Playing this on PC with a controller is pretty damn awesome. It gets complicated with the button presses once you start using multiple hotbars but its fun and doesn't feel rote and mundane.

I'm surprised at how well SE managed to make an interface that has everything you need and is still navigatable by controller.

Is there any particular method to levelling your chocobo?

I got to Rank 2 with mine pretty quickly and then progress slowed to less than a crawl.

Is the only method just to have it out at all times?

Think of Chocobo leveling as 'I'll raise this while I level 234892 classes to 50' not 'I'm gonna cap my Chocobo this weekend', unless you want to hate life

It's mostly just a nice bonus when you're farming mats/exp chaining.

Since maintenance is happening today, I thought this might be a good time to post this. I generally try to keep these posts restricted to our website but I know there are still many that haven't registered or started checking it regularly yet.

Membership Update
For those of you on the waiting list in the Ultros GAF Linkshell and those reading here in the thread that still want to join, we will be clearing a considerable amount of room in the Free Company this Friday. Invites will start going out Friday evening. Members in the Linkshell, members with verified NeoGAF accounts, and members that have registered on our website will be given priority over other users.

We will continue to review and maintain our roster closely and on a weekly basis, through the end of November. Everyone's free trials will have expired by then and we will have a good idea of what the active community is going to look like. At that time, we will probably be able to relax our policies on membership culling.

Free Company Events
It may be impossible to coordinate over 500 people's different schedules but I would still like to gauge some interest in event planning. How is everyone progressing? Will there be many new 50s this weekend? Is there any interest in setting up events to clear the remaining story dungeons (3 8-man dungeons - Westwind, Castrum Meridianum, Praetorium), Amdapor Keep (standard and speed run walk through for first timers), Wanderer's Palace (first timers), and Ifrit HM (first timers and those that have not yet obtained their weapon)?

If you haven't already, please register at neogaf.guildwork.com. If you are not a member of the Free Company yet, you will need to submit an application under the 'Recruitment' section. If you are already a member of the Free Company but haven't registered on the site, simply register an account and then link your Lodestone character to your profile. Site access will be granted based on your Free Company affiliation.

All events will be planned and scheduled through our website. You can sign up for attendance via the calendar. In the future, depending on how the drops work, for Bahamut's Coil and Crystal Tower (2.1), we may begin using the Raid Tracker to track attendance, progress, and rewards. It is important that our members start using the site instead of relying on this thread, especially since we have members that are not able to participate in the thread.

Will you be posting a list of people getting invites somewhere?

Hit level 24, story is progressing well and got myself into a free company where we spent the last hour fate farming at Costa. Loving it.

Easily my favourite MMO since playing WoW years ago.

The method is to have it out when you are going to be killing a lot of mobs, since that's the only way they get XP. They tend to die a lot in fates, which means you go through a lot of greens, but they are great for helping you farm leather.

Given that the chocobo's best use is killing level 50 monsters for crafting mats, I'm glad I also went the DPS route.

I'm going for the DPS route as well, since my aim as a DPS is to kill things quick.

Tried to play with a 360 gamepad and just couldn't do it. The menus with a controller isn't intuitive and overall isn't as fast as I'd like it to be.

I've herd Healing isn't that effective, and having it Tank is similar [to doesn't hold Emnity nearly as much as is required, especially considering the "burst" damage of a Black Mage].

I'm going purely with DPS. It means I can kill the enemy faster, which results in less of a chance for damage upon myself, and will be applicable to other classes as well as DPS. It's seems to be the more versatile role, in my opinion.

Whenever I do Fate's similar to that one there's always that one guy/girl that turns in his/her crates while there's still 13:00 on the clock. Then, of course, the objective is met, and I have no choice but to go and turn mine in. :(

My chocobo is 2 ranks into tank and I really don't like it. He can't pull off my WHM and THM so I do wish I went DPS with him. I hope they let you reset him in the future.

Not able to ride chocobo while summoned is insane. Why summon at all?

You also can't queue for DF or get invited to parties zzz.

Actually, weren't battle regimens OP against those high level NMs people fought at launch? Just spam them.

EDIT: What I don't understand is how limit breaks are like WS (or SCs for that matter). They are this game's 2-hours, not much else.

Nope.

VERY, Very early on...
You'd use Emulate and fight level 99 elemental mobs and murder them.

Emulate caused you to get an elemental shift (you used to have elemental defense) and you would gain the elemental defense of the enemy. So if you fought a level 70 bomb and cast Emulate, it couldn't hurt you since ALL of its attacks were fire elemental and you had enough fire def to negate the damage to single digit damage.

THMs used to be tanks since you couldn't actually hold hate in very very, VERY early 1.0 before they changed a number of things.

It was very silly during the initial launch. Parties of like 18 people wailing on crabs.

The crafting system isn't purely random anymore, but still has a large element of RNG at play (material condition being the biggest factor). Crafting takes longer in ARR than in FFXI due to some step crafting plus the manual crafting taking longer than a synth in FFXI with the exception being quick synthesis option to pound out multiple items of the same type in sucession (less exp earned per success though).

Crafting in XIV is only slower in the individual process. On a level level, it's faster than XI which had randomized skill gains to advanced in level. It sometimes took for ever to get going in that and costed a lot of cash. -_-

Tried tanking the Chimera for Relic Reborn... why are people so silly?

This is like the third time we fight the Chimera, but they still get hit by obvious aoe. All you have to do is stand in the blind spot and let the Paladin stun.

I find the pad best when you're doing monotonous things like gathering and crafting. Gives my hands a nice break from the usually m/kb set up.

The ice ice/fire aoe usually sends people running around with a chicken with its head cut off. Then you get someone with a purple orb who stands in the group. :(

Bah, I have 0 urge to do my Relic quest. I need to find someone to craft the precursor weapon right? Can I buy the materia off the market too?

I can't find a way to hide the log window, is there one?

Yeah that just happened to my group lol, someone got the orb and it took most of them down. Then you have some people who get caught by Dragon's Voice :/

Fuck the endgame elitists.

"IF WE WIPE ONCE, IM DONE"

I'm a bit more chilled out, four/five wipes and I'm out.

Yeah, I'm definitely happy I went with DPS.

Kweh can certainly hold his own in battle!

I'm sure they'll give a respect option in the future. The game is still early-on, so having people permanently locked into a specific role for their Chocobo, when not a lot is known, just wouldn't seem right. I know they said that the talents/skills are permanent, but that's likely only temporary.

I was surprised to see it drop my queue for Duty Finder when I summoned my Chocobo. Not being able to ride when summoned is another complaint. I only really summon Kweh when there are multiple enemies in the area that I need for quest or farming reasons. It just doesn't seem worth it otherwise. :(

i think i've killed hard ifrit 6 times now. had 3 healer sticks.

going in with randoms can be quite fun. you can get a good look where people fail from tanking position, and it can look quite funny when they drop. other times they don't give a shit about stunning and just play. which reminds me of that one gnome paladin that was actively trolling the party by rushing in and cheering when he hit a stun 1 of 5 times or so.

Nope, it was a dps for me.

At least with DPS you can replace them really quickly.

The worst case of this is with the HM Ifrit fight. I've had so many runs where people straight up leave just from not having a BLM/SMN in the group. You can't even replace people in that fight. Such a waste of time.

sometimes you can do it with dragoons lbing the nails

I think you should just wait it out because it seems you really want the PS4 version. Updates 2.1 to 2.3 will have been added, and most likely the expansion releasing shortly since they've submitted the draft for it already.

Oh really ? I haven't heard about it. I wonder if it'll come with the PS4 version. I guess I'll wait.

Is there a log of all the updates and what changes they brought ?

One piece of culinarian gear, and a million materia, and my set will be complete. I can already taste the two star item level 70 food.

Anyone want to show me how to run Wanderer's Palace and/or Amdapor Keep tomorrow? I've been a level 50 dragoon for awhile now but haven't really attempted them. Been focusing on getting my Ifrit weapon (which I got) and getting carpenter to 50 (I'm almost 42 now).

Okay I hate to ask this, but... is this your first MMO?

Not at all. Understand that my query was not a complaint about te downtime occurring tonight. That is for a very good reason, to fix imports t issue. I was specifically asking about regular service downtime for "maintenace" issues, which simply doesn't occur. If a game goes down its to fix a specific issue or make an improvement.

http://www.wowwiki.com/Tuesday_morning_downtime

Edit: I don't think it's "necessary" as a long-term regular thing, and I've called out other games for doing it... "maintenance" is definitely the correct word for fixing and improving infrastructure.
No. It's not. Maintenace is meant to convey preservation of state. What is happening tonight is an improvement. Replacing crumbling bricks on a building is maintenance. Adding a new floor is not. Maintenace in this case would be something like cleaning up logs or replacing parts due to wear.

But as I've devolved into sheer pedantry and semantics I'll back down. XD

* If you are already logged in, you will remain logged in throughout the maintenance.
Is that referring to the loadstone only?

I was able to click on a new items in the launcher, close out, see a second green play button, log in and see my hot bars and everything, then I got kicked immediately 5 minutes ago xD

Double post, sorry.

EDIT: Erm, I thought I made a double post... >.> Hmm.

---------

That person... wow. I would hate to do any type of dungeon/raid with them.
