting was pretty meh, I almost wanted to shut it off since having Japanese voice overs isn't going to do much for me. That second to last or maybe 3rd to last boss fight was amazingly well done and really fun. Coming into this I was a bit worried about the encounter design since I have found a lot of non-WoW MMO boss encounters to be pretty lacking but this games boss encounters are really great.

Healed for the first time with a SCH as a WHM and I really like the synergy between the 2 classes. Much more than my first two full parties where I had 2 WHM.

Slipstream has no red cone. If your tank isn't aware it will be a very hard fight for the healer. It helps if the people in your group have played MMOs which don't have red indicators on the grounds and are experienced with just watching the boss for the tells that they are doing a skill. This game also has a bat that fills up above the bosses HP batrwhich is a tell for charging a skill without the indicator.

Hiding behind the columns is exciting too for the same reason.

Yeah, dialogue is top notch, just wish it were acted better. Particularly the ul'dah general.
"MAD SNAKE!! MAD SNAAAAAKE!!!"
