Try during the day tomorrow. Generally speaking, character creation for NA servers is closed during the night but open during the day.

You'll probably be promoting on your first class, then getting the gear for subsequent classes.

Although, a week ago people said receiving 5k tip was kind of normal, the tipping has apparently gone down to 1-2.5k ish?

There's the supply and provision missions. I've been using them to exp my miner and botanist but they give a healthy amount of seals once you're in the higher level stuff. Just turning in 10 HQ of a level 38 (I think?) mining item net me like 2500 seals. If you work your way up, you accumulate seals over time I suppose. I inadvertently got a lot from this, and am basically funding my min/bot company manuals by mining/botanying.

This does terrible things to my inventory space though. I have so many raw rocks it's nuts trying to figure out what is what without highlighting.

You could also turn in your pink/green dungeon gear to the GC, I think if you have 100% spiritbond it nets you more seals? But the amount of seals you get from that aspect is not particularly plenty.
 
Longtime lurker (for years)... first post :)

Didn't see any free company/linkshell on OP for Siren, and wondering if there was one for Siren? Also any gaffers on Siren? Would love to play with gaffers.

The GC gear isn't made for your first class. It's bonus if you grind out for it

It's their to help subsequent classes to get geared up

Can't make money, just go do FATE's and grab a few pieces to make you progress forward on your 2nd, 3rd, 4th class

Hell I abused the ever living shit out of it for my PLD + Miner, it helps.
Once my BLM hit 50, I had FATE grinded so much, that my PLD and Miner fed off the items the GC offered
Didn't have to spend gil for gear so much cause dungeon gear + side quest gear can alleviate the pocketbook + GC gear has the added bonus of equipping 2+ pieces which gives an additional effect (most times determination or crit +)

You are suppose to use your seals to Rank up as much as possible till a certain cockblock will come (a dungeon + hunting log completion) to get the chance for the last promotion

Some of the gear can be used for 8+ levels, cause they match or surpass most gears made/sold, only dungeon gear surpasses them, but most don't grind dungeons over and over (unless they really want a certain set for vanity reasons)

DPS can really use the GC gear to their advantage

Also most in the game even on their 2nd or 3rd class don't have the FFXI mentality of having HQ gear in every slot @ every level or two
Most upgrade 5-7 levels to next gear that gets them by
It will be a while where you'll see level 20 players running full HQ gear + Materia'd the fuck out

Right now it's get to 50 with first class, get it all the goodies possible
That being:
AF > Primal Weapons > Dungeon + Darklight > or = level 70 crafted gear + slotted > (*Crystal Tower goes here*) > AF+1 > or = Allagan

So GC may look useless now to your first job, once you take the second or third you see how much of it is a benefit having GC gear available

The whole dungeon they looked like they were no where near the group, it was so fucking weird
They said it was a glitch (sometimes it happens)... but the mobs were just hitting empty space and the Healers health never went down, like the AOE would target the WHM, but nothing would transpire, no avatar seen, hell targeted

Don't tell me people found a way to wall hack or just appear blank to the game, yet still be there

I am not naming any names but I found it funny and ironic that people were looking for geared people for CM/PR Speed runs and I did 2 runs as a under geared scrub in DF in the same amount of time it took them to form 1 elite group. Whatever floats people's boat I guess.

Lets get the facts straight here, any group that I'm a part of is a carry group. I just show up to throw combat rez's and look pretty!

You are crazy. I wish I had time to level more stuff. I can't even find time to level crafting stuff. :(
 
I unlocked Scholar and Summoner, so I went ahead and tried Scholar out in Satasha and, if I disliked the pet management as Arcanist, as Scholar it's even more annoying for me.
I can't get Eos to not cast the aoe regen when she feels like it if I want to manually tell her who and when to heal.
I could manually (or maybe macro in the heal) switch back to Steady but.... it's simply maddening that the moment I hit her heal button she goes back in guard mode and will cast whatever she wants.
At least when I have pikachu out as Arcanist and use obey, he'll just cast the normal attack, not the specials (I hit obey wih Eos out, but she still casted the aoe regen?).

So, anyways, pointers to work around this? For easy stuff I don't care if she does what she wants, but I'd like to have control over her for more demanding stuff.
 
Glad that so many people got in on Titan kills today. I tried to help for an hour + some change but had to jet to do some Coil runs with a group of friends. I wish I could have stayed to help out the group I was helping as we were so close.

Also, Turn 4 Coil eats my soul.

Yes, but almost all of my playtime is spent running stupid AK in order to hit the myth cap every week. It's either that or helping other people in the FC with stuff.

that's on the 1st boss right?
yeah some people run that way, the whm stands on the tree branch on the right, uses regen to get hate, everybody else just fights the squid
 
Finally hit my first level 50 with Gladiator/Paladin. I haven't finished the story yet cause I'm waiting on some friends to come over when server transfers open up, but I figured I may as well get ahead of the game and start (collecting) up the Relic stuff.

For Paladin, I need to get an Aeolian Scimitar with two Battledance III materia right? I also read somewhere that I should stick with that until I get an Ifrit drop before turning it in for the relic itself.
 
Thanks again to Aeana and others for helping me with The Praetorium! It's nice to finally be completed the main story so I can focus on getting Darklight gear, my Relic, among other things.

Those credits were definitely long. Definitely the longest I've probably experienced for any game.
 
Beat Preatorium just a little while ago. It went smoothly cause we made a group in server no Duty Finder and everyone was mostly new to it and the one's who knew it was there to help out. It was a long dungeon but we worked well together and only wiped once.

To some of the gaffers I saw just now fighting Behemoth together on Ultros.. Good job! :) that was awesome. I only made it in time to get one horn.

Look what I got today!

Thanks to Elza in one of the Gaf linkshells. :) She tanked in what was a really bad PUG because of a rogue SMN who thought she could tank everything. But whatever. We did it! I got the hat, robes, and boots today. Only had to run through Brayflox twice so far!
 
I would win that award too but I wanted to be blue. Also, I changed my mind at the last minute and went to Paladin.

But yeah I love how I just dwarf everyone in cutscenes and they all have to crane their necks up to look at me.

Level 31 tank armor I got from seals looks awesome on her too, can't post any screenshots since I'm not at home.

I'm a little more "noob" in this department... I mean someone just hands me their item and Materia and I Meld it and just hand it back? I assume I'll be using my own Grade X Carbonized Material for the Meld. A player can moogle-mail me their items and I can mail it back when done right? Sometimes when crafting I see a player constantly fail a meld, I'm a lv 50 Leatherworker can I still fail a Meld?

Thanks. I'm guessing you mean the weaver gear. They are pretty classy looking, probably my favorite of the ilvl 55 crafter sets I've seen so far. Though I could live without the leprechaun buckles on the shoes. :(
 
Last night group for Titan was great, such a shame that we got him down to 10% like 3 time and then wiped :(


Can't wait for next week now, got both tomes ready for my relic +1
 
Finally made it to 50 on my Monk and completed the story last night. Looking forward to being able to group with the Ultros FC for some event nights!

Managed to complete an Haukke Manor run without a tank (the tank got disconnected before the second boss). The 3 of us in the party managed it perfectly and on the last boss it went so well I managed to both level (I can get back to Brayflox now) and get the Scholar/Summoner book.
Felt really good.
