Man, trying to do Coils Turn 4 with a Warrior tank is brutal. We have a PLD tank for the Dreadnaughts which is mostly fine, but the Warrior tank during the final phase gets fucking wrecked by the Soldier/Knight/Bugs... Like our healers (I'm WHM) have a really hard time keeping both tanks up, but our Warrior is taking a ton more damage than our PLD. :(

Man, the elitism in this game is insane. It's really ruining it, I know new players that have or are about to quit because them. Once my sub runs out I doubt I'll continue if this keeps up.

I blame the game more then the players. I was excited to do some groups when I hit 50. Now that I have killed Ifrit dozens and dozens of times I find myself starting to get impatient. I don't say anything out loud, but in my head I have nothing nice to say to the people that are constantly getting hit by the repetitive patterns that the fight consists of. The bad attitudes start to come out when the game becomes nothing but an unrewarding grind with long queue times and bad groups.

tell him to run around

So I got an email from SE last week saying there is a scheduled payment form subscription to occur on 10/6/13 (today), but it hasn't charged my cc yet. Is there anything I have to do to make it work? The cc info has been setup since early access.

Wouldn't the melee have a hard time killing the adds with him moving around? Or keeping threat on them? I suppose the ranged could kill the adds while the melee killed the 2nd dreadnaught.

Yeah, on the last set of adds you want the warr to kite / do whateverthehellittakes to survive while the DPS kill the second dread.

Ah okay. We were going to try to kill the Rook/Soldier/Knight before the 2nd Dreadnaught because of the fact that our Warrior was just taking more damage from those adds than our PLD with 2 Dreadnaughts on him. But I'll suggest this strategy when we try again later today. Thanks. :)

Oh, no no no no. You want to kill the Rook/Soldier/Knight before the second dreadnaught. I'm talking about the Soldier/Knight/Spiders that'll spawn near the second dreadnaught's death.

I have been stuck on Titan HM for the past fucking week. I can hardly get a group that can survive through the heart phase, and when I do, everyone starts dying to the plumes during phase 5.

What do I need to do in order to get a group that can actually win? TT_TT

I need to finally start doing Ifrit HM for a chance at the WHM staff, but I'm kinda scared to fuck it up when there.
I gave a look at a video of the fight and saw some of the differences with normal Ifrit, but a couple things confuse me, like when almost all the room is filled with that exploding stuff, how do you dodge that? Also when Ifrit ports and splits to the sideline, how do you know which one will start first?

Oh you're crotin?
And it wasn't a full gaf, I think it was u me scythia mahou, the rest are df or random can't remember

Yup I'm Crotin, sure felt like an all GAF run but I think you're right. I think we only covered the DPS part and let the tanks handle the stuns, etc.

Cause it's Sunday, maybe it won't go through until tomorrow?

U stack behind iffy, but only after the eruption goes off or is stunned first

They charge clockwise iirc

Once you start doing end-game stuff you'll see. If you join a duty finder party in AF gear doing the harder stuff you'll most likely hear about it and not in a good way. My friend wanted to try hardmode Garuda and because he had AF on they told him "no way we're gonna party with you".

As someone who had a couple DPS in AF for Garuda last night (and wiped 8 times in a row) I don't blame that person. Simply put, doing Garuda in AF and whites is you being a fucking waste of space in the party. It's not elitist, it's me not wanting to waste my time on lazy players anymore.

Hey guys, so I'm former 1.0 player who has been out of the country long since 1.0 ended and haven't paid attention to or read anything thats happening.

So I checked my email that is registered to my account and I went back a few months and it showed that I had suspicious behavior related to my account and it had been locked. I am trying to get it unlocked at the moment but I cant remember my security question or answer so I am waiting on SE support.

My question is, should I be worried?

I doubt your wipes on Garuda were the DPS's (equipment's) fault, though, unless the plumes weren't dying and the pillars were being damaged too much or something. Garuda isn't really a DPS race or anything. As long as everybody is moving where they need to move, you can eventually win even if your DPS isn't that great.

This isn't much compared to folks posting their relics and such, but I just got someone to make me a Vanya Robe of Casting and I got Garuda's book on a HM run. Feels good man.

They were struggling on killing the adds and dying a bunch during the big AoE spins. I'm pretty sure shit gear was a good part of the reason for it.

I'm just salty I wasted like 2 hours in that same party, should have left at full AF BRD telling me to use TP song lol

Yeah but everything is just so much easier if you have more HP and DPS. Phases go by more quickly and smoothly, healers are less prone to panicking when life bars aren't dropping so fast, better healer gear = more efficient use of mana = bards can keep their dps up and not stop moving to cast Ballad, etc.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but when you're dealing with a disorganized pug, better gear really does make a difference, even for fights like Garuda that aren't a dps-race.

Wanted to pick this game up today. Just wondering, is everyone still playing on Ultros and who should I ask for an invite to the linkshell?

Also I was planning on playing a lancer, are they fairly strong or terrible?

All I'm saying is that AF is okay for Garuda. I did the fight in mostly AF (healer) originally, have done it successfully several times with tanks and DPS who had mostly AF as well. Last night our tank was mostly in AF and we did that pretty successfully, as I'm sure people who were in my group can attest to. What's actually important is your ability to coordinate and move where you're supposed to, etc. Yes, you can overpower the fight and make mistakes matter less, but if the community in this game is going to require every fight to be overpowered then it's going down a bad road. And emphasizing gear over skill and awareness is just going to make the problem worse as people don't actually learn the fights.

This may come off as a silly question but does the NeoGAF free company welcome casual players? XIV is my first MMO, but I'm already a level 50 White Mage looking for a free company to join and I was hoping I could join you guys if there is any room left. I'm a very active player as well so inactivity shouldn't be a problem at all.

Sounds like you got people with bad gear but still had brains. We're not all that lucky =|

No, they aren't even accepting people that have less then full darklight and their relic +1 anymore.

Oh sorry, I meant to say before we kill the second Dreadnaught. We kill the Rook/Soldier/Knight before the final dreadnaught spawns. But when the final dreadnaught spawns with the Rook/Knight/Soldier/Bugs, we are supposed to kite those right?

Or is there another set of enemies that spawns after the final dreadnaught spawns that I didn't know about? xD

Bro, use the gathering leves. You get some pretty large amounts of EXP for them.

I only do actual gathering (as in, spam a particular item for a certain amount of time) when I want to make money. For leveling, it's always leves.

You can't just spam gathering leves to 50, can you? Seems you run out of cards fast. I just did 3 and got half a level, at 36.

There are plenty of people in the FC who aren't banging their head against the end-game!

i just gave garuda hm a try yesterday. not that hard imo. only had a few familiar people with me, most were random people from server. we farmed her 12x or so and i got my axe on the 3rd kill. my buddy got his monk weapon on 4th. no wipes, only a close one.

It is the endless gear requirement debate in mmos. While it is entirely possible for people with lower and non optimal gear to clear content, as Aeana makes the argument for, you will not know the skill of the player until you are neck deep in an encounter and already having time wasted if not. This is of course true for geared people as well, but that gear provides more of a buffer, as well as letting the people around them know on glance that they have put the same time and effort into making their character better as the onlooker has. While it doesn't guarantee that the person is of higher skill, it seems to have a higher chance of that possibility. This game however doesn't offer much in the way of choice that you can notice if someone picked their gear or skill set up poorly, showing a bad understand of their class, so the look test may not go as far.

Wasn't Yoshi-P regularly bragging in interviews about the huge amount of end-game content this game would have? Oh lord.

Coming from someone who picked this game as their first MMO, what other MMOs on the market currently have better endgames and why?

Could someone give me a list of activities one can in the end-game? Is it dungeons/raids only or is there something elese to do besides that?

Except when the adds (Suparna and Chirada) are not dying fast enough so they use Mistral Scream, or the green add is up too long making Garuda heal back up and sending the party into an endless loop of add spawns.

I'd say it's definitely a DPS race. maybe not as pronounced as Titan but nevertheless it is one.

While that is a possibility, as long as everyone is attacking the right enemies, it usually doesn't happen.

Kind of surprised I had to go through a queue to log in to Ultros, thought for sure subscription day would have ended queues at least for a little bit.

Aww yiss. Just renewed my sub. I'm determined to beat Stone Vigil today!
Beat it twice today with my brother and DF tank/healer. Very fun dungeon if everyone knows their job.
Reached Lv 44 DRG through some FATE grinding. Garuda's up next but I might grind a little more so I'm not the bare minimum level.

I'm still really enjoying the game. One thing that annoys me though like... cool things like the Crystal Tower making it only appeal to raiding groups, that sucks. That sucks HARD.

The crystal tower was always intended to be for 24 people. The reason they delayed it is to reduce the difficulty to the point that it could be completed with a group you get through the duty finder.

If anything, they want more people to be able to enjoy the content and are adjusting it accordingly.

I can't wait for 2.1.. hopefully it's coming sooner than December..

Coming from someone who picked this game as their first MMO, what other MMOs on the market currently have better endgames and why?

In terms of a starting game (which I will classify 2.0 of this game), the content we have is par for the course. There isn't necesarilly "better" end game content anywhere just more of it. For example, SWTOR is my main MMO at the moment and there are 4 end game instances that people are working through (dependent on gear level). 1 instance with 4 boss encounters, 1 instance with 7 encounters, and 2 instances with 5 encounters each. 2 of those instances have 3 difficulty levels and 2 have 2 levels. The advantage here is that SWTOR is an older game and is deep into its current version build (2.4 just dropped) so it will, of course, have more to do. Give FFXIV a year to year and a half and you could say the same thing there was well.

Theres a pattern for plumes, the last one there is a safe spot just where Ifrit stands, so you have to run thene.

About the splitted Ifrit, they always start clockwise

Yeah. The rook/soldier/knight spawn you need to kill. Then kill the second dread while the OT tanks/kites the soldier/knight/spiders. Once the second dread is dead kill the knight/soldier, bring the spiders to the last dread and burn.
