When you hit level 10, and finish your class guild quest at that level, you'll get the freedom to join any other guild you like, this is where you can pick up the crafting/gathering professions in addition to the battle classes.
I took up 4 of those professions, but it's quite tricky to balance at the lower level, because they need a fair bit of money investment (or freedom to travel across various locations) which can be a bit restricting if you're not too far in the story, like myself.
Oh, wow, so we're all screwed, then. Looks like I was quick to judge, sorry!

Guessing you did the same thing as me, and registered wrong service account? Hope you get through to the support eventually. I called them at about 12:54PM EST, still waiting on my PS3 fix. PC users are getting it fixed right away at least. Or few hours after.
I believe that's a multi-part quest, but you should definitely get Holy after you complete it.

Well here's hoping everything goes smoothly. It's definitely an extended period of time but if it fixes the issues we've been having [at least on the NA/EU servers, I'm not entirely sure how things are in Japan] it will be worth it.
At the very least it will give us all a temporary break, albeit a forced one.

Don't worry about it, I've been playing since phase 4 beta, and I'm not past level 20 yet ;D There'll always be some GAFers to play with.

Did my level 20 CNJ quest just about ten minutes before maintenance started. Already got ARC to 15 so now I can concentrate on trying to unlock WHM. May also give SCH a shot down the line, we'll see.
Maybe I'm just being jealous but I kind of would have liked to see CNJ and WHM have more access to some of the ARC's stuff. I don't expect getting to summon my Carbuncle buddy but shoot, at least let me have stuff like Bio or even Shadow Flare when it comes to that.

He drops mantles, which are essentially tokens that you can exchange for the loot. From what I could gather when he was killed on Excalibur: Gold gets 5 mantles (enough for an item), silver gets 1 mantle, and bronze just gets seals.
All the crafting quests go all the way up to 50 and give you a special tool at the end.BlazingDarkness said:

In your GC quarters. In the supply missions or whatever is called, there's a tab in which you can trade green/pink gear. The higher the levels the more seals.
Right now on a new server, a million for rich, filthy rich 2+ million.
Also... soon... soon... at least now I have my Unfinished Curtana.
Aside from names and fan services everything is different. They don't follow even vaguely similar philosophies.

It's really night and day, and there are very few comparisons outside some Final Fantasy standards. The gameplay is totally different, the world is totally different. Where FFXI was made to greatly encourage groups by making things near impossible to do on your own, FFXIV is far more solo friendly, with even casual players able to partake in much of the games content on their own.

One thing I noticed and really really want and not in 3 months. With the way they changed tradecraft leves and how you need your OWN materials for these you're expected to have a lot more materials in general if you want to do leves. Well they need to fix the freaking inventory and get a sort function in the game ASAP.

For one it doesn't take a year just to get anywhere. I swear, it might take sometimes up to 20-30 minutes just to get across a single map, ugh.

I was in the Brayflox instance and the team members were worried that we wouldn't finish in time so we fought a lot lf monsters with five mins left before 7pm CST.

All true, however when I started playing XIV, I got XI vibes all over the places. It's different, but you can definitely tell this is an MMO set in the FF universe. Not just in it's characters and story, but in that intangible feeling I get from the game.

I noticed you can just buy HQ items from the marketplace, use them to complete the leve, get a shit load of bonus exp and gil, and then go back to the marketplace and buy more HQ items with your profits, rinse and repeat lol No need to do actual crafting. :v
Sorry for the auto-quote but since it was at the end of the page I suppose nobody read it. Could anybody enlighten me please? XDI need some advice about the game. I bought FFXIV vanilla when it launched on PC and stopped playing after like 3 days because I thought it was a clusterfuck. From the first OT I understood I don't need to buy anything else to play ARR (I don't want the L.E. or the additional items) but how am I supposed to do? I can't upgrade the game from the version 1.0, I should uninstall it, but in my account information page on FFXIV site I can't go on to download the game. Do I need to cancel the previous account and use the previous code on a newly one? Will I be able to download the client after that step? It's not clear what I'm supposed to do on the site

I have sat in a chat queue for a total of 5 1/2 hours and I have been booted all 3 times at the top of a queue for there being "no available agent" even though the Queue moved me forward over time.
Then, I called their phone support number and it actually gives me a dial tone. Yes, a multi-million dollar company has a phone support line that gives you a busy tone. I am convinced it goes straight to someone's house.
This is fucking ridiculous. I have never encountered worse support for an MMO.

I do however feel like the last boss should have been a bit harder coming off the previous two.

If you've got more than 500$ of currency, you're rich. That evens out at roughly 1mil, standing to the latest annoying spammer.

I'll say this much, if this game had the wide open...hella open areas of XI, I could maybe get some FATE's done on my own and really bring in the exp...provided I don't run out of mp first.
