I do Blizzard Thunder that exchange thingie Fire Fire Fire Fire until the exchange thingie comes up again then Blizzard until mana full exchange and fire fire fire again..or something like that but yeah..gameplay is really not that versatile :/

Same on my WHM. Basically do some prebuffing if necessary cure cure cure to get a cure II proc then us that, cleanse a bit here and there. I try to break monotony with dpsing in between but that is also a normal rotation virus, aero, stone stone stone (or stone II)

And Moon is the only way to go! Mmmmwuah

THM/BLM opens up a bit more 40+, because of extra skills and having two separate "free cast" proc mechanics.

At 50, I'm settling in on Firaga->Thundaga->Fire until spent->Swiftcast if up->Flare->Trance->(Blizzaga->Thundaga->Firaga->Fire until spent, repeat until Trance is back up)

but Flare comes out of the cycle when normal adds are involved since it's AoE, I try to keep Lethargy up on the biggest damage threat, if Raging Strikes is up it needs to come out right before Flare, if Convert is up it needs to come out after Flare instead of Trance and be followed with a couple Fires, and all of this while fitting in Enhanced Thunder and Enhanced Fire procs. The first is easy, the second sometimes requires jumping into a fire cycle with half MP to not waste the proc.

While I'm doing this, I also get to try to drop Apocatastasis on the tank if a big enemy is casting something elemental.

If I pull hate during this routine, my play would be improved if I assessed the actual threat and cast Mabarrier or Wall as appropriate to whether its main WS was magical or physical, and also if I saved Wall until it began casting a physical WS. (I'm kinda bad, so I just flail a general direction on my gamepad that gets me both+Surecast.)

On pulls with standard enemies, I also need to make Sleep my 1st, 13th, 20th, and every 7th after cast, and move it up in the list if I miss a cast due to dodging an attack or casting Flare without Swiftcast. And it needs to come out immediately if another DD isn't paying attention and AoEs.

Last but not least, if the healer drops connection or dies or is busy Raising, I have to decide whether the remaining enemies can be burnt down and either go all-out or switch over to balancing Physick spam with the occasional Blizzard to keep my MP up.

And I haven't even figured out what Aethereal Step is good for, other than getting one last cast off while you're in WS range.

I think I'm going to roll a healer on my server, which class is the go to starting one for would be healers?

Conjurer :)
You could also start with Arcanist and then go Scholar but that is 30+ levels of dps before you get to properly heal a dungeon.

Thanks for this :)
I am going to take my THM to 50 eventually and this will come in handy.

Is a bit more complicated. ;) you need to maintain buffs refill expiration ones, abilities not worth if there are not a combo.

There is a wonderful thread on official forums about the DRG rotation, is about 27 abilities one.

hm

im gonna stick to stone stone stone

Thanks. I think its going to be tough to be a decent healer on the ps3 but I gotta try. Bored of all this waiting.

tanking is pretty in demand too if you want a role that's wanted + flashy

What's the best list of abbreviation and slang terms for the game? Always end up lost when people start talking like this

you know what to do and where are the merchants fot T1 +T2 gear
you are just abel to go for AK and WP. AK is the second GC prequest to lvlup your rank.

What's T1, AK, WP and GC?

EDIT: also, I see many screens with greatly personalized interface. Is it a PC only feature? Can I resize windows on PS3 too?

AK = Amdapor Keep, level 50 dungeon that opens up after story and you get sent there for your Grand Company's 2nd promotion quest thingy.

WP = Wanderer's Palace which is a good starting place for level 50s to gear up.

T1/T2 probably refers to the Darklight and AF+1 armor vendors in Revenant's Toll.

change your targeting settings, make it so when you have your staff drawn out you only target allies. and if you need to attack enemies just hit the left thumb stick to put it away then target the enemy.

Oh, thanks. Now it makes sense.

Anyone have that link to the blog where they showed which fieldgear was best for each level

I know it was posted in here, can't find it

AK seems to have a lot of abandoned instances stuffing the channel. failed speed run groups like to douche it up and abandon if the group wipes and things take too long in general. i'm not doing speed runs, so sometimes people leave when i tell them that or ask me to leave. that's another abandoned zone.

it seems square has to add an "exploit or no exploit" flag to check for that instance in the future. .

I'm only 40 but it's good to see confirmation that I should be playing dragoon like I'm pulling off a 30 hit combo in a fighting game, complete with mashing for the moves not affected by the main cooldown.

There's probably room to refine the core cycle more from there, and the use of Flare without Convert has some math issues (you gain an extra 110 potency, but can lose up to a tick+1.5 seconds)

Anyone for doing at least 4 runs of AK later tonight? (EU) about 6 hours from now

Blm here, would be nice to get a static for that :/

Tanking is in higher demand through the whole game. Waiting for Queues for Healers gets pretty bad after 30+ as well because that is when Conj/WHM is not the only healer class any more.

Tanks on the other hand are always in demand and still rare.

Ifrit's Codex is mine :)

Just the grimoire needed to re complete my set.

Well, thats a nice thread.

Its somewhat the same I've been doing with my 44 DRG , although I start with the Disembowel combo first, I though it was better to start with it?

Just curious, but how much does character progression open up during the mid-late levels?

From what I've played so far, each class only has a handful of active skills (outside of the pet classes.) For example, playing Archer in the early levels it's Heavy Shot → Straight Shot, Straight Shot, Straight Shot, Straight Shot. Lancer seems a little better with Feint → True → Vorpal → Sweep → Thrust.

It just seems like the classes skills in battle are repetitive. Thaumaturge is Thunder, Fire Fire Fire, Blizzard Blizzard Blizzard.

Does it get better later on? Are there opportunities for meaningful choices in battle? I still haven't played a class past level 10, but Arcanist → SMN / SCH seem like the classes that will have the most variety. Am I wrong?

Cute, even if you are Moon tribe.

you should try out the monk class

Got dropped into Aurum with a mixed-language party. Played interpreter, held the group together, had the best time in an MMO I've had since the good old "flag up and wait" days of FFXI. There's something very, very special about the feeling of adventure that comes from treading new ground with strangers who don't just come from the desert kingdom -and- the forest kingdom, but actually come from all across the world.

One reason I'm not a fan of the game being so depended on latency. Moving my character around to dodge red circles isn't as interesting to me as playing with Japanese or etc. players.

i started as GLD and moved my way up to PLD sitting at level 48 right now. ive never had to wait for a tank so i can't say how rare they are but when im playing the game, i see tons of paladins, like a dime a dozen.

why are tanks so rare then? from experience it seems like the tank gets the most hate and i get berated all the time if i'm not playing almost perfectly, so maybe that's why.

So what are they waiting to actually sell the game again...that the first free month is over and hoping half the people that rushed to 50 stop playing...? I have seen some bad MMO launchs but not being able to buy the game still,2 weeks after the game is released beats them all...

It's one thing to play a tanking capable class and other to actually queue for instances. Some people might just enjoy playing a dude(tte) with a shield, but have no actual desire to socialize or do instances.

Paladin is also an incredibly popular class/archtype. Human Paladins were a hugely popular combo in Wow, I'm not surprised they're popular here.

And yes, not everyone wants to tank dungeons. It's the most demanding role with the most hostile players if you slip up in the slightest. If players weren't routinely such dicks to each other, tanks and/or healers might be more popular, but that ain't happening ;)

Is there a more efficient way for the quests where you need to use a key item on enemies?

Right now i'm targeting mob, press square, key item, dpad to the item, click twice before you can start casting, if you get interrupted you gotta repeat that which sucks.

Well there are only 2 (?) main tank classes iirc and it's a tough job to play a tank, even though healer is pretty much as unthankful job as is a tank there are still much more playing healers than pure tanks.

I think it's also because generally (not sure if that's true for ARR as well, though) a tank is painful to level in most games.

Its not just that, tanks do less damage, so in terms of killing crap for quests its slower. Its a more involved role than dps. Ultimately tanks are default leaders of groups, and thats just not something most people are willing to do.

Further Server and System Improvements

As we continue to address server issues, I would like to follow up on my previous announcement regarding the measures being taken to improve this situation.

With the maintenance completed on September 4, we have increased the number of concurrent connections allowed across all Worlds by roughly 60,000 users. For the time being, however, we believe it necessary to maintain login and character creation restrictions, even though they have inconvenienced many of our players.

With the exception of recently added Worlds, each World can now support 7,300 to 7,800 simultaneous logins. Further increasing this limit runs the risk of causing severe lag in all zones. We will continue monitoring server loads to ensure a stable playing environment as we move forward with our plans.

Following the increase in server capacity, we reached 325,000 simultaneous logins, and we anticipate that this number will only increase. Therefore, as our development and operations teams continue to work towards a full-scale upgrade of our servers and systems in order to accommodate more players, we will continue our suspension of digital sales of the game.

During this time, we will be monitoring connections during peak times for each data center. Once we have confirmed that all Worlds and the zones within them are stable, we will continue to monitor server loads and populations in real time as we prepare to upgrade our servers and make other extensive improvements.

The following is a general outline of our major goals to improve overall server and system stability. Specific details will be announced as soon as they are available.

1. Substantially increase the number of Worlds.
2. Create a third duty finder group to further alleviate server stress.
3. Increase the number of servers used for instances.

Even with the increased capacity of all Worlds, the number of simultaneous logins is still reaching the limit. Because increasing server capacity further would result in significant stress to individual zones, frequent restrictions on character creation have been necessary for the most heavily populated Worlds.

Furthermore, since simply adding new Worlds would heavily stress the Duty Finder system, a significant increase to the number of Worlds will be accompanied by the creation of a third Duty Finder group for each data center. We will also increase the number of servers used for instances. We believe these steps will allow for a marked increase in the number of concurrent connections our servers can maintain.

With that said, we have also noticed that many players are leaving their characters idle in game due to the login restrictions we have set in place to maintain server stability. In response to requests to address this issue, we are working to implement a feature that will automatically log out characters that are idle for a prolonged period of time.

The above improvements are scheduled to be implemented next week. We will make an announcement at the beginning of next week with further details.

4. Commence World transfer service.

In addition to our above plans to improve server stability, we will begin service for World transfers. Players who were unable to join their desired World due to character creation restrictions will now be able to move to a World of their choosing.

We realize many players would like to play together with their friends, and preparations for the World transfer service are a top priority. We are also working towards resuming digital sales for those who had planned to purchase the game but were unable to do so.

5. Begin large-scale improvements for long term operations.

Next year will see the PlayStation 4 release and another influx of players. In order to ensure the best experience for all of our customers and customers-to-be, we are carefully monitoring our operations as we continue planning extensive changes to improve the game.

Again, we sincerely apologize for any inconveniences caused by the current restrictions to logins, character creation, and digital sales. I assure you that our entire company is working tirelessly to improve your gaming experience, and we hope we can count on your continued support.

well in this game, its all about spaming threat at fates, so paladins don't have it too bad as other games lol.

weirdly enough, its usually the other classes that die in dungeons, and its not from me bad tanking. Stop being stubborn, casters. 300 more damage doesn't mean shit if you are dead.

Tonight if I can't get into Sastasha after an hour of waiting with my dps then I'm just going to carry on with the healer. I don't have the time to just sit there waiting and knowing my luck it will go terribly with people leaving and all sorts of nonsense.

You made a new char? Why not just level up a healer class on your existing one?

Finally finished AK, just had to find a better spot to tank the final boss.
The spot I had been told to tank it in wasn't very good for healers.
fixed that and it wasn't bad .

I'd like to know too. I've just been swapping my right hand over to mouse for those.

As for numbers, 325k concurrent is gooooooood if it holds up and continues to grow. Isn't that about where SWTOR peaked? And that had a lot more variance between peak and downtime.

kinda wish paladin had some awesome aura thing... everyone else seems to get something, or something floating around ya.

I don't think the oath's give you any visual stuff.

anything later?

I've noticed two types of groups that I meet during the duty finder, first being the sleep strategy kind, these folks tend to be smart enough to know what to do while following marks on mobs made by me, though there are a few who don't do it constantly during fights which forces me to change strategy mid fight~ :P

The other being the AOE variety, these folks like dem AOE's forcing me as a tank to keep all mobs constantly on hate, which isn't an issue for me anymore since I've been doing it for so long it's second nature now... xD;

Also here's a question I wanted to ask you folks, who do think should deal with the marking?
does it always have to be me as a tank? Or does it depend on the players?
Cause when I first started tanking I ran into a healer who said it was my job to mark 'em and not his to show who he was sleeping...? Saying no healers ever mark(Something I do as a healer myself... :P)
Is he right? Or was he just being a lazy arse...?

Is it better to level your main class to 50 or take up a few jobs like weaver/botanist along the way and level them up at the same time? Obviously it comes down to how you want to play the game, but I'd like to know some of your opinions.

Still banned after being hacked by a gold farmer...no way to check on the status of the ticket, apparently? It's been like 5 days. Every time I call the phone number, it is immediately busy.

The tank SHOULD take initiative and be the one marking mobs and basically leading the group through the dungeon. And if people aren't following your markings and attacking the correct mobs, call them out on it. The tank should be the one controlling the encounters.

That said, I've been in a few groups where the casters knew what they were doing well enough to follow my lead, mark all the right targets, and cast their sleeps accordingly. When this happens that's obviously one less thing for the tank to worry about and everyone benefits. When I'm playing with my friend and we're on skype together this is usually how we run, but occasionally you will find yourself in a DF group with a mage that actually knows his shit.

I mark them as a tank, it's easier for the tank to mark it because he's the one charging in, for the adds I don't think it matters, but you may as well mark those too, I sometimes only mark the first mob as my friend would sleep whichever she wants, and I'd mark the adds accordingly depend on which one is slept and which isn't.

Ran Brayflox with Capell (Yo, Capell!) as summoner looking to complete the Battlemage gear set. DF wait took nearly an hour (guess that's to be expected). Oddly lucky with the loot today, managed to get gloves, belt, robes and an arcanist ring to boot.
Battlemage set complete!

About marking: I think the onus is on the tank as unofficial 'leader' to mark what they want the DPS to focus on, but also I think that if someone is going to sleep something they should mark it with an 'ignore' sign.

Okay: really, REALLY stupid question ahead.

How do I get my chocobo mount? I'm level 22 and completed every quest so far and nothing.

You have to join a Grand Company (part of the story) then they'll give you a quest where you have to earn 2,000 GC seals to earn your mount.
