After a bit of a getaway from the girl, I'm back on Arshe for the rest of the week with the goal of 50 w/ complete storyline. I hope I get the chance to party with some Gaffers along the way either by FATEs or dungeons.

Otherwise, you'll see me leveling up mining as I believe I've found my lot in life when it comes to gathering/crafting. I love the gathering part of things for some odd reason, so I'll be leveling those up with the goal of being the "supplier" part of the circle of life. lol

How does partying up give more seals?

I thought the only upside was more mobs credits for individual XP.

I don't believe there is any other incentive to party up except that its much easier to gold medal a FATE. Personally, I been soloing FATEs because I like doing other things in-between.

That's in Amdapoor Keep btw... I offtanked every pull up to the first boss as a WHM because the tank never picked up anything but his initial target. A mixture of bombing heals on myself + him + sleeping the odd mob here and there got us to the first boss where we ended up just disbanding when he couldn't pick up any of the adds nor hold on to the boss.

Right after that Ragnar came and laid the smack down tank-wise.

For Squid face you might want to have the dps tank the golems, overall they don't do much damage and if it's a PLD tank he can stun the Void Lighting III (1800+ damage on the main tank) and Spirit Within to silence Mind Melt (AoE damage to the whole group), with this it makes the healers job a lot easier as the only real damage comes from Water spells (300 damage) on the Main Tank and Golem damage on the dps.

I think you have to move out of the way before the meter gets anywhere near finished. Even if you move before the attack commences, it has to be early on.

Yep. I mentioned this earlier in the thread, but it doesn't work like WoW, GW2, or any other game that uses the same red ground markers. Your best bet it to move immediately, and to be even safer go well outside the actual border. I don't like it, but I'm adjusting. I just feel like if they are going to give graphical feedback it should be precise, and the red marker is anything but.

im wondering if anyone else has been hesitant to use their skill points. im at level 33 and ive got like 12 skills points but refuse to set them on any stat right now.

It's a bit expensive, but you can reset them if you don't like how you spend them which made me worry about it a lot less. I'm sure people here can tell you the best use of them, from what I've seen, there is generally just one stat above all others that really matters depending on your class/job.

Being a Thaumaturge [soon-to-be Black Mage], it's extremely simple for me.

Intelligence.
Intelligence.
Piety...Just kidding, Intelligence.

Depends. What are you playing?

right now only class i have leveled up is gladiator. the obvious selections would be vitality or maybe strength, but what happens if i have a change of heart in my class later on (maybe after they add new classes?) and i cant level up anymore and my skills points are already set.

Silly question, how do you take screenshots? I searched for the keybinding but must have overlooked it hundreds of times.

Print Screen.

Don't you get a separate set for each class? The worry is about changing spec later, when classes that aren't ACN get branching jobs.
(Says the person who's only taken one combat job over 20 in three years of owning the game...)

If you change to a new class you start over at level 1 and get new points to spend along the way.

Each class has their own allocated stats. So if you get Vit for your GLD, it stays. Other classes you'll get to use whatever stat want. Though you can later on purchase a voucher from your GC to reset those points.

Yeah, I've been farming the place for quite a bit now. The problem was that the tank didn't even pick up the boss, it was free casting on me.

If you're doing FATEs, your entire party shares a ranking. So being in a full group pretty much guarantees that you'll get gold, while some tougher bosses or more chaotic trash rushes tend to hand out silver to soloers.

Ahhh, I'm level 40 now and have never had any trouble getting a gold as a soloer. Does that change in the last 10 levels?

Or maybe it's just really easy for a BLM (it probably is, AoE...)

But do you actually get more kills credit EXP by partying up?

New Error Code is winning by a lot. Any guesses on what the new error will be?

I'll go ahead and guess 15024.

503 Service Unavailable.

Some NMs can be a bit finicky, but for normal FATEs I've mainly silvered because my instacast macro is on a really inconvenient button to hit when I'm trying to grind while working. :lol

When does Gladiator become fun? I've gotten to lvl9/10 before on it and I just sit there hacking away hoping I'm geared to win by attrition. Do dungeons make it better? Just get to 15 and run them all day or what?

Voted new error code, because let's be real.

Yep, when a game company has a serious disaster on their hands, that's the go-to "solution".
No more RROD, but here... have some E74.
My favorite was actually GAF's "routine maintenance" message every time the site crashed.

Yeah, I might just wait until they get this stuff sorted out.

I stumbled upon a copy of the CE so I couldn't wait. I went to the store to pickup Diablo 3 and this saved me from that fate. At least there are a lot of demos on PSN today. /glass half full

edit: Time to see what Hunter's Trophy 2 is all about!

10 is nowhere, most classes have 3-4 offensive abilities by then, you won't complete your rotations until later

There's tons of ways to level up. Fate chaining in full parties is the fastest, or go questing, or run dungeons, or do guildhests, or do leves, or go hunting, or farm mobs for stuff to craft/sell while waiting on nearby fates, or gather while doing the same.

ooh ok, that makes it easier to decide then. i thought it was like shared points across all classes. i think i will dump most of the points into vitality then. i guess if dont use them im actually wasting the benefit they would provide and i made it worse on myself. glad i asked about it.

You do realize all classes/job get their own bonus attribute points, right?

Each class gets 30 bonus points to allocate, so if you get MRD/WAR to 50 you have 30 points to play with, mostly all go into STR
If you switch to another class, those bonus point dont carry over, they aren't shared

The new class/job will have to be leveled up and you'll get bonus points all over again

This isn't permanent stats that are shared through all classes/job
Each have their own 30 points to put into what you like

If you fuck up somehow, it will cost 10,000 GC seals
(Happened to me, I somehow made the mistake and put one point into MND as BLM, so I used the Hymn you can purchase from the GC, erased and got all bonus points into INT)
10K make look huge, but trust me you can get them back ASAP, I got 35K in 2 days after spending the 10K

I know most of this from my 50 Bard, it's more of a Gladiator only problem, I want to try levelling a tank and I feel Marauder may be too much for me given it's a more skilled tank class but Gladiator is just a slog to level in the early days thanks to no DPS and enemies which are few levels higher can overwhelm when trying to do the hunting log because you've so few skills to use. Obvious answer would be go Marauder but I'm afraid it would be too difficult.

Still haven't made a character yet, seems I'm not allowed to (or at least I wasn't last night).

What class is considered "useful"? I was thinking Bard perhaps. They seem to be useful in other MMOs.

Is piety pointless? Do you just have so much mp there's no reason to level it?

As a THM/BLM, MP doesn't have very many obvious advantages at this point.
It will also have VERY clearly defined stepping points in the future (read, only useful if it gives an extra Fire).
It's kind of comparable to the various TP benefits in FFXI, I guess? Except 5hit is VERY visibly better than 6hit, and Firaga/Fire/Fire/Fire/Fire/Fire/Fire/Blizzaga/Thunder/Firaga is not much visibly better than Firaga/Fire/Fire/Fire/Fire/Fire/Blizzaga/Thunder/Firaga.

So partying for FATEs wield more xp?

Yes

If you have a light/full party, all mobs killed by your party reward you XP
This is a bonus XP while your doing the FATE

Higher the chain, extra % added into the mix

Also say you are far away and reach the FATE @80% finished/down, you just need to hit it twice or even one move that damages it and you get rewarded full Gold FATE ranking
Your party damage overall helps your FATE ranking

The more party members the more XP you will chain off the FATE mobs and then when it's over get rewarded more lump sum XP and Seals
That's why the higher FATEs are necessary to be teamed up

You don't even need the tank/healer/dd setup

I once was in a party that was 1 tank, 7 dd's, we obliterated the south shroud Quarrymill FATE area 25-30 was wicked quick

But do you actually get more kills credit EXP by partying up?

It's simply easier to hit cap with a party. I can as a SMN show up with 15 seconds to spare in the FATE and still get full credit if i use a few skills and someone in my PT was there. It also allows one to piggyback teleports and move around the map quicker.
