I finished Grand Company hunting log rank 2 and can't get promoted because the commander has some trial for me but he doesnt have a quest or anything. any ideas?

Is this the point where I have to finish the story before I can progress anymore?

You'll have to beat the main story to unlock the next trial.

What drops are in Toto-Rak? That looks like it's for a circus act, lol. I'm about to do some runs later for the first time.

Monk gear design is all over the place. He's me rockin the Ampador set....

The transition from the bright yellow AF into that stuff doesn't help either.

So...am I insane or is Sunken Temple basically impossible to complete with a duty-finder PUG?

I've attempted it four times tonight -- with a ~30 minute DF wait, each time -- and didn't even get past the Teratotaur. Yes, the first...damn...boss.

It's always the same thing:

- I politely ask if it's anyone's first time. There's always at least one, usually two guys, so I explain what I've learned from previously failed attempts.

- We get to Teratotaur and at least one person dies on the first Doom. No big deal; I died there on my first run too. We laugh it off and rez.

- Back at Teratotaur, we're avoiding Doom like pros but someone doesn't switch to the bees and gets tagged with Final Sting and we wipe. Again, I try to keep the mood light and laid-back as we rez.

- The "pro" party member that has been silent the entire run dumps a "L2P" rant and bails. The other two trickle out soon after.

- Defeated, I cry in my pie and re-queue.

Four bloody times this happened tonight.

I've been trying to go through XIV completely guide-free as the alternative sucks all the fun out of it for me. (When did researching every pull and boss mechanic prior to your first run become a requirement? Where in the sweet, ever-loving f*ck is the fun in that?)

If there are any patient, laid-back GAF'ers looking to trial-and-error their way through Sunken Temple of Qarn, I play a Bard named Wren Kalenheim on Ultros; shoot me a PM, reply here, or just message me in-game later today and we'll set something up :)

I did it with a PUG party with two new members just fine. It was on my the second run though, my first run with another PUG we wiped on the last boss.

Okay, quick update.

So tonight was my first full night playing as a Warrior, rather than a Marauder. Oddly, the transition is proving a bit difficult, at least when I'm playing with a group anyway. To be fair, part of that is the simple fact that I was getting the hang of assigning "Signs," to mobs, and that took a bit of getting used to. I kept trying to lay out a detailed order of how we were going to take down enemies, and it took me awhile to realize that with the group I was in at least, it wasn't going to work. I'd lay out signs based on the starting position of the monsters, and of course that'd change the moment the battle started, and it completely threw the party off a few times. So instead I simply used signs to designate the first enemy I'd go after.

As for the Warrior Job itself, well, it's taking me awhile to figure out how all the new buffs should be used. which of course is leaving me occasionally distracted from the more basic functions of tanking, such as keeping proper aggro on enemies. It hasn't resulted in any real major mistakes, but I was definitely doing a better job of tanking before, when I have relatively few abilities and I could just focus on the basics.

I'm actually kinda inclined to just ignore a lot of those extra Warrior abilities for awhile, at least until I get a more instinctual grasp of how to use them, and when. Also, tomorrow, I think I'm going to try setting up Macro's for the more basic MRD Tanking Combo's, to free up some of my attention for handling other things.

Anyhow, beat Haukke Manor tonight, beat the heck out of Cancer in a GAF party, and beat the level 35 Warrior Class quest. Also, tomorrow I may try setting up some Macro's. Right now I'm on the early parts of the Quest to fight Titan. I've gotta say, I'm really looking forward to that fight. :)

Ya sometimes if the party is stupid just stick to one sign. And swap it over to the next enemy before the current one goes down.

As for Warrior uhh there isn't much to really watch. I mean you don't even get a warrior ability until 35... and then you shouldn't use it much unless it's an "Oh crap moment", since the buff is better than the heal you'll get from removing the buff.

I've never actually beaten the Sunken Temple of Qarn. Level 45 and just skipped it after too many failed PUGs.

They really ramped up the difficulty with that one. It's a real test of who knows how to play properly.

So around what level do I start getting the good looking armor as a CNJ/WHM? I'm at 25 now.

The Battlemage gear grom Brayflox looks the best until end game imo:

I don't get why people think it's so difficult..
First boss' doom counter is clearly visible in the buff windows and it's really not that hard to get to the platforms in time.
The mini bosses after that are cake and the end boss is also really easy. The only thing that can screw you over is too low dps and the only challenging thing is that people need to move and be aware of positions especially on the last boss.

Sunken Temple Woe's

I am only playing with pugs since I have no one I know on my server and I've beaten it 2 out of the 3 times I was there :) So it's possible.
I wish I was in the FC though. It would make it easier.

Also <3 Bards with all my little healer heart.

Story Quest Spoiler:
Norexia's Death was to heartbreaking :(

What is with all the arrogant elitists congregating in FF14?

Was just pugging Qarn and was tanking perfectly fine. Pretty much never lost aggro (ok maybe once, but i pulled back aggro almost straight away). Anyway, so I was mixing in a few Flashes along with my usual Overpower rotation. I mostly do this to save on my TP usage, so I don't run out too quickly.

The healer noticed this, and started going "Hey why the fuck are you using Flash? Flash sucks. Overpower is better. Use overpower instead." I told him to get off my case, especially considering that my current technique was holding aggro perfectly fine. He then said "Roll a paladin noob".

...

You know, you would think that the box fee and sub fees would be sufficient enough barriers to keep out most of the douchebags, but evidently not.

Can't wait for Garuda, Sunken Temple and Brayflox. What are the required levels for each? I'm nearing level 28.

Bray is 32 Main Story
Sunken Temple is 35 Optional
Garuda is 44 Main Story

You have to go do Titan after Bray, so you are a long ass away at the moment

Godspeed on Titan and Landslide lol, so many people die to that it's not even funny
Garuda, Just hope you get the right people to help ya', if randoms, Jesus

Brayflox is 32 iirc, Sunken Temple 35 (optional dungeon) and Garuda 44 I think,

General problem of kids not having any kind of respect for others over the i-net..pisses me off to no end :(

Darn! I probably won't get to level 40-ish until next week with my current pace. I probably level up my LNC once or twice per day -__-

Need to get better armor than my Iron Scale set.

Also, can someone answer this?

What settings do I change so that when I lock on to an enemy, the camera doesn't snap right up to them? Some times on big enemies I'm locked on to, I can't move the camera up or down (or zoom out).

Also there is a quest after Bray dungeon which will make you run around every-fucking-where, the worst fetch quest imaginable

Smart thing I've learned with Main Mission storyline and side-quests, always be at least 2-3 levels ahead of the story
Do FATEs and over-level yourself, cause even with Main Mission and side quests, sometime you will run into a brick wall that the quest can be given to ya, but not rewarded until the next level

From my perspective, spending money on gear is pointless
GC gear is comparable and free, just FATE Farm and earn seals, buy stuff
Most of the quest gear you get will be replaced in 2-3 levels, then you can't sell it cause you got it through quest, can convert into materia, but most of the time you get shit materia at the lower levels

Only grab quest gear if it is really necessary, don't buy or grab gear for 45+ cause your AF takes up slots and soon you'll be in dungeon tome grinding which will get you rest of the stuff you need

If you are upgrading gear every 2-3 levels and wasting it through side-quests items, for me I think your giving up gil

My PLD went through a lot of GC gear and was worth it, didn't need to dungeon farm, just FATE Farm my levels over by a few and did Main Story for the rest, it still caught up to me, but luckily I over-leveled twice again to keep me safe

Thanks for the tips about equipment! I think I'll just FATE farm for seals and get my equipment from my GC, then. This way I'll kill two birds with one stone: leveling up and getting enough seals for new equipment. How about farming a dungeon for its loot - would you recommend that or is GC stuff still comparable?

It's probably the quest for Amdapor Keep which you unlock after finishing the story.

Yeah, I have that warrior ability now actually. There are a couple other buffs and such as well that I've recently gained access to. I just don't have the instincts down yet on when its best to use them, so when I start thinking about it in battle I get tripped up.

That sort of thing just comes with practice though. The Warrior Macro's I just finished making should help too. I won't have to put some attention into maintaining the basic combo's anymore, so I can pour that bit of mental energy into my situational awareness.

Man, I started taking some timelapse videos, and woah.

Actually, looking at this just helped me make up my mind. Sometime next year, I'm either converting my computer to run on a Crossfire setup, or buying a new videocard, capable of maxing out this game with 60fps. This is despite the fact that I just recently bought a new card last month.

As much time as I'm going to be spending in this world over the coming months and years, I want it to look as pretty as some of these screenshots I'm seeing.

What's the difference between a Free Company and a Linkshell? Is the linkshell the same as from FF11? If so then whats a free company?

I'm honestly glad I changed my class from Arcanist to Archer. It was honestly boring and I read Arcanist/Summoners are not ideal damage dealers late game. I can't wait to be a bard :D

Finished Sastasha earlier. It was alright but yeah, partying through the Duty Finder isn't super fun. My party members didn't talk at all and it took me about 75 minutes to finally get a party :(

Hopefully I'll find some gaffers to team up with when I get in the FC! I asked Paprikka (Safflower Amariyo) earlier, who was kind enough to put me in the overflow Linkshell until there's room for me.

My lag spike problem completely disappeared by the way. Played all day, it never happened once! Is it fixed for anyone else or am I somehow really lucky?

If you want to do Tam-Tara tonight with me then just let me know!
Name is Lisie Valtaire, feel free to add me :) It'll be my first time in there

Right now nobody knows just how much damage they do because they use DoTs and there's no log for these.

someone teach me how to hold hate as a level 50 pally so i can teach this pally hwo to hold hate on tonberry king for more than 2 seconds

Ultros has been full for over 10 hours :|

that can't be possible because i just got back from dinner an hour ago and logged in with no queue

You can make a ton of money gathering. But you can also make a lot selling mid level gear right now. I made 80k selling stuff overnight. Not sure if that's alot but it took like 10 minutes to craft it

Pretty much been grinding out leatherworking and carpentry with botanist to do this very thing I'm still only able to make up to lvl17 gear but think once I hit mid 20 gear I can make some gil.
