Can't say I'm feeling this game so far to be honest, I had a bit of a love affair with FFXI and played it for a few years - and I think what helped was that it was my first (and only MMO) but I started off at the same time as a great group of people and we all stuck together the whole time I played it.

With this game I was hoping to relive some of that good feeling, but so far it just feels like there are a few thousand people all just happening to be playing a single player game in the same game world.

No one even bothers talking to you. I have started as a WHM (same as I started with in XI) and in XI people used to be so thankful for a quick heal as you passed them by, or a raise if they were lying there dead.

So far I've healed a few folk to save them from what looked like certain death, and raised a couple of players, and no one has even uttered a quick "ty". It feels so unfriendly.

Trouble is, a lot of the people I played XI with started this theday it was re-released, and I couldn't start it then sadly. So they are way ahead of me as I couldn't create a character for ages because the server was locked. So so far I've played up to level 17 on my own. Just mooching around doing whatever side quests I can and a few story missions.

And the worse thing....which I know a lot probably won't miss. No real time air ships and ferries. I used to love the down time sat just having a chat with friends while traveling or waiting for the next ferry to arrive.

I know I should be treating it as its own game, but it just doesn't feel anything like I imagined it would. I miss those big open fields and being scared of starting off not wanting to travel any further than a few yards from the gates of Windurst.

Still, only been playing 3 days so perhaps once I get a involved with a party and do a dungeon or something, I'll start to fall in love with it.

Got to say I'm finding targeting NPC's and non-party members with a gamepad to be a pain in the arse though!

You're not the only one that feels this way. Chatting on the real time travel was so great in XI, and even in WoW.

I really wish the pacing in this game was better. I was ready to quit due to how tedious it was to get from 43 to 44 but I decided I'd just run fates whilst I listened to an audio book and see if things get any better at 44. I'm glad that I did given I blazed through 44 to 45 and had my best dungeon experience in the game so far at Darkhold. I really wish they made things outside of dungeons more fun outside of the narrative.

The Gil in this game is a joke. Once you've depleted your amount you're basically screwed. I burned trough a lot on alchemy and now I barely have enough to get by for repairs. You're forced to play the market which at this point in time is hiiighly unstable and almost a gamble. No Gil fountains at 50, just the repair sink and profession sinks.

To top that off my materia I need for my relic quest is 70k and I need two of them. So how in the world am I supposed to get 140k in this game?

Ul'dah's theme is forever stuck in my head. Forever. I worked a long twelve hour third shift last night and the theme played in my head the entire time, driving me completely insane.

It reminds me of one of FFVII's themes.

It's time to start mining non-stop and selling shards/ores in the market board.

I've been playing it up on goblin for a week now with a friend. This game , so far, is quite a bit of fun. I got really lucky in sastasha and ended up with a pirate hat, pirate suit and a cudgel (playing a thaumaturge). Then in Tam Tara I got earrings and boots. First time through each area and I got almost a complete gear set so that was cool.

Also got to play with 2 other great people , my buddy went for a tank and I chose dps so we could both start off in Ul ' dah. Up next it looks like I've got Copperbell mines and my level 20 class quest ... also I should be able to go get a chocobo soon right ?

I really wish someone would rip the FF prologue theme from this.
Hate having to watch a cutscene over and over for that one little part.

Main thing that should have been on the OST.

Come to Ultros if you arent already. Plenty of highs and lows, but i've seen people thank others for passing help. Whether attacks or heals.

Also you should have had a dungeon or guildhest party by now at level 17.

Yeah I had my first opportunity to do a guildhest today. But was alone so obviously couldn't do it. I want to stay on Moogle as my friends are still there to talk to. But I think I will create a character on a different server and see how things are :)

I completed the story today. Did Cape Westwind and Castrum Meridianum with a group comprised mostly of GAF FC members, while for Praetorium I just used the DF.
All in all it went well, after a shaky start in Westwind. We also had a little setback in Castrum, but otherwise it was smooth and took very little time, all considered.

Preatorium was different. We wiped a bit on the bosses as we proceeded, though we still managed to finish with more than 30 minutes left. There would be something to say about how we managed to kill
Ultima Weapon's first form
, with me basically dancing between those aoe while trying to keep alive the 4 or 5 people left (the same thing more or less happened again for the second form XD. We managed to fill the 3rd Limit bar too as the boss was almost dead, and they decided to save it.... only to be depleted as we went to the next fight QQ.

If there is something positive I can say about the shit-hole that is Qarn, it's that the experience with the last boss, running around like a madman trying to keep the tank alive while dodging all kind of beams and aoe, proved useful.

Also, no one complained about people watching cutscenes.

This sounds so right up my alley.

EDIT: When we start seeing other really high tech areas in the future, I wouldnt mind Hamazu stepping in with some tracks. Say what you will about XIII-2 but the majority of the soundtrack was stellar stuff.

It will be slow, but you could earn some of those 70k materias yourself. I'm in the process of doing so right now. make no mistake, the process is fairly time consuming (why they are not cheap) but I have one so far so i have saved a pretty penny.

I am also leveling alchemy in between cooking and botany and basically breaking even at 36. Find out the mats you need and plan ahead by either getting the right gathering profession to farm the mats yourself, playing the AH if they are cheap, or asking a GC member for advice/help/a deal on mats they might have that you need. There's a reason these crafting professions are actual classes, you're supposed to dedicate time to them (or money I guess).

I didn't want to but I guess im going to need a supporting job.
you just don't make gil at hight levels. Why do level 50 dungeons still give such a small amount of gil then add to that you cant trade or sell gear from those dungeons either.

Have to farm Ice crystals for 30 minutes to an hour just to make back enough for a full repair. Which isn't that bad except you also have to farm for Tomes on dungeons over and over just to get some gear so you can move on.
probably going to roll armorer.

Why is Paladin called a job? I aint getting paid for it...

They should have daily and weekly bounties that just offer a large amount of Gil.

Would you mind explaining how exactly I'd go about getting the materia myself? I know it's from assimilation but I'm not sure of the gear, etc.

I'm on Goblin as well. If you see me on say hi! My name in the game is Nerys Kira.

I asked on the FC but got mixed responses.

What is the general direction of endgame right now?

Ifrit -> Dungeons -> Other stuff?

Ifrit -> Wanderer's Palace -> Amadpor keep -> Garuda-> Titan -> coil of bahamut

Level 45-49, the materia is random from the pool of stats of the item.

Do Ifrit over and over till you get your weapon, Do dungeons over and over for tomes
once you have full darklight do Garuda, Then Titan then get Relic Weapon.
Then move on

Figuring out the logistics of i70 crafting is beginning to give me a headache. Why does it cost me 3,375 tomestones in ingredients and the actual ingredients to craft Vanya gloves of healing? Especially when ditching the materia allotments for slightly better base stats on darklight is ultimately more prudent?

edit: i mean breeches

because it's expensive to be a unique snowflake

Well, I actually think it's somewhat..not fun. You are doing Quicktongue as well right? We have pretty much the most expensive and exasperating materia. Materia itself seems fairly random (I disenchanted a lvl49 mage stat belt just now with fingers crossed and got...wind materia 3?) but Green DoM gear of at around level 45+ is where you wanna go. You have to wear it long enough to spiritbond it obviously (which sucks at higher levels) then convert it and get lucky. If you convert a piece of DoM gear and get *insert materia here* lvl 3 that should be the right level. I get Chimera tells all the time so clearly a lot of people are getting theirs (and I'm just a little bitter about it). I've actually been looking around to see if certain pieces of gear have better odds but haven't really found anything.

Right now i am basically "working" on greens while earning my blues, then when i get a blue i roll Need on green DoM stuff I don't have so i can work on Spiritbonding that. Let me be frank: It's really, really slow going for me. But I haven't bought any spiritbonding+ GC gear, and I might be "doing it wrong" since I'm not 100% sure on the most effective spiritbond techniques.

My advice was more tailored to not burning money via crafting. Even though it's not near as harsh as FF11 was with its random skillups, I have to remember that it is certainly more harsh than things like WoW which more people would be used to.

Start your Relic quest asap. From there its grinding Tomes in Ampador's Keep or Castrum M (premade) while finishing the various relic steps. Once you have full darklight (takes ~60 AK runs or 50ish CMs), then you can start looking for a group that'll take you into Bahamuts Coil.

yo how many tomes do you get for that per min

Lol wish I could get that joke. Dont think I'm that high level right now. Is it like a glitched quest or something?

Anyway, I submitted a bug report. Nonetheless, I got to see this interesting sight:

If I'm all AF armor, lvl 45+ accessories and a 45 GC bow, can I do pretty much any of the dungeons?

You can do Ifrit and The Wanderers Palace anytime with decent level 50 equip. You'll want Ifrit weapon. It's an easy, repeatable fight, unlike Garuda.

Many do Amdapor Keep in AF, but if you are a DPS you should definitely get some pieces at the wanderers palace first. Tank and healers get some leeway due to how easy AK is to tank. (the only boss that requires some attention is the first one)

Don't touch Garuda until you have almost every piece from AK or Darklight.

How do the GAF Ifrit runs go? I was helping out some other FC members with Titan and then had to step out for the day so I hope everything went well.

Hey man, friend and I are also playing on Goblin and I'm level 23. Add me. I'm Silvaire Fousquenet.

Haha, you've been asking about this since OT1 and still no rip? That theme must be godly.
Yup,
It has 2 or 3 versions and one of them I actually liked more than the VIII version which was my previous favorite.
I have checked nearly every soundtrack video uploaded to youtube(almost every day) and still no luck.

maybe it was just the scene that made it that way but it was great. even the basic version you hear early on was good.

My opinion on the game thus far is that it's a wonderful game with a ton of potential but Christ almighty did it need a fuck ton more play testing. Lots of very simple, very glaring design faults on otherwise great systems that I truly hope they start trying to mop up.

Class design is my only true area of complaint where I don't expect any quick reiteration. They played it extremely safe using a lot of simple, generic kit but despite that there's still a hell of a lot of clunk and poorly tuned nonsense.

Oh, also, they really, really needed more battle music. I'd be happy if they just brought back some of the great stuff from the original game.

Second trip through Temple of Qarn today, only wiped once on the first boss, and only because one aspect of his mechanics slipped my mind.

Provoke, helps, a, LOT with Tanking!!!

If you're a War/MRD, and haven't leveled your Gladiator to get Provoke, do it now! It'll take a fair bit of time, but it greatly simplifies the job of tanking, since it allows you to pull back aggro once stolen without spamming Overkill and praying.

To be fair to PS3 players, emoting and text entry are unwieldy enough that the person might be wanting to thank you, but by the time he figures out what buttons to press, you're already gone.

Is there a way to write a macro that will automatically send an emote/tell to someone in that situation? I'd love to do that, as I too am finding the lack of interaction, and the general difficulty of interaction (PS3 player) to be disappointing.

I know I need it. I just don't like GLD at all. :(

It would be nice to have a quick Thank You Macro for that situation. Heck, I'm playing on PC, and have a keyboard right here, but even THEN, by the time I switch to, "shout," and have the message typed out, the caster is frequently gone.

I do frequently put the, "bow," emote into the hotbar for those situations, but a lot of players don't seem to notice.

GLD becomes a bit more fun if you have Shield Bash, and have equipped a shield with a high block rate. Then you end up having to interrupt your regular boring combo's with a high damage attack stun attack, whenever you see that you've blocked some damage.

Makes things a little more interesting at least.
