I don't know what that guy was complaining about not making money on gathering stuff. Shit sells for crazy money, if your a crafter you essentially have to gather or pay ridiculous mat prices.

=O

That's it, I'm taking up mining today. How long did it take you to reach level 50? And at what level were you able to start mining HQ ores/shards?

Took a week. I was sucking dick for leve allowances.

I don't understand him either. Talk about misinformed...

Well, that's because there aren't many high level miners yet. Eventually the supply will become greater than the demand and the price cutting will ensue. Gathering as it stands only reward the pioneers since without the randomness the only thing that prevents anyone from getting anything is his/her level.

Even lower level mats sell for high prices. The entire economy of the game right now is quite bloated with people also paying high prices for mediocre gear.

I've seen people sell dungeon gear for TONS on the market board - how are they doing that? I can't even sell the dungeon loot I get (greyed out). Are we able to craft dungeon gear at higher levels?

Is there a specific leve worth spamming?

Awesome... I've got like 80 allowances stored up! Should I just blow them all on the mining class at a specific level?

I'm already seeing the $_$

Level 25 onwards is when you should start doing leves. Any leve with evaluation bonuses will grant good EXP.

I would also get gathering manuals (40k exp) from your Grand Company. You will need to use up a lot of leves to get to 50, but it's worth it.

Started weaver last night, I have no idea how to read the crafting menu in terms of what mats are needed and how many I have. Any good place explains this for idiots like me?

Had my first "weird" duty finder experience that night.

Me and 2 friends did Dzaemel Darkhold for the first time but we needed a healer so the duty finder got us a scholar. The guy was quiet, never uttered a word, and just dropped party mid-fight. We didnt even hit the first boss yet.

Replacement WHM is found and he works out fine until the second boss. I dont exactly know why but he couldnt keep himself alive. I think he just couldnt avoid the crazy AOE fireballs during that one or something. After 3 tries, he just says "Im sorry guys. I cant do this." and then leaves.

Another replacement WHM joins. It started off rocky against that second boss again but things ended up working out and we took him to the end with around 6 minutes remaining. He was a good WHM and I was glad he got stuck with us.We got WHM gear from the chest too and I was happy to let him have it.

Dd Ifrit Hard in the DF and got hit a few times because of positioning. Someone bitches but still goes smoothly otherwise. Joke's on them, I got the claws on my first try.

Seriously though, they need to give me the ability to reach through the screen and slap these assholes.

those loudmouths are usually the first to die in a run. i had one yelling and bitching on hard ifirt yesterday too. now guess who ran to middle and got charged to death by ifrit. at least it looked funny.

So, as a paladin, reading all the stuff on reddit makes me scared to hit 50. Is every group really just a dickhead, speedrun, ilvl70 or gtfo group?

Or will I be able to actually learn this stuff as I go once I hit 50?

Can't say much about NA side, but JPs are a lot more forgiving in this aspect. Best thing you can do is learn about dungeons you'll be spamming at 50 with a bunch of friends at first so you can learn the hang of it, and once you are comfortable, lead parties via DF.
Tanks are almost always in control of leading the raid, so you should prepare yourself for that much at least.

In my personal experiance there is a wide variety of people at level 50. Some forgiving and helpful, others mean.

I'm betting people that are already level cap 2 weeks or so after a mmo launch... not to be the most patient bunch.

no offense to gaffers at cap.

Stay away from the DF. Try to put together an FC group that will understand that you are new to the content and are ok with you having to learn and making mistakes. Even people who have sped run the instances into oblivion make mistakes; I know I still do.

Hit me up when you are ready to run 50 instances (Reyvia Carwyn), I am more than happy to run them through with you as you learn. Hopefully with the upcoming maintenance we won't have to wait an hour to get into an instance.

Yeah...now I wish I had joined Ultros :(

I'm in some shitty FC that I only joined for the 5% exp bonus, but they don't even keep that active 24/7. My only friend (the reason I'm on Lamia in the first place) is only like 19.

Hopefully I'll find a legit FC in the next 10 levels, or I'll take the DF plunge.

And I don't want to have to research these dungeons just to do them.

I did a AV run yesterday with dps that attacked his own target and ignored mine(tank target), pulled and attacked first, opened fights with weapon skill..

Did what i always do...just let it happen and let him tank it, i was shocked that nobody in the party said anything about it...but to my surprise at the final boss the healer start talking and said that the dps was the best he ever saw and the tank is the worst.

Funny i thought healer will be mad at the dps for ruining the aggro chain by pulling mobs, attacking his own and opening fights with s skill but it seems that there is a lot of players does not understand aggro and hate in this game.

I swear, from now on, if I have to use DF, I am going to just drop the group if I have assholes in the group who are being rude and disrespectful. Seriously, I can't be bothered with this shit in a game.

Thank god I found a really nice FC with people who know what they are doing.

Did the healer have issues with having to chain cast heal the dps?

Eh...the only time I feel bad about losing agro is when the healer grabs it. 99% of the time whenever dps grabs agro, especially after you have most of your enmity skills, it's because they're focusing on their own mob or doing something stupid.

I'm surprised more people haven't learned about threat management, but then again I guess if they haven't played a PLD/WAR in this game, then they don't get what the big deal is.

edit: I will admit that I'm really bad about marking mobs. Truth is, though, that 3/4 groups don't need them marked.

It's probably based solely on the fact that all he sees is the dps doing a ton of dmg and mobs dropping faster than normal while the tank can't hold hate on off-mobs.

If we aren't paying too close attention to a fight, healers can tend to focus solely on HP and not enough on other factors. I know I've done this before and been slow on doling out Esuna when needed or been inside an aoe. It's not a good trait to have.

Have a dumb question that I can't find an answer to elsewhere, so here we go: When choosing your character's b-day, why do the days fall behind starting from the 29th? My b-day is March 29th, but if I choose the 29th Sun, it comes out as 3/28. To actually get 3/29 I have to choose the 30th Sun. Am I missing something obvious here?

Marking mobs is always a good thing and wish I had realized this sooner during p3 while running a tank. Being able to focus-fire on one mob instantly and allowing the BLM or the healer (if able) to sleep secondary and tertiary mobs fast to make everyone's lives a bit easier.

Im really enjoying this game. The crafting system is amazing and so are the graphics. The music really is good, i actually want to listen to it. I love when I level up and hear that classic FF Jingle. Currently leveling a Puglist, Goldsmith and miner. Im playing on the Midgardsormr server, character's name is Cyan Justice if any of you guys wanna add me to your friends list or linkshell.

My fiance and I are on Lamia and our concern is finding a good FC... if don't mind my asking, which FC are you in?

Yes. The Eorzean calendar has the same number of days for every month. To convert that to the Gregorian calendar, they had to combine some days.

Question for fellow WHMs out there. Is there any utility in using Holy during the 8-man raids? I know you get aoe stun, but has a high mana cost that could be used elsewhere and has a long cast time to boot. Sure, you can pop Swiftcast, but I like to keep that up at all times in the case that we have a dps or healer gets 1-shotted.

Not too much utility. It's useful in hard mode Garuda at points to have a WHM run in and holy the feathers but I don't think its necessary if you have a decently geared group.

Aside from that scenario I have not seen holy used at all.

It's honestly pointless doing Ifrit hard mode without a Black Mage, I had the best tanking/stunning combination yesterday Warrior (me)+Paladin, but had one bard and three Dragoons...

They couldn't take the nails out.

Thanks. I've seen Holy used in the Castrum raids both by complete idiots (a lot) and by much more capable players (much fewer). Tbh, I have it on one of my active toolbars but was thinking of moving it off to my dps bar since it seems like such a waste to use in a serious battle.

It's best to find a group of people to play with.

Not wasting loot becauses it's being distributed to your team for maximum potential.

Not dealing with dicks.

But, from my experience in wow, if a core team needs a tank and can't go without one, they will be patient if you are competent in learning strat and they don't bar entry to people who already completed it.

You really need coordinated DPS to take out the nails without an AOE limit break. The times I have done it have pretty much had all DPS work on nails in a clockwise fashion with one of the DPS popping limit break immediately (usually a 2 bar) and pretty much destroying it. In the process of DPSing the nails down another LB bar is filled up and that is popped immediately. The rest of the nails are killed normally. The tank(s) must be helping out by DPSing on the closest nails to them and usually in this process one more bar is built up to help everyone through the AOE dmg once the nails are down.

It's tough depending on gear level and coordination but is doable.

Well fuck me then since sure as hell am not doing fishing as dont have enough inventory space between myself and retainers. D:

Well, fishing is really easy in comparison to the other gathering jobs. Plus you can get upwards of 3000-4000 xp per catch for HQ. About half is used for crafting, the other half has no value other than vendor trash (or turn in's for GC supply & provision).

What I want to know is where the heck do I get aldgoat skin imtrying to level leatherworker further and all my recipes prettyuch require it now.
Farm Myotragus Billy/Nanny in Drybone (E. Thanalan) area. They also drop aldgoat horns and aldgoat chunks, so you will have to be patient building up aldgoat skins.

now that the PS3 gamers will get the PS4 version free... I kinda regret not getting it.

Is anywhere still selling the PS3 CE?

I ended up buying it for that reason too, but it seems like the CE is getting very hard to find. I lucked out yesterday and happened upon a store that had a cancelled CE preorder. I think that would be your best bet at this point - calling around to see if anyone has preorders that weren't picked up that they can sell you.

darn :/ problem is now I'm in Singapore... can't really call and check anywhere.
SE store now has the PC CE back in stock though

People keep saying this but i dont see it confirmed anywhere.

yep i did mark the mobs until i saw that nobody really cared and completely ignored it, Healer was definitely working very hard to keep dps alive.

Same here, i don't care alot if dps pulled aggro but what always happen is like this

dps pulls aggro>> me trying to get the aggro back>>dps still spamming tp moves>> me thinks "well..if it's like this then i let you tank in hope you get killed"> here the healer will start spamming all kind of healing spells on the dps to keep him alive>> healer get the aggro >> everybody looks at the tank wants him to "fix this shit tank!"

It's probably based solely on the fact that all he sees is the dps doing a ton of dmg and mobs dropping faster than normal while the tank can't hold hate on off-mobs.

probably this is what was going on or they played FFXI for a long time and think dps(Archer/Bard) can pull mobs to the "camp" since that what he was trying to do
