WHM RELIC GOT!

Already picked up the SCH relic quest, but I'm in no rush now, lol.

I like that getting a relic is more skill based now than some stupid/boring grind ala FFXI, but I do feel like the quest should have been a bit longer.

So today was going great as I was able to finish my HQ AF BSM set, thanks to Solace:

But then couldn't return the favor and get a HQ Culinary Knife for Docbon, sorry man T_T

Who is that in the picture? This Gaffer (level 50 Blacksmith?) helped me start my Relic Quest, I love him/her.

Anyone else buy the security token? Bought it like 5 days ago and have yet to get anything other then the initial confirmation. My card has been charged.

Is maintenance going to be every Wednesday? Really sucks for me if so. Only day I get out of work early. :(

EDIT:

Is that party finder they are working on going to work like a same server only group finder? Because that would be great.

Pick your poison. Whatever time they choose, they're going to piss off someone. Enjoy your night. =)
do them separately
at least that will be one benefit to come out of segregating the population into two sections
since it obviously didn't cut down on lags!

Fuck the endgame elitists.

"IF WE WIPE ONCE, IM DONE"

Ugh. This is my biggest problem with the duty finder. With no global rep or repercussions for acting like an insane sociopath, it practically rewards acting like an insane sociopath. It makes me dread queuing up as a healer on harder stuff because I know if things go sour I'm going to be the first one to get verbally abused (with impunity) just because someone died. It's a real buzzkill. I understand the benefits of the DF and all but they need to do more to encourage community building on servers. I feel like just the presence of the duty finder makes a lot of people dismissive of the benefits of building relationships and not treating people like digital cumrags.

I understand the tanks pain. With people like this around, being a tank is significantly more mentally trying than other games, having to worry that if you mess up your job once, the entire team is going to jump on your throat.

If people like him continue putting people down for not being instantly perfect at their jobs, there aren't going to be many tanks left. I did the dungeon in that image a couple of days ago as well and it's really not hard enough to elicit that kind of reaction.

Furthermore, I don't understand why. The punishment for failure in this game is negligible repair costs and a restart of the attempt. I can understand if this was after a 3+ wipes, but I seriously doubt it was from my experience.

Wow in under two hours I got miner to lvl 10. Need to get that and botanist up to reasonable lvls so I can get most of my ingredients for crafting....feel like I should still get lnc to 30 and finally get drg 2 weeks in lol.

Ahhh maintenance is bitter sweet. It really sucks that I can't play, but at least I can hit up happy hour and get a few more hours of sleep!

I feel that if I wasn't so preassured I wouldn't have many of the mistakes I sometimes do. Some people don't even understand, in Ifrit Hard for example, that Stun has diminishing returns so they expect you to stun every damn Eruption, so they just don't even move expecting you to stun every one of them even if sometimes is just impossible.

As long as no one else is stunning you should be able to hit every one, with one resist every now and then.

True, but resist can happen, and if it does hell breaks lose in some people minds. The thing is, ppl should keep evading Eruptions because you never know, especially in Phase 1 and because damn, people can make mistakes. Resist barely happens in Phase 2, that's true.

Well least i got my initial 1 1/2 hours of this game in before maintenance. Pretty fun so far but man does the tutorial leave you confused lol.

Got a few noob questions here if you guys don't mind.

So am I right in thinking that there is no trash loot in this game? It seemed like I autolooted quest items from mobs but got no other real drops. So does that mean you buy your weapons/armor from NPCs or through quests? Also is there any way to customize your armor with dyes and such like in GW2?

Yeah. I find that I end up with one resisted stun at around 60%-ish on hard Ifrit if he starts spamming it a bit. Luckily this is before he goes into overdrive so it rarely causes much of an issue. If he paces them out you can usually get them all and once he does go wild it's best to not jeopardize the run by doing too much outside of stunning since any DPS you can add is minute.

Regular Weapons/armor come from npcs, the market (auction house) or quests.

You can dye certain pieces of armor. Sets and what not usually aren't allowed to be dyed (SUCKS).

Regular monsters do drop items but I believe every item dropped is a crafting material.

I could be wrong on that but I can't remember that last item I got from a monster that wasn't a crafting material.

But yes, 99% of your equipment will come through dungeons or quests. You can also purchase stuff from the market boards and NPCs but more often than not you don't need to as most of your gear is provided for you from quests.

You can dye items but you have to complete a quest first. It's a level 15 quest in Vesper Bay in Western Thanalan. You need to give the NPC one orange juice which can be purchased from any culinarian NPC. After that you can use dyes to change the color of your gear.

Yennaiv, maybe it was me! >.>

Nice! How much did the set run you? I'm probably going to hit 50 BSM by next week.

Probably around +200k, by next week everything might be a lot cheaper so I wouldn't be surprised if you can get the set at 1/4 of that cost. Also got a lot of help from fellow GAF members in getting some pieces made or mats needed for some of the pieces.

Grats dude! We got our relics almost at the same time :p

Where's your +1? I won't have mine until next reset.

There are some mobs that drop materials for crafting, but afaik, all gear is bought, crafted, drops from chests in dungeons and levequests, or received from quests.

I believe there are dyes, since I got a quest about them, but I have no idea how they actually work.

Tanks are the black sheep of this game. People are so used to them being extremely powerful in WoW that most don't realize how limited they are in this game, especially at lower gear levels. There are also a ton of mechanics in the game that make the tanks look bad (i.e. adds that buff boss damage if not killed fast enough, other people stunning when they're not supposed to that cause DR/resist) and guess who gets the blame? And of course, no one believes you when you try to explain it to them, and rightfully so; bad tanks are the boy who cried wolf in all MMOs.

Problem is, there actually are shitload of wolves in FFXIV.

Ah ok thanks guys, good to hear you can customize your armor a bit at least. Guess it works out that I started as a Pugilist and am near Western Thanalan

That screenshot just makes me mad. People like this just ruin the game. Toxic.

Me and my team will be making sure not to give Lord Garuda the time of day.

Is the Relic quest tough?

Yeah, what will end up happening is everyone will join an FC that fits their personality and run with people they're comfortable with just so they can avoid all the jerks.

Eventually the Duty Finder is going to be nothing but a festering pool of assholes yelling and screaming at each other.

Sorry if its been answered but what the heck.

Gear: you eill always reuse your beginner gear when yoy decide to lvl another class or gathering group or crafting. Different sets and all. Npc's do sell good gear to help you branch out further early on but I crafted a lot of my early stuff.

Dyes: lvl twenty quest by the time you are in that lvl range the story will take you to that place so you won't miss it. You'll notice it with the reward being a few dyes and the dye action.

Enjoy this game is awesome.

Is the Relic quest tough?

The hardest part will probably be beating all 3 Primals, Ifrit is easy but I heard Titan is quite a bastard. Otherwise is mostly time consuming: getting (good) parties for 2 non-instanced fights, farming tombstones and running a couple of dungeons.

I'm on Hydra fight and I'll know it will take hours to find a proper party and do the fight. Also DL gear seems necessary at least for Titan so that's a few more hours of farming.

A little bit, but Titan is a mother fu*ker.

You can pretty much get a relic done in 4-5 hours assuming you already got all the fights down and run them without mistakes.

That's also assuming you get the green version of the relic weapon already and have someone to meld for you right. That's the part that makes me not want to start my relic quest.

Get the mats and ask around to get it done and melded. That's how I got mine, it was a kindred spirit and you may be not as lucky but is worth giving it a shot.

Yeah, Ifrit is really easy in comparison to Garuda and Titan. Garuda isn't that bad, but need a group that knows what they are doing. Mistakes can be made, and you can still probably beat her.

Titan, though. Oh boy. You really cannot make any mistakes. It's an incredibly unforgiving fight.

Chimera and Hydra can pose some problems for people new to the fight, but they aren't too difficult compared to the rest. I actually had more problems with Hydra than Chimera even though everyone else says Chimera is harder, lol. Maybe my groups were just backwards. :P

Oh awesome, congrats to you, too! :D

How many tomes do you need for the +1? And do you just get another quest from the same guy to upgrade or what?

Yes. Yes, he is. Fun fight, but... damn. lol
900 Tomes of Myth.

Also congrats! Pretty jealous, I've been wiping on Titan for the past 5 days but don't have my relic quest started either way.

You need 900 Mythologies, which I would have been able to upgrade today, but I bough the Hero ring of casting for 375 tomes so I'm on like 700 at the moment, hoping for a reset after the maintenance.

Same guy gave me another Relic Reborn quest, which I started for SMN, so I'm not sure who does the upgrade, maybe Rowena, I actually didn't ask my mates, I was too busy looking at my purple weapon.

SCREAMING!!!!!

Just came back from work and little did I know trying to log in that there was maintenance. I've never felt so EMPTY ;__;

Damn, 900? I saw an item in the "Other" category on the Myth tomes section, but it was only 300. I think I may hold off on the +1 version unless it is a ton better. I'd rather get like AF2 body personally, lol.

Yeah, I spent the past few days wiping on Titan with different groups. Well, some of them were the same people, but we had to fill in the rest with randoms. Some people just give up way too quickly. Then again, I was used to wiping on Heroic WoW encounters for hours, so it was nothing new. :P

Boo. Well, it's gonna be a while for my relic. I bought my AF2 boots like 2 days ago because I wasn't even thinking about the +1. I just wanted the regular one. I only have like 5 myth tomes, lol. Still might work on getting AF2 gear first as I think that would be bigger upgrades. I need to see the stats for the +1 relic, though.

I didn't buy the token because there's a free Android app that serves the same purpose as far as I'm aware.
