Horrible duty finder CM groups last night. People leeching, new players who didnt care about strategy, lots of whiny complainers who say they just want to help but actually do more harm than good.
And to think that Im still 20+ runs away from getting all the gear that I want.
I probably need to take a break from CM before I get TOO frustrated.

I need AK too but I leery of that one because I hear its difficult and I dont want to be the new guy bogging it down. Should probably watch some video first to get an idea of things.

AK really isn't that difficult once you know where to stand.

Run it with FC the first time :)

That's as good as it gets, I'm afraid. Limited durability makes these tough to synth HQ reliably with NQ mats. With HQ mats (edit: and the right cross-class skills) you should never not HQ them, though, unless you are incredibly unlucky. My bread and butter money making synths for the past few weeks have been HQing these (and other 1star materials) with NQ mats for big ROI. I HQ about 80% of the hippogryph leather/darksteel nuggets/rose gold nuggets/etc. that I make from NQ mats which gives me a good profit margin even after undercutting people so that mine sell pretty quickly so I can list more. I sell the HQs and keep the NQs to use to HQ other things.

Got my mining to 50 the other day. Wish I had the crafts to take advantage of it though ._.

Couldn't get the token app to work. Asking for some birthday I don't remember entering in anywhere.

I just changed my password to 19 characters, number an letters. Lets see them break that. lol

Any chances of an opening in the Ultros FC yet? I've been waiting since launch, lol.

Yes, there is room. When you are in game, you will need to send a tell to one of the officers listed in the OP and on our website at neogaf.guildwork.com. We can't send invites to people that are not online. Please submit an application on the site, if you haven't already.

OMG this game is awesome!

I have a doubt: I started a game as an archer (to start in Gridania) but I want to be a Black Mage. I will go do Ul'dah when I reach lvl 15, but now I already have 3 points to distribute.

I'm afraid to put these points on DEX (because now I'm an archer) and then become a weaker Thaumaturge. But I've heard that each class have different skill points, is that correct?

So I can make a good archer and a good thaumaturge and a good archanist, is that right?

Thank you very much and sorry for being so noob.

Yes.

really wish there was longer dungeon timers. first time doing dungeons can be down to the last minute with everyone dying and d/cing all the time. Time completion bonus should be a thing, failing dungeons because of time is kinda lame and i don't feel like they add much challenge :/

yep.

And to be fair, the stat points make near no real difference in damage output or what not so you can't reaaaally mess up.

30 points does make a difference.

I will dare to say that this MMO is quite in my top 3 next to WoW and LotrO. Nothing can match a launch WoW experience tho.

you should expand your horizon lol. Your top 3 all seem like reaaaally similar ;P

Was weird being in a party with no bind (monk + 2 scholars). Do scholars really have no sleep or w/e?

Awesome, as soon as this finishes downloading I'll try and sign up, thanks!

Hi there, I'm from Singapore and playing on Ultros server. The ping does affect somewhat, but it isn't that bad. You just got to watch out for the AOE attacks from mobs and be sure to avoid it quickly.

Hope you enjoy your game!

To be fair, this is completely wrong. Take off 30STR worth of gear and tell me there's no real difference in your damage output. Those 30 points can make a big difference on content you haven't mastered the mechanics of and even on content you could do with one arm tied behind your back it's going to help you win more efficiently.

Those racial stat differences, not a big deal. Your 30 points of bonus points, though, those make a difference.

Well this is still the Formula that works the best. I enjoy heavy PvE games the most tho.

the classic formula is still the best for dungeoning imo, but for soloing, it just isn't fun anymore.

And even after playing for a month, i still think FF14's GCD is about a second too long.

Nope. BLM and WHM are the sleepers. SCH gets Blind + Slow + Disease regarding status effects as baseline ACN stuff (and Virus + Eye for an Eye if you count those). SMN gets a bind spell but i really don't like it much.

Having Wow, Lotro and FF14 be your three favorite MMOs is no worse than having Resident Evil 4, Uncharted 2 and the Last of Us be your favorite single player games. :P

But it is sacrilege to have a list of best MMOs and not have EverQuest at the very top :>

I'd never put EQ at the very top of my list, despite spending 5 or 6 years on it starting from launch and playing it a lot. The only oldie that could hope to contend with WoW (and FF14 now) for the top spot would have to be UO.

Had some bad DF attempts at beating Brayflox's Longstop yesterday. The first group I joined couldn't beat the boss where the Goblin enters the fight halfway through because the tank kept dieing.
The second party I joined we were at the last boss, missing a DPS. We literally waited half an hour and no DPS joined. SE should really make that "join dungeons in progress" checkbox more obvious.
The last group I ended up with was missing a tank.

Wasted a good hour and a half before I went back to leveling my Carpenter...
Hopefully I can beat BL tomorrow. Maybe I can get some GAFfers to tag along and get it over with.
In the boss where the goblin enters the fight halfway through, you can sleep the main boss while you deal with the monster chasing the goblin. It helps a lot.

But ouch about the other stuff. Just really bad luck I guess.

Praetorium. You're welcome.

Is there a way to tell beforehand which leves offer the triple turn in for crafting, or the 25% eval bonus for gathering? I can't find a leve list anywhere so I'm accepting leves randomly until I find the one with the exp boosts.

Got gold on Behemoth but my inventory was full.

._.

Boo, that sucks. :(

I guess I missed another pop thanks to school! I missed Odin yesterday/whenever, too, because I was studying.

Guess it's time to go with my back up plan to quit school and become a trophy wife so I can play games all day.

What's sad is that I got this in the Legacy version specifically because they told me it would be unattainable after the release of ARR, but I can't seem to figure out how to use it. It's not under my mounts and I don't have any type of item to get it back. :( Part of me wants to call support, but the other part of me knows I'd rather ride a Chocobo anyway.
Have you visited the Calamity Salvager? He should be holding some items for you, and the goobbue whistle should be one of them. Once you use the item you should be able to summon the mount.

I've been running FFXI-style EXP parties for my THM and CNJ and it has been super fun and at times much more efficient than waiting on FATEs to spawn and running around the map going to them. With the right party you're going to be pumping 200-300exp per mob and these things are constantly spawning and dying. So you're going to be getting around 1200-1500exp per minute on average which I prefer to spending time running between fates or waiting for them to spawn. Chain 20s and higher are fun to see.

I want to keep trying this to do more research on some of the good camp areas. Pretty much any time you see a camp of goblins, it's gonna be good exp...but there are a few other places where I've noticed that it's worth it to hang around instead of relying on FATEs. The only drawback is that you don't get GC seals but if you don't need them that much then it's not that big of an issue. And most if not all of these prime spots still have FATEs that spawn on or nearby them that help break up the monotony.

You'll want to find a group of at least 4 people (for the party stats bonus), at least one of which having decent AOE. If you're planning on going for a long time you'll want to make sure you have everyone within a 1-2 level range so you can transition areas without anyone being too out of place. The mobs you want will typically be 5-6 levels higher than the top level member of your party. You'll want to avoid stuff with sleeps and paralyzes that might incapacitate your healer.

You can probably start this around level 10 and since Aleport seems to be the most popular place to start grouping up, I've been starting there.

This is just my preliminary findings, obviously there are going to be alternative places to do this at various levels but I've only managed toget groups together that want to try it so many times. Maybe if it catches on more people will experiment and find the absolute best places for each level range.

lv10-15 - Goblin camp near Aleport. You'll have the big goblin boss FATE that spawns in this camp and is definitely worth sticking around for. You can do this all the way through 18 without seeing a huge drop off. There's the other Goblin FATE that involves turning in items to the NPC and if you can convince people to not turn stuff in, it can become a mini-Dark Devices with hundreds and hundreds of fast-spawning Goblins to kill.

lv15-20ish - Move into Upper La Noscea and fight the crabs there. There's the Giant Enemy Crab FATE here as well to supplement the mob grinding. There's a Kobold FATE and a Coeurl FATE in the nearby camp that are worth running over to. Once the EXP on the crabs slows down (they're level 21) you can jump across to where Simurgh spawns and fight Coeurls there if you want. But instead of that, I prefer transitioning to The Hawthorne Hut around lv18.

lv18-2(?) - Not entirely sure yet where the drop off starts for this, but once the crabs EXP starts to sizzle, head into The Bramble Patch near Hawthorne Hut and fight the Treants and surrounding mobs. Despite their size they still die pretty damn fast. There's probably a decent alternative to these somewhere in the area, but this is what I tried. The Bramble Patch has good FATEs nearby and you'll definitely want to run over to Lazy Lawrence whenever he's up.

lv20-27 This is where Quarrymill shines. Can do the deers or whatever on the west side of the camp up to 22 or so (they're 25) then you'll want to fight the Elezen-type enemies (lv27) that are found around there and north of the Quarrymill camp where that big ass lv32 Hive FATE is, since that one gives you around 15k exp on Gold and it spawns a SHITLOAD of mobs that your party will be killing constantly by getting all the claims. I went through 26 on my THM with this and haven't had a chance yet to see where to transition to get into 30, but the zone is massive and has such a wide range of mobs that there should be something close by.

I basically ran this in one night without ever sitting around waiting on FATEs to spawn, just taking advantage of them when nearby. I want to spend a lot more time on alternative classes trying out more camps, but right now I really prefer this to FATE grinding which is mind-numbingly boring on secondary classes, and not worth it a lot of the times in larger zones. The biggest hurdle to getting more experience with this style of partying is that a lot of people are unwilling to give up the FATE grind and experiment more...so if any FC members want to join up and give it a shot, I'm eager to find out more.

If you are an FFXI loyalist nostalgic for the old-school hours-long grind parties then I'd recommend giving this a shot. Who knows if it is consistently that much more efficient than FATE grinding but I've found it to be more social and fun than the average FATE party where people just constantly rotate in and out without saying anything.

After 30 I'm not sure yet if this is worth pursuing since Costa FATEs are just so damn good. I'm gonna give it a shot when I get there. I'll be doing this again soon with my ACN and will try out some alternatives to maximize efficiency.

Well, I can already tell you that I'd rather do that than FATE grind, so if you're ever doing it and I have something around that level, let me know, Pai Pai.

Get Goldsmith to 15 for Manipulation or Learherworker to lv 50 for Wate Not II, since you have limited time use your Levemetes for the 3-turn in 200% EXP bonus for HQ items. This will level up up fast but you probably won't spirit bond anything 100%

Try to sign on each day just to sell your stuff, takes less than 10 mins, then collect the Gil the next day.

Cool, thanks for the tips! Was working on Alchemist to 15 for Tricks of the Trade, but looks like I also need to bump Goldsmith
these little things become so consuming for me ;_;

Quoting myself for any other takers:

Hello fellos! I see many posts about making bank crafting and, as an aspiring artisan myself, would appreciate some advice :)

I am currently leveling (~lvl 15) botanist, leatherworker, and carpenter, in addition to my "mains" archer and conjurer (~lvl 20). I basically only get to play 1 night a week, so as you can imagine this is rather... slow going lol. Is there anything I can focus down within these crafts that can help me build up a little nest egg? Or am I SOL because I'm not miner?

I ask because I'm keen on having enough cash for a large house right when 2.1 drops. It's a bit of a personal mission to get my tiny FC into the same instance as GAF on Ultros ^_^ so we've got to be able to move fast.

Any guidance would be appreciated. I get so little time to play and things take so long in this game: I'd like to make efficient use of my time.

I'm still really wondering if miner is basically necessary for moneymaking here, especially vs botanist.

Quarrymill also has the Goblin Camp for good mob farming. Although, be prepared for the Fate party zerg when that Robbin' Goblins Fate comes up.

I'm trying to grind out these last four levels for LNC in Costa Del Sol but the timers are not all that great and there's nothing there to farm really in between Fate downtimes.

I swear, this Blood for Blood skill better be worth it.

Basically:

Pull mob and use Flash (if multiple mobs), while in GCD wait use Circle of Scorn and Spirits Wihthin, (a good BLM/WHM will know to wait until you used your AoE). Start you basic combo: Fast Blade > Savage > Rage, depend on the party dps output you will need to use it on the main target or start spreading your combos to multiple enemies: for example Fast Blade to (1) then Savage to (2) and Rage again to (1).

Either way after the combo use flash again. Sometimes is just a matter to see how your party pulls hate. Maybe you'll need to use Flash again before finishing the combo sometimes you can just keep changing your targets and Circle of Scorn to keep hate.

Another things:

- When pulling multiple mobs and your party won't sleep them use Awarness + Rampart at the start of the pull, will help you reducing the hate of healers and the damage received. If that's not enough use Ballwark and other mitigation skills. Basically Sentinel should be used on hard situations(like pulling multiple hard hitting mobs) while rampart can be used with more frequency.

- Flight or fight should be used always when up, dmg boost also means more hate.

- Flash has reduced usefulness the more time you use it and the more time into battle.

- Provoke will put you in the top of the enmity list, but if you don't follow it to another attack you will lose hate very fast. Ideally you want at least use it with Savage or Rage, even Spirits Within, if you follow up with Fast Blade won't be enough

- Use Riot Blade combo in the situations you need to spam flash, for example when you are an OT and need to take care of lot's of adds.

- Shield Bash is your best friend. Plenty of attacks can be stunned and the fact it's on the GCD is a huge advantage but sometimes can be a curse too. Spirits Within has a silenced effect, but it takes a while for the animation to finish, so is not as fast as BRD silence.
Quick question: Is Shield Swipe an interrupt like Shield Bash? It says "pacification" but I don't know what they mean by that.

This is great Pai Pai! I am indeed nostalgic for FFXI-style XP parties, so would love to investigate more info about this. Maybe we can create like a location guide eventually...

Some miner mats, like iron ore and bomb ash, have pretty consistent demand due to the sheer amount that is needed. I didn't go beyond 30 so far because the NQ mythril, cobalt and darksteel ores don't command enough of a premium over the lower-level stuff. I'd rather just farm more iron and sell it to fund buying the other ores.

This is a good piece of info, thank you. Maybe I will try raising miner just a bit, without feeling overwhelmed at having to cap it.

It will interrupt non-magic moves (weaponskills from the ability description), correct.

Moves like a Dullahan's swing or a drake's fire breath are weaponskills, whereas Water/Thunder moves from elements/mages are magic, which won't be affected by Pacification.

Cool, thanks. So using it as often as possible would also mitigate some of the damage I'm taking due to the interrupt, and I can use Shield Bash to interrupt if I'm not sure what's coming.

It seems like a really good skill where I am (~35). Does tons of damage for a PLD, kicks in fairly often when using a shield with a high block rate, and the damage translates into aggro as well. Why don't people mention it more often at max level?

The triple turn ins all have the same picture on the card, its like an old woman up front with a younger woman in the background.

In the same boat as you lol...did a couple of DF CM runs last night and one of them was pretty bad, the lag we've recently had since the last maintenance isn't helping too much either. Not sure if it's just me or everyone else but it's looking like other people are having the same problem.

Hopefully I can find a GAF group who wants to run CM for awhile to get geared up. At this point I'm willing to stay up for a long time to do runs I need since finding a steady group to run seems extremely rare.

It's a great skill that not a lot of tanks use, which is a damn shame. In addition to what you mentioned, it also doesn't interrupt your fast blade > savage blade > Halone combo, or cost very much TP to use, whereas Shield bash interrupts the combo and costs 150 TP. The only downside is that it has a small window to activate until you make another shield block.

I don't hate FATE grinding (the down time is great for when I am studying), but I would love an alternative. Some areas are just awful FATE wise (Quarrymill and Coerthas are the worst imo) and having another option (even if it is still just grinding) would be nice. Wonder if I could find a group on my sch so I don't have to do Coerthas FATEs...

Gathering items is fast indeed, but the actual leveling is painfully slow :(

As I said above I just got miner to level 50. I feel like I need to start leveling botany now. I feel like I have to, to level a craft with any kind of efficiency and not just be shelling out gil. This is from just taking a look at recipes for items. My only high craft is blacksmith at 37 or 38.
